https://x.com/ItalianAirForce/status...00732258939128 Today, AMI (Italian Air Force)'s flight school of Galatina has received the first batch of T-345 trainer jets, which will replace the MB-339A in the role of basic jet trainer. The retirement phase of the glorious "Macchino" is began, after 45 years of service within the italian air force.4 points

Skimmed through but it's boils down to "get the best HW possible, if you can't then decease these and these settings". Not applicable here as the core issue here is the rendering of the clouds, not the user settings. Third party proprietary technology shouldn't have anything to do with the native rendering of the clouds. More so as I have the same issues on AMD GPU meaning all of the DLSS/DLAA "stuff" is completely meaningless to me. I will record the videos tonight when I get home in hopes of this getting some more traction with ED.4 points

Other than it being heavier with that loadout and stores on the wings there would be no difference. The extra drag and weight could understandably require you to pull back on the stick. I don't know what the exact auto-rotate parameters are as that's in the EFM, but it makes sense. TWS issues seem to be related to the same missile issues, I've seen what you described. Sometimes TWS works on multiple targets, sometimes they both go for the same one. Landing speed is 160-180 kts. To be honest, I'm still getting the hang of it myself with the new EFM. I've bent the gear a few times.3 points

Make sure you have the AI skill level set appropriately, start with lower skill levels and work up to the ACE level, you should notice a difference in the challenge.3 points

Would like to request is there any way in code ED can reduce the bouncing of ejected pilots when walking on the ground. Especially in VR it a real puke inducer lol. Great for recon on the ground and touring the scenery to watch battles from ground view. Thanks!2 points

Indeed. Where I've been running no shadows, no smoke, no heatblur, etc - doing everything on low to try and figure out what darn thing is causing these stutters and how to get rid of them. For now I've been fine with DCS running at 50% of what it could be - just to get a smooth experience, and then once I've got that stable and proven, I can start working my way but up to the best visuals possible. This is a major reason why I wrote the checklist. I feel like I've been 'groping in the dark' with DCS experiences trying to stumble across a solution. In some cases it seemed there were combinations, not just one thing that helped. By how much, I don't know. Part of a combination of changes too was due to the amount of hours invested, and then trying 2 or 3 things at once because the load times to get into DCS and close down again in the last couple of versions have been extreme, so I also tried utilising my time more efficiently. Dealing with the stutter issues hasn't been a smooth experience for me (excuse the pun). The FPS limiter was a solution I stumbled across, but then as pointed out by someone else - bad idea - here's a far better idea. The idea of making this list is to encourage discussions on things that may be wrong, or work better. Most of what I've found is lists, but no deeper information on when it's applicable, why it works, whether it's still applicable today, etc. Diagnosing these issues is at best a dogs breakfast to try and work through. (At least it was for me). In that spirit, are you saying that Game mode improves the experience for you? Same with Full Screen, HAGS, and HPET? That now that I have a solution, I should try undoing these settings one at a time because they actually give better performance? The list is more for me to learn from and be corrected than it is just giving other people ideas of what to try. Oh - 100%. This definitely isn't a "Do this". It's a "Check list" of things to try, as well as a list of things that need more discussion. Some of these things were recommendations, but I don't even know the why or how they are supposed to make a difference, or whether they're suggestions that are so old, that things have improved and they're no longer relevant. (HAGS, Full Screen, etc)?2 points

As promised earlier today, here's the video demonstrating cloud rendering issues. The "pixelation" effect is more visible when moving very fast, however the clouds "bouncing" is much more easily spotted. Northstar mentioned in his post that the zooming has an affect on the issue so I've demonstrated that as well. When zoomed in (low FoV values) the clouds remain almost completely still, however when zooming back out to the default values I get when entering the cockpit (I have no snapviews btw) the clouds bounce up/down like crazy when there is movement of the aircraft. Interestingly though, if you move in F11 mode, clouds don't seem to bounce. Additionally, I deliberately made mission with clouds and fog. Fog doesn't seem to show any of the issues that the clouds show. Also, when comparing fog and the clouds, the clouds seem to have this rigid grid-like rendering, it's really easy to spot in the first half of the video where the camera movement is quite fast, while the fog isn't anything like that. The fog is just... fog. Smooth and uniform and feels like the fog should feel. Clouds on the other hand do break the feeling that they are clouds with the bouncing and the pixelation. cloudIssuesDemo.miz options.lua2 points

Just an addendum, this video was taken from the above track, with RTSS and DCS' own performance statistics enabled. Ive also switched from MSAA to DLAA, all other settings are as they were in this post. The clouds still appear to be exhibiting unexpected motions as I make small, rapid inputs on the stick. The motion is subtle but it's still there (the easiest comparison is probably at around 18-22 seconds in - pay attention to the cloud just in front of the mountain - you can see it moving up and down relative to the mountain). And as you can see - rock steady 60 FPS once actually in-game, frame times too are basically completely stable. The only time they differ is immediately upon entering or exiting the mission.2 points
-
I don't have an issue with performance - my missions are kept fairly simple. You can see in the first video I have a stable 60 FPS and the frame time graph is essentially flat - it's very stable. And that 60 FPS is capped both in DCS and in the NVIDIA control panel. My monitor is only capable of outputting 75 FPS maximum (though currently set to 60) and that's only at 1080p. So long as I don't have too many VRAM hungry aircraft in view with full-resolution textures, with more difficult weather settings on maps that have problematic performance at low-level (like the South Atlantic) I'm able to run such high settings and rarely encounter any issues with performance. Regardless though, settings changes nothing with regards to cloud motion, the blurring effect present with DLAA smooths it out but it's still there. Even if I reduce the graphics settings all the way down. The new clouds have always exhibited this behaviour.2 points

As a local resident in the south east corner of former GDR, please find my wishlist for Phase 2: airfields: Dresden; ICAO: EDDC. A unit of Antonov An-26 military cargo planes of the GDR air force was located at this base. My dad is a former GDR air force pilot whoe flyed such Antonov. Placing some Antonovs An-26 visible on the airfield in phase 2 would be lovely! Bautzen / Litten; ICAO: EDAB. In the 1980ies a unit of L-39 using for jet fighter education of GDR air force was located at this site Rothenburg; ICAO: EDFR, used for fighter jet education as well, using Mig 21 Preschen; ICAO: ETNR, unit Mig 29 of GDR air force located at this site Großenhain; ICAO: EDAK, operated by USSR, nuke warheads were stored at this side in separete shelters called "Granit". in german described as "Sonderwaffenlager" Kamenz; ICAO: EDCM, used for cargo plane education of GDR air force Welzow, ICAO: EDCY, operated by USSR military installations: launching sites for mobile nuke missiles operated by USSR in "Taucherwald", located near the city of "Bischofswerda" and at "Königsbrück". Those weapon system called SS-21 Scaleboard or 9K76 TEMP S looking similiar to the SCUD missilie system and was stored on a truck. Those trucks were placed in shelters in this military sites ready for operating. In case of operating, the would have left there shelters for prepared launching pads placed in the site as well. North of the city of "Königsbrück" was a training area for army forces of USSR. The above mentioned mobile nukes were located in the north-west corner of this area near a small village called "Röhrsdorf" civilian sites city of Dresden with it`s distinctive classic buildings, bridges crossing the river "Elbe" and it`s TV-tower transmitter "Wilsdruff" - a distinctive radio broadcasting antenna, about 150m tall, located 15km west of Dresden besides the motorway A4 / E40 - it was destructed a few years ago. thermal power plants operated by brown coal with it`s distinctive chimneys and cooling towers like "Boxberg", "Schwarze Pumpe", "Jänschwalde" , etc... In this part of Germany in times of former GDR huge areas were used by brown coal mining creating a unique landscape. Some sites can be seen currently, like "Welzow" or "Boxberg". The above mentioned airfield "Welzow" is located directly nearby a brown coal mining site. landmarks: large brown coal mining areas between Bautzen and Berlin as mentioned above - very distinctive landmarks. Currently the majority of the former coal mining sites are closed and filled up with water creating lakes. But in cold war times the were in service and this areas look like huge digging holes or deserts with no green at all. I am one of the minority users who has most every module, and while I do not mind paying for WW2 PTO assets pack, I am worried about total community adoption and success of WW2. It is already enough of an obstacle that users need to purchase not only a plane module but also an asset pack for WW2 (which many might expect to be part of the base game). But if WW2 is split into two separate asset packs, this creates further confusion and friction and will hamper adoption of modules, campaigns, and multiplayer. Alternatively please consider an update to the WW2 assets pack to "2.0" (even with the same or a higher price tag) + an upgrade fee for existing users to update to the PTO assets. Even with a higher upfront price, simplicity and clarity for users is increased and it feels less "nickle-and-dime-y". On the other hand, there has as of late been a habit of splitting maps into multiple zones to achieve lower price points, but I have always felt this is needlessly complex and hurts optics more than anything. Obviously ED knows their own internal numbers. If you have seen great success with this approach, so be it, but I must wonder. If only a small minority of customers purchase a specific map portion, is it worth the confusion? A single WW2 assets pack would seem to be a more elegant solution that would reduce obstacles to WW2 adoption.2 points

Yes I think our objectives have quite some overlap. I aim at getting the best performance out of my own hardware, which to me translates in a stable/stutter-free experience, which for me began when I first got my G2 and was fighting to get a decent picture in my headset. So I try to get as close as possible to 90fps without microstutters (1% lows), which I try to realize by stripping and silencing Windows (which is a pretty big chunk of it) and optimizing all the hardware, DCS and the additional software my rig is running. Your checklist is fine; it points to items for people to look at. Some of the things that work differently for me (and are sometimes contrary to popular belief or recommendations that are given here and there); game mode, full screen, HAGS, HPET, overclock on my CPU and GPU, limiting FPS. So my main point would be to check the recommendations, but not blindly follow everything and test things for yourself (if you have the time and interest to do so). Look at the numbers and the experience in the headset (sometimes for me they did not match). Write down the changes and their impact in a log to track and compare and use various tools to do so.2 points

I appreciate the suggestions and heads-up. Honestly I wasn't aware, that we can modify the FM on our own. I'm not sure I have the time and motivation to go down that particular rabbithole, but I will certainly look into what is available on the matter! TY! @Katmandu are there ready .luas to modifiy AI-FM for single player. (I haven't looked into the linked threads yet. Need to do that when I'm home) I assume if that is possible, somebody already did it, no?2 points

Well, I finally got the time that this campaign deserved. I loved it, I've gotten some "unsact" which I have marked, in my defense, I don't think it was always my inability, but my lack of understanding of what was suppose to do. Paco is really good explaining, but he won't answer any of my subsequent questions for clarification I did complete the deployment to the Marianas also. I was very happy not having to repeat any of the missions... until I got to those two pesky Mig21s in the last mission. They shot me down twice. Until I decided not to wait there like an idiot and maneuver to the left when Paco turns towards me close to the merge. That gave me turning room to the right and was quite easy to shoot both down. I hated the night mission, I did not use NVG, so intense and disorienting. I wanted so badly to be over with it and get to the carrier! I have never felt such a relieve in the sim as I felt the aircraft decelerating after the cable trap. Bravo! Flying everything in VR. I felt flashbacks to the original TopGun movie when flying the formation portion, those Tomcats over the desert... and the beginning of the last flight, the fly over, it's a showcase of how good DCS can be -with all its shortcomings- in the hands of talented people, I was mesmerized observing the taxing of all those F14 in the packed flightdeck. Beautiful, I just felt recording it in video, for the heck of it. This was my first campaign. I have actually never really payed attention to offline campaigns but I got curious when I read about the collaboration of Paco, Slick, Bio and the others... and it did not disappoint. Excellent work with passion for the detail and realism. Now I have Zone 5 for after the summer. And maybe Mig Killers and Red Flag when I decide to start with the F4.2 points

Indeed. I feel that there are currently two main avenues that ED should pursue to help people like and retain DCS: first, getting people into DCS and not scare them off. Currently, to me so many things in DCS scream "go away" instead of being welcoming. Setup, understanding what fits together how, getting into the cockpit for the first time, actually doing something fun. So many things seem like a chore, and people are left to their own devices to find out what to do, in one of the worst possible UX. So step one would be significantly improving DCS's accessibility. Second, keep them in DCS, keep them interested and occupied. There simply isn't much to do except learn a plane. Using really, really bad tutorial missions. The Quick Action Generator may one day fill part of that need, currently it's not there - IMHO by a long shot. Mission Editor isn't for the casual user, and can't really be used by a neophyte to quickly create a fun and engaging mission. Discovering User Created content at ED User Files is a trip to the bad old days of 1995's way of doing web stuff. Really bad. Getting good content into DCS that way, and keeping it current is not a good experience, even though there is a ton of great content available. This should be integrated into the main game (and publishing/updating content should be integrated into Mission Editor). So, step two is creating, discovering, sharing and keeping current content much easier2 points

Unfortunately I think the walking pilot is a bit of a “I wonder if we can get this to work” side quest for one of the devs rather than something to take seriously. But man, what I’d give to be able to eject and then forest person shooter my way hiding and evading the enemy and trying to get to a evac point and have someone fly a CSAR helo in, in DCS. That would be epic!! but I think not high up on the ED priority list. But one can dream.2 points

Just as an aside to this - if generic templates are to be used, please make it accurate to a real site in Germany. For instance, the S-200 sites currently implemented have a launch battalion too many (no S-200 site in Germany had 3 launch battalions, only 2).2 points

Good post. I think there is a lot of potential misinformation out there that has not been tested recently. Please see my post at the bottom as I am trying to test these parameters objectively. From what I have tested so far none of these appear to make any difference in VR performance or with stutter. Again I need to complete testing and then I will post my results. I am not sure about this. My gut feeling is that sharpening has no effect on performance in VR but I have not yet tested this. This and reducing pre-load radius can reduce VRAM by about 1GB. However, you don't really need to do this if you have at least 12GB VRAM. Yes. In a lot of situations this can help. But not always. My preliminary tests suggest that you only really benefit from QVFR if you use a narrow centre view. Anything above about 3.5x3.5 has diminishing returns. I am running tests at the moment and really need lots of data from other users using different hardware and settings. If anyone wants to help then please see this post.2 points

I know mate, language barrier is a bummer, but it takes little in both directions, takes little for the many to translate your posts, and takes little for you to translate them for the many. And in any case, it's just polite to do as Romans do when you're in Rome, you know . Whatever it is, has there been any other recent info? I'm eager for the Corsair like I didn't remember any other recent module. I literally posted that DCS lists what you would have to test for. First you would need a list of the installed modules and mods We got that next you would need a list of the mods a server requires That is included in the mission file and lastly you would need the abiility to determine if the lists differ We got that too. Now to get all of this to work, your copy of DCS would have to query the servers to find one which only uses what you have installed. This same filter might also enable player to look for a server that has their favorite module. This guys arguments against having a frequently used controls preset is that controls aren't 100% the same for everything (never mind the fact the idea is to get you enough set up for a free flight). His argument against having a graphics configuration wizard was that ED would need a Cray to run a billion copies of DCS to get every possible configuration when you could use an old-style graphics wizard and ask users if they wanted to contribute their bench mark scores to a database. I think the best thing to do with SharpXb is to put him on your ignore list.2 points
-
I have told you before the built in DCS module manager already lists mods as well as maps and modules you have installed and DCS missions already list the assets required. I have also stated that when DCS sees a mission that requires an asset that you don't have enabled, you get a message telling you that. How do you think an on/off switch would work? DCS' missing assets already encourage and popularize the use of mods online, so all that a good filter, such as the one I proposed, would do is enable people who don't have any mods or official asset packs to avoid the servers that use them. As a mod on/off switch won't test for official asset pack, even if any server with a mod is hidden, you would still run the risk of trying to connect to a server that uses an asset pack you don't have. However, if we get down to it, your problem, Mr. Humphies, is that the ability to filter out both mods and asset packs you don't have would give you one less thing to complain about it would make avoiding mods a lot easier. I get it, Mike, listening to yourself complain is your greatest joy in life.2 points
-
The only sure way to have statics and avoid handler/director issues is to use uncontrolled AI spawning on the slots. The drawbacks to this are that you have little to no control over where they spawn, you get jets spawned where there should be helo parking, you can't add cranes or tugs, and the spawn slot sizing issues online causes "delayed to start" issues with Tomcat clients. Who then, once spawned in, have their fuel weight doubled from an unsquashable bug that's been around for the better part of 5 years now, severely degrading their flight performance.2 points
-
Like it or not, there are people who are willing to use mods. The fact you hate mods doesn't change that fact. The fact there are people out there like yourself who hate mods is the reason that I want a filter so they can hide servers that use mods and official asset packs they don't have. There are developers who get their start developing mods for DCS and there are modules which were originally mods. I understand you don't want mods which is why I think as there needs to be a filter. Even if there were no mods there would need to be a filter because of asset packs2 points
-
You're dealing with a guy who opposed adding a filter to the DCS server list to hide servers with mods and asset packs you don't have. His basic argument was that hiding servers he'd have problems connecting too would be a bad idea becuse it would make it easier to use mods and that a modder should add the filter. Not once did he consider that a filter would make things easier for people like him who don't want to use mods, as it would hide all the modded servers.2 points
