  2. DCS: AH-64D | Fire Control Radar Introduction COMING SOON NOTE. As always, these videos provide a preview of an upcoming feature to assist you in understanding a new feature. Later, it is quite possible that the feature will change, and the feature functionality has changed. As much as I’d like to, I lack the time re-record these videos. This is the first of several planned FCR video and is intended as a simple overview. In this DCS: AH-64D video, I’m going to introduce you to the Fire Control Radar, or FCR, of the Delta. The AN/APG-78 FCR was designed to enhance the target acquisition and engagement process of the AH-64D when faced with large numbers of enemy armor units moving across the battlefield. More than just a sensor for detecting and engaging targets, the FCR is a target classification and prioritization system that automates and accelerates the process of acquiring targets and determining which of those targets should be engaged to have the maximum effect on the battlefield with the limited number of munitions on board the aircraft. The FCR turns the Delta in a true force multiplier. It was developed in the 1980s for the Delta as the Airborne Adverse Weather Weapon System, or AAWWS, which was part of the Multi-Stage Improvement Program, or MSIP, to enhance the AH-64A. The AN/APG-78 is a millimeter-wave FCR target acquisition system that also includes a Radar Frequency Interferometer, or RFI. The FCR is housed in a dome located above the main rotor mast. The APG-78 is capable of simultaneously tracking up to 128 targets and engaging up to 16 at once, and an attack can be initiated within 30 seconds. The datalink allows FCR data to be shared with other Deltas and allows them to coordinate attacks using fire zones. It’s important to understand that performing a radar scan with the FCR can be thought of as taking a “photograph” of the battlefield. When multiple FCR scans are performed in succession, this is called a “scanburst”, which is like taking several photographs of the battlefield in rapid succession. It is during these photographs that the FCR is determining where the targets are, what targets are moving or stationary, and classifying each target within several target types, such as Tracked vehicles like tanks, Wheeled vehicles like trucks, Air Defense vehicles like a ZSU-23-4, or even fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. There are two types of scanbursts: a single scanburst and a continuous scanburst. A single scanburst takes several photographs of the battlefield and displays the state of the battlefield on the cockpit displays as a fixed, momentary snapshot in time. A continuous scanburst takes photograph after photograph of the battlefield and continues to update the state of the battlefield on the cockpit displays. Each time a new scanburst is initiated, all FCR data is deleted like throwing away the existing “photographs” and a new series of photographs are taken. This is very different than the air-to-ground radar modes that you may be familiar with like in the F-16 and F/A-18. When a scanburst is performed, the FCR page will only display the 16 targets that have been determined to be the highest priority. It will never display more than 16 target symbols because the AH-64D can only carry a maximum of 16 Hellfires. These 16 targets on the FCR page can be thought of as a “shoot list”, with a diamond placed around the highest priority, “Next-To-Shoot”, or NTS, target, and an inverted triangle placed around the second highest priority, “Alternate Next-To-Shoot”, target. The TSD can display more than 16 targets when set to the attack phase, but all low-priority target symbols will be displayed at half the size as the 16 high-priority target symbols. The C-SCOPE and ZOOM functions on the FCR page are not currently implemented, nor is the LINK function on the Sight-Select switch. These will come later in early access, along with other radar modes. That’s it for this introduction to the FCR. In the next video, we’ll explore deeper into setting up FCR pages and controls. Thanks for watching.

  4. If they are modeling the current ch-47 it is actually more in depth and more complex than the Apache. The chinook has multiple systems, backups, and more complex flight characteristics as a tandem rotor aircraft than the Apache. Yes….the Apache has weapon systems to access…..but the 47 flight model is much more difficult to replicate. Even the military flight sims don’t model the real aircraft perfectly. Been a 47 guy for over 20 years and still going. Hoping for a release date soon….but not holding my breath.

  5. we are continually working on improvements and enhancements every spare minute I get. like today I created another destruction model for one of the buildings. I was curious about this as I feel that this could be an option I was thinking of putting the work in and offering this as a mod until ED have some way to deliver 2 texture sets if they ever do this then you would have the option. See how the poll goes thanks for filling it in

  8. Hey, thanks so much for the feedback/review and the amazing screenshots! Do you mind if I share some of them on instagram? Fear the Bones completes the Tomcat trilogy but it’s a very different kind of campaign. I’m planning something for the Phantom that will fit in with these two really well though.

  9. Parts of Syria is still the best looking places to be in DCS. As someone who flies low and make lots of ground attack youtube videos. Low quality ground textures is not great. Neither is the look on some of those fjords. I don't think Syria or Normandy look "synthetic " so not even sure what that is about.

  17. You think that is bad? I have both OB and Stable. If I Install the 52 in either, It does not show at all! I must have a haunted PC! The same thing happens with Eightball's trains. No trains ever show in the ME. I looked at the DCS logs after deleting them, then running the 52. NOTHING IN SIM! SIGH..... A look at the logs shows nothing out of the ordinary, other than the ED, Poly and a few other errors. No CH errors. I am baffled. Bewildered! Confused even! @currenthill want to look at my logs? I will start fresh so no other mods are installed. Do a DCS repair to be sure. Using the remove extra files option. I really want this Baby in my missions! Thanks for all you do. We are not worthy!

  18. Rgr, wilco Keith ... Depicting a Junkers Ju 88A4 of Stab. II./KG 77, 3Z+AC, Pilot Heinrich Paepcke, Sicily, October 1942 You will need WW2 Assets Pack. Place the two skin folders in X:\Users\XXX\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Liveries\Ju-88A4. You probably don't have a Ju-88A4 folder. Just create one and name it just as shown here. Many thanks to Warlord64 for his excellent template. Link: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3313581/ Based on a model by Hoss WA. Link: https://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/2/p/191445/2206341.aspx II.KG77 took part in the Siege of Malta. Hauptmann Heinrich Paepcke commanded II.Gruppe during this period up to his loss with his crew on 17th October 1942 over Malta, during one of the most intense aerial battles in history. Over this period KG77 perfected close ground support and anti-shipping tactics, and developed shape disrupting camouflage as seen on this aircraft. The blue upper surface blotches (on sand + RLM70&71 splinter) are to disrupt the shape of the aircraft against coastline etc to make them harder targets for AAA and enemy fighters at low altitude. KG77 also supported the AfrikaKorps including the Second Battle of El Alamein, and resisted the Allied invasion of Sicily, probably destroying the U.S. Liberty ship SS Robert Rowan on 11 July. 19. I have never given it a real thought. I am more of a jet “pilot” than a heli “pilot”, however I prefer low altitude, up close and personal kind of approach. Kind of a mixed bag from users. Some say textures are the deterrent, some for performance, some for lack of assets and aircraft for the simulated time period/ location. I bought SA and I love SA for the terrain type. I have no performance issues per-se. Drops close to cities, yes, but not really worse than any other map. Not “un-playable” by any stretch of the word. I'm not a VR guy though so I have no reference in that aspect. I am also not a mission maker, so lacking some content, even basic free-flight missions is kind of a bummer… not a deal breaker though I suppose I would prefer things up close to look as good as they could. I can’t honestly say I’ve ever had a gripe about synthetic textures on other maps, nor do I know anything about how they are made. I would rather terrain look good overall rather than worrying about snow caps being scale replicas. If synthesized texture could bring about improved performance for those affected, then thats just all the better. At 20k+/- feet I’m not looking at the terrain on any map anyway. I’m busy programming the jet and heads down finding targets. Planning attack and keeping track of my Situational Awareness. Down low is where I like to “sightsee”. The terrain, especially flying through the fjords in Chile is amazing. Such a nice escape from the sand and desert routine. I could care less about period specific content or recreations of real life wars in the area and whether or not DCS has the appropriate assets. We have what we have and I think it’s a silly idea to avoid a map, in a video game, because if things like that.. To each their own of course. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and reasons I really hope the map succeeds for the long haul, It really is ambitious and pleasantly different than any others we have!

  22. This may certainly be the case, but TBH - I've wondered about winwing (I haven't purchased anything from them... yet) - but the customer service correspondence gives me the chills. Most people have no issues with their purchased product, therefore only experience a portion of the whole companies experiences. Then there's the odd product that will come through where mistakes have been made. (Leads not connected, poor packaging, damage, etc). I can understand mistakes, I make a few of them myself, and provided they're easilly sorted, I'm OK with them. I also have no problems if instructed opening up the item (shouldn't have to... no - but I get that if it's not difficult and it's far easier than dealing with postage back and forth, etc - it's a viable options). I understand that even with some good quality products the odd lemon can get through QC and get out there. But one thing that really scares me is the run-around customer support, where it's like talking to a wall, and not getting questions answered, or where you feel like they're deliberately trying to hinder the conversation so you'll give up and will go away. Another thing I'm not entirely convinced about is the $10 value on the return, which sounds dodgy, and not something I'd expect from a more reputable company. When I ship expensive goods, I like to insure them, and it's a bit hard to do so when undervaluing the product. I would have thought that if an item was marked as 'returning defective item', or 'replacement item' that custom charges aren't a thing as it's a back and forth issue in that case. Is this not so? Even though I don't have winwing products, I'm grateful a company exists that is willing to make these peripherals. I just hope that they're able to grow and learn quickly from their mistakes, and cull out poor customer service staff and replace with people who can offer better service that will reflect better on their public image, and give their customers a better experience.

  23. Friend @BIGNEWY, you are right in stating that community testing is very useful, hence the Beta version, to improve a product, but also keep in mind that a product that does not even provide the minimum quality for testing will never be tested by this just as your efforts and dedication deserve, especially having competing software like SRS that does not present problems. Let it be known that I prefer a thousand times more the immersion and realism that Voice Chat provides (noises, signal fading, etc.) but unfortunately I have fought a lot in my flight group to have it tested and people are already tired of so many problems of connection and disconnection, hearing and not hearing and many others that I currently do not remember. Please try to make an effort and focus a little more on the real problems and not on the minutiae as the community does for you. Thanks you.

  24. Chances are I'm going to recommend exactly one of the campaigns that annoyed you... There's "Operation Piercing Fury" which was a good campaign IMO, but the author abandoned it and it's now defunct. However, some really awesome community members keep it alive and it's now available in the user files for the A-10C II (with permission of the original campaign creator, as far as I'm aware). Then there's The Enemy Within 3.0 by Baltic Dragon, which (when it was 1.0) was the very first official 3rd party campaign in DCS. Besides major updates (2.0, 3.0) Baltic Dragon also fixes issues as they are reported and goes through entire campaigns to update them when things change in DCS. TEW 3.0 was recently updated because of radio changes in DCS, and all mission were test-flown. The latest version is available in 2.9.1 Stable and OpenBeta. On the other hand, TEW isn't that much action oriented. There will be action, but for the most part the campaign is story-driven, so it may or may not be what you're looking for. And if you like to get to know the A-10C II deeper than ever before, I've heard great things about the Maple Flag training campaigns and I can totally recommend Iron Flag Part I; all rounds fired will be on the training range, and missions can be quite long (around 1.5 hours). But there's tons of great info on the A-10C and outside of the multiplayer environment you'll be hard pressed to find a more realistic environment to fly in. Other than that, most A-10 campaigns I haven't flown and can't comment on. I'm sure I'm doing many of them injustice here by not mentioning them, but hopefully other forum members will chime in with some great suggestions and recommendations. And finally, besides the abandoned campaigns (only Piercing Fury as far as I'm aware right now), the campaign authors are usually actively monitoring the forums for bug reports and will work very hard to fix issues when they are reported. With the large number of missions and campaigns, even with a solid team of testers, they (in some cases we, as I'm a campaign tester) just can't test all the campaigns all the time to check if the latest DCS update changed or broke something that's essential to the campaign. Bug reports are always appreciated so that missions can be fixed for all players!

  25. Hi unfortunately, Eagle no longer responds and therefore, no longer follows its campaigns. I'll try to help you (but no guarantee, I don't have the WW2 modules). First you need to use the latest scriptsmod (I'm preparing the release) 20.67.405 (download it here) - then replace base_mission with this one (the original one is too old, even for DCS) - then, in Init/path.bat : replace the scriptsmod version with NG, like this: set "versionPackageICM=NG" - launch DCE_Manager (download it from my signature, if you don't have it), "campaign" tab (this automatically modifies the rest of the path) - run FirstMission.bat once (it updates conf_mod) - if there is no mission generation, stop the DOS window and open the conf_mod file, onlyDayMission = true, selectLoadout = "init", - restart FirstMission.bat There you go, there may still be some "mini" radio frequency bug info, notably from the FW1090 (I'll have to look into that), but it should work. I know, it doesn't look easy, but if you tell me it works, I'll make eyes at Cef and get him to upload the updated Eagle campaigns. scriptsMod_405.zip base_mission.miz

And a reminder that the experience noted in this thread is, I'm sorry to say and don't want to offend anyone, not reflective of the full population of WinWing customers. All that said, I feel for you and hope you end up with a good/satisfying solution with your gear.

  27. I think the real issue here is performance. If you have hit a performance brick wall using satellite imagery, then it would be better to go with the same technology that other maps are using. I have no problem suspending my disbelief on the Syria map, even if it is synthetic. I realize this is probably a huge undertaking, but unless something drastic is done, I'm afraid the South Atlantic map is in danger of being the forgotten step child of DCS.

  28. I would be happy to pay for the Dynamic Campaign system as a module. As long as it does it better than Liberation or Retribution. Don’t get me wrong I like those two, I play them a lot. But they are constrained to having someone pre-make the actual missions. What happens after you hit go, is more dynamic, but what I’d really hope to see is the mission generation also be very dynamic (which I’d assume is the intended goal)… like a mix of Briefing Room and Liberation on steroids. Options for quick generated campaigns based on only a few sets of variables, to huge in-depth campaigns where you could have many options to tweak, if you choose. Then be automatically generated and possibly even procedural generation as the mission goes on (which I think the logistics side of it kind of covers). A part I would like to see too is having briefings and updates written as you go. Again taking a queue from Briefing Room.. You generate a mission thats never the same twice but it also generates a briefing/ story behind what you’re doing. To me, little touches like that add to the “immersion” , just like stories written behind paid campaigns. Hoping for a sense of purpose to go along with it as well. More than just “ Okay here’s a map with some arbitrary targets scattered about. Go bomb something you find and lets just see what happens next”.

  29. Satellite imagery looks great from higher altitudes, but breaks down (due to resolution) when yoou get closer to the ground. In fixed wings, I don't care too much, but in Helicopters I prefer the "handcrafted" design of Syria e.g. I don't really know how to combine the best of two world here, but since I spend a lot of time in low altitude, I prefer the handcrafted approach. (I hate the graphics of MSFS for that reason) Maybe there could be some "LoD" approach. Satellite imagery from far away and more "optimized by hand" textures for closer to the ground. Though I can imagine that it is hard to get the transition well done.

  30. Maybe some example screenshots would help, to give us an indication on the impact of the proposed poll options. (I also DM'd Specter about this) I expect for this poll there will be a big preference difference between fixed wing (mainly high altitude) and helo players.

  35. In what actual CAS scenario are you rippling 4 jdams on 4 targets in 4 miles in one go? JDAM TOO rippling is the number one AG thread on these forums typically and it is entirely a DCS contravention. It's cool you can do it in DCS, but knocking the real life control scheme for its ability to handle something almost no one was expected to actually do in a mission isn't logical. Here's a different scenario: In which aircraft do you think you could more easily perform a low level ingress to pop-up dive bombing attack on a pre-planned target without GPS, with weak coordinates and without a visual on the target until you were in the groove for release given a strong relative reference? Here's a link to a write-up on the Osirak nuclear plant attack in 1981 conducted by Vipers using what appears to be the VIP method with a CCIP terminal attack. Note that missing the VIP for one of the pilots threw off his run enough that he actually had to do a go-around: https://www.airandspaceforces.com/PDF/MagazineArchive/Documents/2012/April 2012/0412osirak.pdf Everything in the Viper is built on the base of being able to do a mission like that. The A10C was pretty much gutted interface-wise and done from the ground up to suit more modern missions. I think people like that the A10 makes the least amount of assumptions of what the aircraft is supposed to be doing, but at the same time that makes certain things more complicated than they need to be. If you're doing a pre-planned strike on a target, why bother the pilot with constantly telling the aircraft's nav computer whether it should be paying attention or not? The Viper simply assumes if you slew something, it's because you're trying to acquire the thing you're after unless you're explicitly using a TOO mode. Makes it a lot easier. I made a scenario wherein you need to bomb a non-descript building in a city in the Caucuses. The waypoint you're given is not on the target, simulating low coordinate resolution and drift, but a strong OA is given to a terrain feature and a VRP for a distinct shaped nearby building. If you do your slews right, you'll never see the target till a few seconds before release, and VID'ing it would be hard anyway, but with the TD box, combined with the two references make a precise CCIP delivery possible. All of this is done in less than a minute from run-in to delivery and LTL egress. You can do this sort of thing in the F15E, but the Hornet is so whacked out with bugs it can't do this and I'm not even sure how you'd begin to do something similar with the A10. The Viper's AG mission has historically been closer to a Viggen's than an A10's, and I think multiplayer server's reliance on TOO vehicle plinking is making that more plain to see.

  36. You had to actively deselect the FCR for each AH-64D in every mission, as the default is FCR selected. So I am sure you need to revert every AH-64D you edited by hand. Though realistically the ratio of FCR equipped AH-64D should be around 1 out of 4.

  37. I would agree with that, and I'm sure in reality there is chatter during long droning missions. There's probably a balance that could be struck. I can't remember which campaign it was I was playing but there was a whole conversation about the wingman's upcoming wedding and how hard it is to be a military spouse. As I'm fenced in to go take out a column of tanks pouring through a mountain pass. like, could we at least talk tactics or something? LOL

With the patient help of DerKlausi on the Varjo Discord I finally have XRNS working perfectly on my Varjo Aero in DCS MT.exe with XRNS and Varjo Foveated Rendering (pretty sure it will work with other APIs also). The final key (after an XRNS 5a remove/reinstall) was the order of the API layers, as the Varjo Foveated API finally showed up in XRNS's "OpenXR\Show API Layers" list after a fresh XRNS5a download and re-install. First try in the cockpit, with Varjo API showing on top line of the XRNS Show API list, I got black blocks and strange movement in the cockpit whenever Auto-rotation kicked in (but it was actually finally doing something!). As soon as I (using the "OpenXR-API-Layers-Win64-HKLM.exe" app) moved the XR_APILAYER_NOVENDOR_XRNeckSafer.json Layer to be above the XR_APILAYER_MBUCCHIA_varjo_foveated. json Layer, all was well in DCS.. So for me the key was to uninstall XRNS 5a, reinstall a freshly downloaded version of XRNeckSaferBeta5a from GitHub (https://gitlab.com/NobiWan/xrnecksafer), run XNRS and check the "OpenXR\Show active OpenXR API Layers" list in XNRS,. If XRNeckSafer is not on top of the list (which mine wasn't), use the API Layers GUI program ( https://github.com/fredemmott/OpenXR-API-Layers-GUI ) to change the order (I used the "OpenXR-API-Layers-Win64-HKLM" exe). Select the XRNeckSafer API, click Move up (to the top even if you have more than 2 API's showing), done! Never occurred to me not showing the Varjo Foveated API in XNRS could actually be an XRNS issue (to cause me to reinstall) as it worked fine in IL-2 (because Foveated rendering is disabled in IL-2)... and forget about the API Layer order, never would have gotten that without help.

  41. It was exactly his point. ....because the dedicated community uses OB and report the issues much more frequently than if they used Stable. DCS has ran better on OB than Stable due to module fixes and performance fixes for years. 2.9 issues are temporary.

  42. That may be true however that doesn't change the fact there is an A/G mode on the C

  43. According to Galinette, when I was discussing this with him iirc, when he was making the new M2K's radar model and testing against chaff just the Doppler gates alone worked 99% of the time, including going into the notch. And its pretty clear from the one example he was able to get of it not filtering out the chaff that even the simplistic countermeasures of radar coasting or RCS edge tracking would have prevented it grabbing onto the chaff momentarily.
