  1. Can we be sure it is just a bug in the Windows Defender? In this special case it is highly probable a false positive, but it still has a bad taste and you always should remain skeptical. In my job, I always tell people: “When you are on the internet, receiving emails or chat messages, always be paranoid. If you have a bad feeling, don't open the website, don't click on the link, don't start the download, don't open the file, because in most cases your feeling is right."
  2. ED could contact Microsoft and find out why these files are suddenly being recognized as PUAs. If it's a bug in Windows Defender, Microsoft should fix it soon, if it's because these encrypted files don't have trusted certificates, ED (or Razbam) should create certificates for them. It's not the customers' job to do these things, and it's highly dangerous to just say “don't worry, it's a false positive”. Next time it may not be a false positive, but then no one will take it seriously (you know the story about the boy who kept shouting “wolves!”?).
  3. dcs.exe starts -> loads the dlls into the RAM -> decrypts them there and executes the contained functions -> Windows Defender finds there is something suspicious -> Alert My machine is alright, otherwise I would have the wrong job. The dll is the problem and even if it is a false positive alert it isn't my task to clear this issue with Microsoft, but ED's.
  4. You are right, but these dll's are encrypted. So Microsoft will not be able to check if there is a potentially harmful function in it or not. These files are only decrypted during their runtime by the dcs.exe and that's the moment where the Windows Defender can check the functions in it that are loaded into the RAM.
  5. I guess, your gaming pc is connected to your home network? So, in this case if you catch a malware (a backdoor for example) on this pc you have good chances that your other devices within this network will be compromised, too. As soon as someone has access to one device within your network you are lost.
  6. I don't blame you... files that changed didn't trigger alerts, file that wasn't supposed to be changed did. I'm not a professional but I'm up to my ears into this stuff... sort of fascinating Not sure what do you want to say. The alert pops up, when dcs starts. Didn't happen before the update. So, some function within the dll has changed and triggers the Windows defender now as soon as it is read by the dcs.exe. The different file size and timestamp shows the file was changed by the update.
  7. Probably, but because of my job I am highly alerted if I get such a report, especially if more than one or two scanners on VirusTotal report an issue. The file has been changed by the update but there is no information about any M-2000C patches in the release notes. That triggers my professional paranoia. I have uninstalled the Mirage 2000C module until further notice.
  8. Hi folks, after the latest DCS update the Windows Defender reports DCS World\Mods\aircraft\M-2000C\bin\M2KC_FM.dll is a PUA:Win32/Packunwan. Timestamp of the file has changed with the update and also its size but there is no patch note about the Mirage 2000C in the release notes. Edit: VirusTotal Scan added
  9. Full agreement. Third party antivirus programs are snakeoil that dig deep into your system and cause more problems than they solve.
  10. That's the typical chicken-and-egg-problem. If more game developers would support linux this number on steam would much higher. We all will pay the price for this dependency from large software providers and their closed source products. I already see it in my professional environment (latest topic: VMWare).
  11. The AIM-9X Block II and Block II-plus still cannot be carried in the weapons bay.
  12. Too bad the F-35 can't carry AIM-9X in its weapons bay, only on the wing pylons. Because of the higher RCS it would be dead long before the F-22 is in its Sidewinder range.
  13. At air shows, the planes fly with little fuel and no payload at all. The F-35 simply has too little lift area (except perhaps for the C variant) to be a good dogfighter. With digital flight controls you can get the maximum out of these limited aerodynamics, but you can't outsmart the laws of physics. The F-35 doesn't even have thrust vectoring to compensate for this disadvantage. The F-35 was never intended to be an air superiority fighter. Its advantages lie in its superior sensor equipment and its ability to operate in a datalinked network of different units. This creates a superior situational awareness for the pilot.
  14. I don't know their exact reasons. But at least for me, war in their country is a very grave one. And by the way, working on this mod is a hobby of them, not their job. So, deal with it.
  15. All these issues came with DCS 2.9 because ED changed a lot of things in this update. Due to the war in Israel the developers are not able to work on this mod at the moment. So I recommend to have a little patience, especially since it is a free mod.
  16. Hello flyingscotsman, you were right. I had 2 older mods from currenthill in the tech folder. They were hard to find because their names didn't start with CH. Thanks for the hint.
  17. Just for information, something seems to be wrong with the CH Military Assets Pack of Russia and Iran. When I copy one of them to my Saved Games\DCS\Mods\tech folder DCS won't start. The other assets packs work fine. Maybe it's caused by one of my other mods but it is hard to figure it out.
  18. what the actual f* ... where's all my text gone o_O Let me try to re-add this: I wanted to point out that, even though all textures which are present in the original DCS zip file (for instance: "BurfordHolly_ShrubSingle.zip"), also exists in Barthek's mod. But the ones from Barthek are older. So, to me that makes this mod outdated. Maybe it's still usable and of better quality, but I don't know. I'm no texture artist. First, the mod comes from Taz1004 not from Barthek. Second, if the mod still works and has better quality then the timestamp of the files doesn't matter. Even if ED has modified just a tiny detail within the files the timestamp is changed. Third, if you dissatisfied with the quality of the mod you needn't to use it. If not I don't understand what's your point.
  19. Quick test: Ramp strike with a Growler. Couldn't reproduce. Could you describe the exact situation in which this happened?
  20. Did you install the CJS Superbug AI Tanker mod? That's the only way to use a Super Hornet as (AI) Tanker in DCS.
  21. The Discord channel isn't dead, I'm active there right now. It was shut down for a few days because some users weren't able to let the politics out of it. And the mod isn't dead either, development is frozen due to the situation in Israel.
  22. You have to create your own loadouts. The "Empty" loadout is, as the name says, always empty.
  23. The KC-135MPRS is only for aircrafts with probe-drogue system, at least in DCS. IRL of course it can handle both types of aerial refueling system, flying boom and probe-drogue.
  24. Me too. To exclude other reasons, I did the following steps: 1. I deactivated all mods (renamed the DCS folder in Saved Games, too) 2. I did a cleanup and a slow repair including additional files Attached a dcs.log of a cleaned, repaired, vanilla DCS installation without any mods. And here is a short video to demonstrate the problem. It isn't from the vanilla if someone wonder about the livery but without any mods. The issue persists in vanilla DCS. dcs.log
