  2. please don't ignore all of the updates over the years and advancement we have made. While DCS is over 16 years old we have been constantly working on the core and updating code. Of course there is old code, but it doesn't stop us from advancing DCS. thank you

  3. Hi. I have those liveries' plan about Brazil and Chile after I'll draw panel lines and normal maps. Some government operating liveries will be also --- Brunei / Uzbekistan / UAE / Israel / Cameroon ? (Some insignia , Coat of Arms' graphics are hard to prepare , my worry) Tanker variant(s) will have their own 3d models and I won't draw USA / Italy / Japan / Colombia tanker liveries on current airliner model. Military charter airlines are in my plans --- Atlas Air / North American / current Eastern .... after cargo template ready .... ABX / Amerijet / ATI / West Atlantic. wip for -200 variant ---

  4. It's important to remember that the "2025 and Beyond" video is always about a given year and the future. Just because we see something there doesn't mean it will appear in a given year. Here's an example summary found on Discord with the latest video "2024 and Beyond": The work is still in progress and let's hope that some of it will appear in 2025. 2024 definitely suffered under the influence of WWII, nothing appeared here so fingers crossed still!

  5. Good Afternoon everyone and Happy New Year to you all once again. I hope you're doing well. Thanks, Guys, for the well wishes. I will just call it and say my health will improve this year. Keeping a positive attitude towards life is very important when dealing with health issues and having a loving family makes it all worthwhile. That's a great photo Ggrewe! It fits perfectly with the background. Hey Yann59. if you can find a good detailed 3d model of the Kiev carrier I can look at adding it to my work list but I have to mention it may be some time before I can get to any new additions. Unfortunately, I don't have the talent to create Fighter Jets. I can but it's a lot of work. I do have a Military helicopter I will be working on though. Thanks. I have started the New Year off working on the Horizon Frigates. As you can see below I've already started arming the Andrea Doria. Forbin weapons are slightly different. It has one less 76mm Main gun. I didn't realize but these guys have a lot of weapons. 48 Missile cells holding Aster 15 & 39 Surface to Air Missiles. I have to animate the missile hatches with the low brown texture. Stay Tuned. More AI Ship mods coming.

  9. Long time ago I've created static templates for most of the South Atlantic airports, airfields and air bases. Since in the meantime Massun's pack got incorporated to the DCS Core and some of the mods got discontinued I plan to redo them and this time share with the public. Given the available assets the "scenario" was Argentina teaming up with Russian expeditionary force standing against UK/NATO & Chilean forces and most likely I will keep it like that. Mods that will most likely be used are as follows: SAM Sites Asset Pack Civil Aircraft Mod VPC Airfield Equipment TTTwJ Jets Airport Services Vehicles Eight Ball AI Seaking Military Asset Packs by Currenthill 476th Range Targets Package CAP Vehicles CLP Mods Military Aircraft Mod ? Let me know if you have any thoughts or ideas. Anyway... templates are coming.

  12. I have some specific details on day to day events, like take off times and locations, formations, loadouts etc. My dream is to one day tell some of these stories through Angolan Theatre campaigns. But a map requires a lot of 3D modelling and that is a big obstacle when it comes to South African content. After a few years of working on a project (Cheetah C mod, not related to border war I know but the documentation and resources I have on it is unrivaled so I remain committed to it), I realized that the only people who are interested enough to make a commitment to working on these things are South Africans. And I have also realized most South Africans who are interested either don't have the skillsets or have the skillsets but cannot commit due to other side projects making part of their income. With the Cheetah C mod requiring 3D modelling, I have only encountered a few people from eastern Europe who seemed interested but not interested enough to make the commitment, or requiring me to pay their monthly salary which I cannot do out of my pocket. The modelling of one single aircraft, or a map, is at least a multi month endeavor. I have also met someone who can help with the CFD but even though he is a South African with a passion for SAAF aircraft, he could not commit due to his side projects taking priority as they produce income. There are some people who worked on an Impala mod but that also came to a halt as far as I can see, looks like due to a lack of interest in development work. I believe we can get a fleshed out Angolan Theatre in about a decade or two if we can overcome this obstacle of not having people with enough interest to make a commitment and the skills required to see a project through. I am only a programmer, and I understand how DCS aircraft are developed, and that is where I can spend my efforts. We have some documentation on Impalas and Mirages and maybe even the Buccaneer (I can check with someone maintaining the one at Ysterplaat), not enough for official modules but enough for EFM mods. I know there are people at Ysterplaat and Swartkop who will help when asked, they even opened the Cheetah E and C cockpits for me after years of not being opened. We also have many photos of the region from the time, especially the people in the `South African Border War: Operation Savannah` Discord channel for Arma and Squad mods. Maybe we just need to congregate and put together what we have and then decide if we can achieve something with what we have, and then what we are going to work on and take it one project at a time.

  14. Agreed. For me, "the core" would represent the stuff we get with DCS, and that is shared between all missions (meaning: third party work like Kola, Phantom etc) is not part of the core. Fog is, and - even though it remains far behind our hopes, and makes a mockery of the term "realism" - it has added a lot for me in terms of immersion (shooting a successful precision approach in IMC with ground fog now has become so much more gratifying). I truly hope that the core (shared infrastructure) improves this year, to prevent DCS becoming a hollowed-out shell that merely feeds off its former reputation. There's a lot of technical debt piling up, and the fine folk at ED are hopefully up for the challenge and can resist the temptation to merely milk the crowds through ever-new unfinished modules. I don't know about you, I own some 20 Early Access modules (yeah, slow learner), and i would love to see some of them receiving updates to make them true, quality releases - and the core to receive enough updates to raise overall quality of DCS to a 2020 level app (to me, it currently feels like an early 2000 level app). Here's to ED mastering that challenge and hopefully many, many more years of excitement.

  22. ALPHA STATION - CHAPTER ONE UNITED STATIONS QUICK REACTION FORCE In 1978, the United Nations created a quick reaction force able to respond to crises around the world in minimal time.  Though due to the large number of flare ups in the Middle East, this force was established to handle conflicts anywhere.  Many countries donated equipment and manpower to the cause, but a few nations saw the opportunity to contribute to a cause able to potentially stop hostilities before they flared into regional affairs.  These countries, the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany, donated the bulk of the larger equipment.  The United States in particular, donated several smaller aircraft carriers and the aircraft to staff them as well as two full air transport units. The force was designated as the United Nations Quick Reaction Force and fell under control of the UN Secretary General and the Security Council.  The force was assembled in Southern Turkey due in large part to the available training area, but also because there was a good chance that would be relatively close to their first action. A large influx of supplies and equipment has been flowing to the training centers at Incirlik and Gazipasa.  Unfortunately, most of the donor nations haven’t had time to repaint their donations so the individual QRF units are working to repaint and remark their units as able. The personnel in the UN QRF are taken from military units among all UN members. Preference was given to aircrew, ship’s crew, maintenance, and other specialty skills.  Pay is still handled by service members’ military branches. Your unit is the 2nd Tactical Strike Squadron.  Currently you are split between Gazipasa and Incirlik but you and a handfull of others were selected to operate out of Gazipasa.  As your unit develops its procedures, it was generally agreed that US Navy procedures would be a base as everybody is familiar with them.  Ground crews and other agencies are filled out from member nations so you may experience a variety of different nationalities as you serve. Beginning your assignment, this will basically be a wring out as everybody gets used to operating together and checking out your equipment.  Everybody in your unit has flown the A4 for a while, but you are the only one to be operating aircraft you were assigned to. ……….. Stage One of the campaign will be ramp up and getting your feet under you…for Stage Two. ALPHA STATION.ZIP may be unzipped directly into your DCS Saved Games Folder, it will extract itself correctly. At the bottom of this document are the links to download them directly if you wish. I chose not to include the mods in the Campaign zip as I understand some folks are anal about their installs and would rather handle it themselves via OVGME or whatever method you use. Honestly though, these are not difficult to install. null Mod requirements:  Community A4C, 476th Range Targets There are several scripts enabled within each mission: MOOSE - ATIS and AIRBOSS, MIST for Target Information Tracking Script (TITS), splash damage script.  There are reminders on each mission, but for all these scripts to run properly, when the role select screen is presented, press ESC to make the menu go away, then again to go ahead select your role. If you have never used TITS before, spend some time on Mission 5 getting acquainted with the menus before hitting the range your first time.  You can specify targets for designation by the range controller.  They will fire a smoke rocket, if requested, that will be near your requested target.  You will also get target elevation information. Prior to engaging your target, select ROLLING IN off the range menu otherwise the controllers will be angry with you and you will not get drop results.   You may select OFF TARGET after each pass to get results for each pass or when you are all done with your range time to get a full result list. If you have never used AIRBOSS before, do the same thing prior to Mission 13.  There are a number of controls you can activate within the menus, but for basic pattern and landing you won’t be required to do anything.  The F10 menu for AIRBOSS replaces the stock ATC menu.  You can contact Marshall inside 50 miles. You will receive Marshall stack instructions from the Marshall controller.  You will get advisories along the way from the controller on stack positioning as well as when the carrier is beginning recovery activities if they weren’t already.  Once you have worked your way down the stack and are starting your initial, change frequencies to the LSO controller for final instructions and landing scores. When departing off the carrier be tuned to the MARSHALL controller who will notify you of radar contact after launch and will then release you from control as you depart the area. If you are staying in the pattern select EMERGENCY LANDING prior to launching and you will be automatically sequenced into the downwind pattern by the LSO controller. This is a Dropbox link for a .rar file containing the entire campaign and one accompanying skin. Uncompress to your saved games folder. https://www.dropbox.com/s/b7b2omx5j9volbe/Alpha Station Chapter One.rar?dl=0 476th VFS Range Targets Mod https://www.476vfightergroup.com/downloads.php?do=download&downloadid=482 A-4E-C https://github.com/heclak/community-a4e-c Special thanks to HighlandSpring for his detailed testing and feedback during development. 28. Update: I did some more testing and my guess right now is that it might be a LOS issue. I whipped up a new mission where I had a moving target roaming about on flat, unobstructed terrain. I then created the exact same JTAC setup with an MQ-9 loitering above and lasing the target for me. This time, the LGB hit the target right on the mark. Back to the original mission that's giving me issues, the convoy I'm targeting is moving through a small countryside road that's lined by trees on both sides. I think that the MQ-9's laser is being blocked by those trees, and consequently that is where the LGB impacts. So yeah... it's an LOS issue, but to be more specific, a JTAC skill issue. The AI JTAC simply isn't that good, so now I'm going to have to wait until the convoy reaches a clearing before I ask the MQ-9 to start lasing.

  33. There is a lot that is taken into account when picking and setting fuzes. It all depends on the mission and the desired effect the pilot is trying to achieve. I can tell you common settings for MK82/MK84 M904/905 fuzes are usually 4 or 6 seconds for the arm delay, instant(0) for the function. Typically, the only bombs that will use function delays are your penetrating bombs (GBU-24A/B, GBU-31v3, and any other BLU-109 bomb body). They are usually equipped with a FMU-152 or more commonly the FMU-143. GBU-38s will typically be set to 14 seconds for the arm delay and instant(0) for the function and will either use the FMU-139 or 152, just depends on availability. GBU-12s and 10s typically get 139 fuzes are settings for the fuze vary depending on the mission task.

  40. This is one of those non-consensual topics because.... "it depends". It really comes down to personal preference, setup, and the type of sim(s) you're playing. For flight sims, if you have the space, a large 16:9 screen (42"–55") can be really awesome - either a proper monitor or a good 4K TV with gaming features. I specifically recommend 16:9 because vertical screen space is crucial in flight sims, especially during dogfights where full 3D situational awareness matters. Widescreen formats like 21:9 or 32:9 (which are great for racing sims) reduce vertical FOV and hurt immersion in flight sims. I personally really disliked using a 49" ultrawide for DCS (like looking through a slit, with image distorted at sides), never again. VR, on the other hand, offers a massive leap in immersion - you're in the cockpit. But it’s not for everyone. It can be disorienting at first, especially with nausea or the disconnect from your physical space. Takes time to adapt but, once accustomated, it's unbeatable in the immersion aspect. It's hard to go back to “pancake” (monitor) gaming in DCS after adjusting to VR. The catch? VR demands serious hardware and a willingness to tweak settings. Which means you need to be ready to take the time to read/learn stuff and set it right, and to sacrifice a good deal of eye-candy, to keep framerate as high as possible and frametimes as low as possible. You’ll often sacrifice visual quality to maintain smooth performance - especially in DCS heavy modules or multiplayer. No current hardware completely solves this. I think if you got to question, then it means you'll always be tempted to at least try VR, and see how it is. Even if happy with a big screen (as was the case for me). So..... rather "just do it" and see for yourself. Just don't go wasting a big budget on a top fancy VR headset, disregard the latest (and even more demanding) trendy models that you'll see praised now. Instead, just get a good and proven affordable one, even if it's 2nd hand (for example, the Quest 3 or the Pico 4, also the HP Reverb G2 if you still use Win10). If it doesn't work for you, then resell it later.
