  1. Past three months were basically bug hunting, fixing my own screwups during the learning process, a lot of code purging, i had to rename all my textures to avoid conflict with existing ones, mount over 300 textures across all models, like custom weapons, main model and such. Also added a bunch of functionality to the cockpit, added new animations... also revision of over 18.000 lines of code, one by one... So yeah, i've been pretty busy, and nothing much exciting to show for now. People on the mod discord are more updated on the latest news. Here are a few Screenshots

  3. RWC that's great to hear. I assume you create missions with her. Maybe for the next ship, I will be more creative. The sky is the limit regarding ships in DCS with what we can do with them. I may add missiles to the next ship to make it more interesting and challenging. -- The Rebel ship falls under Iran but if you want to add more countries, add these line items inside the brackets @ line 87 { "Russia", "Yemen", "Syria", } . Whatever country you like. Thanks, RWC. Everyone check out the Royal Netherlands ships. This is what keeps me motivated watching things like this. I have two of these ships in my inventory. Enjoy.

  5. The Yak52 in my opinion shows EDs contempt for its customers, this plane could be polished and finished with a little effort from the skilled ED staff, yet it's a thorn in there side and show how much they care about past modules. I love DCS still buy most things, but the state of the Yak52 is now starting to wear on me. I'm not really buying anything else for a while to see if EDs attitude changes. 6. Updatelog: 2024-10-08, 00:10 UTC ================== Dear Viggen drivers! I have some important news for you: .) Training flight M190-23-0 / Startup procedure (including Taxi) is now released. .) All training flights have been changed to consider the new training flight as the third in the row. .) All .miz files of the training flights have been saved with current DCS version 2.9.8.1214. .) Kneeboards have been reworked, and also to include the airbrake in and out commands. The new lesson took a very long time to get finished. Not only were there many learning objectives to build up, but also took the lesson design a considerable amount of hours. The list of relevant theoretical knowledge for that lesson is a longer than for the other lessons, because many systems are "touched" in certain ways during startup. Don't fear too much, the list only contains the most important sections of the current RC2.1 manual I hope you find it interesting and it works for your without any issues. Happy landings startups & kind regards TOViper

  7. When I was testing the map after the update, I found the incorrect altitude of the helipad at the hotel in Nicosia. Lat Long Standard: N 35°10'01" E 33°21'41" Less annoying but still funny - bushes on stadium grass

  10. So, as DCS is a simulation game / entertainment product, and as we see the standard and quality bar raised by Heatblur modules, each time they release a new product, I wish we could see at least the same level of fidelity in the upcoming MiG-29A module as we got in HB's Phantom. As many of us here know, the APU that is used to crank the engines for staring is a gas turbine engine started by electric motor. In the Fulcrum, like in many other aircraft, batteries or an external electrical power can be used to provide electrical power during engine start. I wish the startup procedure included the graphical / functional usage of the new APA-5D GPU unit available in game, similar to how it is done in aforementioned Phantom module. 11. Starting to feel that way too. I’m also very fond of DCS and have a lot of modules but it is nice just to go back to basics and the Yak fills that requirement, it’s just that it flys like a supermarket shopping trolley that requires constant correction. I’m sure the real aircraft is not like that.

  13. Hello, let me start by saying I know Linux is not supported by DCS Ok, so a couple of months I installed DCS on my Arch linux system using the DCS guide to install the game on a Steam Deck (https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/SteamDeck/) and it worked really well. I was working on some maps and one day it stopped working (i cant remember what changes I did to my system). No splash screen, nothing, it just crashes. I have to check Steam to see that the game just stopped working. I tried to use the lutris installation but more of the same. I checked the integrity of the files, deleted the game and then reinstalled but nothing. Do any linux pilot can give me a hint about what could be the issue and how to fix it? How did you install it? Thanks

UPDATE: figured it out, I had to get much lower and then it automatically connected. you must be lower than when you're used to in the Huey nullnull

  23. Funny I just watched a track from an older version with heavy WWII action and the track played back fine. So please, unless you have something helpful to add, do not muddy up bug reports. Tracks have always been hit-and-miss, we need a better solution. The current Track system was always a debug tool more than a replay system. That said you can have a lot of success with them as well. Many tips are listed here. Some things I didn't see here are things like not jumping around to different views too soon or too often, try and view in the same version, although as I said above its possible, best practice is to view your track in the same version. New modules or additions, mods anything extra will impact a track and could throw it off.

  25. I understand annoyance. Such a practice is not unusual or strange though - dealer buys in bulk, so he gets much lower prices than individual client coming directly to producer and can keep them lower even after applying his margin. I saw it on daily basis when I worked in logistics dept of one of the biggest worldwide corporations offering equipment for fire safety, building automation and medical industry. We added a hefty "penalty" margins to any individual client invoices below certain value to "discourage" them from buying directly from us and push them to one of our dealers. Seemed a bit brutal and illogical at first to me, but made sense from order processing cost vs income point of view - when excel spreadsheets come into play, nobody gives a F about individual buyer feelings. Granted, that was orders of magnitude different scale of business compared to a flight sim hardware company in China, but I've noticed the same phenomenon years ago when I bought TrackIR - got it in one of popular US flight sim stores as it was much cheaper than in NaturalPoint store directly, and since cross-Atlantic shipment and custom costs were the same anyway, the choice was simple for me. In your case I guess it indeed comes down to dispatch time and whether it's worth premium. Can they really ship the base faster to you than to local dealers? We'll find out soon I guess. Keep us updated, please.

  32. Yes. Let's say 4GB, as I couldn't locate where the J-11 is, while it might only be a cockpit livery that doesn't really take up space, and comes with the Chinese Assets Pack, which already have installed in any case. And as you say, you have plenty of space for that. The Stennis is the same one as in the Super Carrier DLC, just without the extras, like comms, crew and stations. The old Kuznetsov has not been updated with better graphics. If you do get the SC down the line, (50% during sales I believe). That's the upgrade you will get. Just to completely clarify. All modules can be used on any map. So one can fly jets and helicopters on the WWII maps, and warbirds on modern maps. This also goes for every thing that is included in the asset packs. As for the NS430 GPS thingy, not sure if that can be used in the warbirds. Never tried. And of course, the 3D add ons needs their respective module, like for the Gazelle and Mi-8. Apart from this, the only DLCs that might require other modules are campaigns. And those requirements are listed on the store page, and are the modules the campaign needs, the map and maybe the WWII Asset Pack. If no map is listed, it will, (probably), use the Caucasus map. Only campaign that don't use a DLC map, is the Reflected "Paradise Lost" campaign, which uses the Marianas. It's excellent by the way!

  33. Press doubt all you want, or don’t believe me, but it is true and what every MiG-29 and Su-27 manual will say. Here’s some examples “For SNP (track while scan) this case, automatic strobing of the target (when there are several targets it chooses the most dangerous), and automatic engagement (locking) at distances close to the missile launch distances are provided, which favors the speed of execution and secrecy of the attack“ “ in TWS, According to the logic adopted in the targeting computer, the target with which the fighter has the shortest approach time is considered the most dangerous, and its mark on the HUD screen is automatically framed by a strobe and subsequently followed by it until the radar goes into acquisition mode. The computer calculates the zones of permitted launches of guided missiles for the conditions of attacking a the target. When approaching the current range mark and the maximum permitted launch range mark, the RLPK-293 complex automatically switches to the acquisition mode. Approaching the target in the TWS mode to the range of the missile engagement zone increases the stealth of the attack on the selected target.” 1. Design choices often don’t make “common sense,” and using it as a filter for what something might/should do can often lead to issues when context is lacking, especially with these complex military aviation birds. For example IRL, IRST/radar interaction is extremely limited in MiG-29 for seemingly no reason, yet works flawlessly and automatically in Su-27 As mentioned above, the idea was to allow the pilot to select the most dangerous contact, keep situational awareness of the surrounding area, and only lock right before weapon firing for minimal warning to the enemy 2. You say pilot couldn’t use TWS at close range with R-27, but this isn’t true. Not only is R-27 can have a range as low as 4-5 km in rear aspect at low altitude. But if you were in situation where it has 40-50 km range and was closer then that, what would happen is the radar would enter TWS, see the most dangerous contact after a search cycle, then lock it if within missile range. There is no need to change weapon, jettison, or turn off missiles. If they want to scan the area without locking, this is exactly why there is a switch to turn TWS off. The mode works fine at any range, and nothing stops you from turning it off if you don’t like it. The plane is not forcing you to use it And in DCS, there is no automatic target selection. So you can enter TWS at any range without automatic lock unless you physically place the TDC over the target or the target flies into it. 3. Yes, TWS does not work with jamming. I have no problem using it to lock an unjamming target. If they turn on their jammer the mode automatically returned to regular search/scan mode. Yes you might need to reselect target, but likely you will only need to do it once since the pilot should be aware that TWS won’t work with jamming So yes, with jamming you need to use normal search and are limited to one target in case of MiG-29S. This is a technical limitation, it’s not like they intentionally designed it that way Technology has limits, and the designers believed that TWS would be helpful to minimize the time the target’s RWR see’s a STT signal and increase SA. And that if it sees jamming it reverts to normal scan so you can still search normally, since TWS requires more processing power then it can handle while jamming. Player F-16/18 has lock breaking jammer, and there is good reason it was decided to equip those planes with it. Hopefully someday FC3 jammers can get the same treatment Is there still an issue?

  38. Currently all enemy Ground Units have Night Vision and can see you like Daytime. Is it maybe possible to give mission builders the Option wheater a coalition or a unit has NVG or not and make them work as soon as it gets darker their visibility decrease? Of course all Vehicles with sensors or radar should work but insurgents or vehicles without should not track me pin point accurate while flying at night. What would also be cool if player forgets to turn off his external lightning that the probability to get spotted is higher? I think with the Kiowa and the Apache Night Missions are more on Focus now and in the real environment most of insurgents didn´t had any kind of or only very limited NVG Capability. Thanks in Advance

  40. The point is that what's being developed (and what's currently in-game with FC3) is not a MiG-29A. It's a misnomer - the MiG-29A is a different, hypothetical concept aircraft that was never built. What we have in-game (and what's being developed) is simply a MiG-29 (be it a 9.12/12A/12B, though the 9.13 is also referred to as just MiG-29). It's like calling an apple an orange and it seems to be a problem DCS uniquely suffers from - like calling the HY-2 a Styx, Silkworm or an SS-N-2 (of which the HY-2 is neither), the Type VIIC U-boat a U-flak, when it absolutely isn't a U-flak or the Chieftain we have a Mk 3, when it isn't a Mk 3. The fix for all of these is a change to a couple of lines in a .lua file each - it should be trivial. Before the .lua lock of 2.7 I would've just done it myself.

  41. I'm not a 1k forum poster like some here. I just started posting about this issue a week ago as I play in VR and do not have a Pimax headset. The new "Improved" Spotting Dots has ruined the sim for me as I can't stand how they look. The broken OPTIONS > GAME PLAY ability to turn off these spotting dots is the biggest disappointment and the lack of acknowledgement the feature is broken by ED, especially the insulting post by @BIGNEWY that we should "read the patch notes again" signals to me that ED has no interest in listening to their customers and are one of those companies that sees them as complaining idiots. They have definitely lost sales from me as I already own most maps and most of the US aircraft and was planning on the Chinook, F-15E and Kola map. These are no longer planned purchases. I will invest my time and future in other currently available flight sims that don't have this issue and treat their customer base and developer community a bit better as I recently learned about the whole issue with RAZBAM. Throw in the entire "we have partnered with Pimax" and here is a discount code to buy one, you quickly realize the entire Spotting Dots issue and "get a Pimax and the spotting dots issue is fixed" is more than just a coincidence. Just a sad example of hubris and a developer that has lost the passion for its user base.

  42. Really is pretty disheartening that issues like this continue on without any proper attention given to fixing them. I’ve been flying the Dora at 3000 RPM for years now, and I don’t even bother with the 47 in its current state. The frustrating part is that so much has been done so well, but these longstanding issues persist so long without any effort or attention given to fixing them that even the small things end up putting many off what is otherwise a great product. I personally think the WWII stuff has the potential of being the crown jewel of the sim, if only it got more TLC.

  44. Hallelujah. Thanks for responding, eventually. If you read the thread you’ll notice the names ‘Manston’ and ‘Biggin Hill’ pop up a few times. These aren’t the only airfields you are looking for, as any Obi Wan Kenobe will tell you. There are problems with communications. We’d all appreciate some attention to this so stay engaged and we might get things fixed. For now it’s Broad Sword calling Danny Boy with no reply, over.

  46. Thank you, this is known to us. It is because, right now, the flight model remains being computed on the Pilots computer. That means, your WSO inouts are first send to the Pilot, then computed there and you then get the results send back to your machine as usual. In the future, we plan on dynamically transferring the flight model over to the machine that is currently controlling the jet But this is quite complex on a technical side :)

  47. No, the cockpit for the early USN F-14A and the IRIAF F-14A will look mostly like what we have in DCS now. The biggest change would be the deletion of the AN/ALR-67 RWR.
