  1. I find the F-18 far simpler than the A10, especially once I had a decent HOTAS.
  2. Edit: Here is what I've come up with thus far as a "Get started in VR flight" guide. It's geared more towards civilian flight at this time as that's what my dad and his friends are mostly interested in, but I may update it in the figure for DCS. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1j0Ia_1yEyvTgktqzk5qalG55QqPMImaWOv4tegk4TzE/edit?usp=sharing Thoughts? Original Post: So I always build my own rigs, just the way I do it. Pre-built is more costly, may not be as good of a configuration as if I did it myself, etc etc. BUT, I got my dad into flying in VR, and now a few of his friends are wanting to do the same. Cost is a secondary concern. I know almost nothing about prebuilts, really only know of Alienware and ROG, but know there's got to be other (better?) options out there. I'm out of state, so building them PC's is kinda out, need this to be something they can just order, or maybe configure and order. Also don't expect them to have a great deal of technical know how to build it. Need it as close to plug and play as possible. I'm thinking I'll be recommending Oculus Rift S, but that's partly because I've had zero experience with other options, and because my dad has Oculus so he's familiar with it as well. It really just needs to be as close to plug and play as possible for DCS and XPlane. (It's only going to be used for flight sims in VR) Any suggestions or thoughts? Thanks!
  3. Haven't had a chance to fly again, but still no idea how to turn it on. I have radios on, tacan volume up, but it just saiys tacan off, even after cycling modes on the hsi
  4. I've yet to get TACAN to turn on after a cold start. Always says it's off. Tried switching it on with the button under the HSI, volume up, can't enter a tacan channel. (Resets to 1 when hitting enter). I feel like I'm missing a step somewhere. ILS works perfectly though
  5. So much to learn, but managed an unassisted cold start, takeoff, accurate ccip bombs and rockets run, then a decent ILS landing. Still can't get TACAN to turn on, but overall had a blast! (Flying the f16, 30 minutes at a time...)
  6. I'd pay for an A-10C upgrade/module... Give us the option of flying with or without the upgraded stuff. Also raise the price of the A-10 module, new sales get both the old and the new.
  7. I had two large fuel tanks and still found it made a clean Hornet feel like a slug...so, very different impression. Wondering if there's some other contributing factor?
  8. I feel like all these talks about flight model stem from f16 / f18 engagements where people are trying to fly the f16 like they fly the f18. They are not the same plane. Pretty certain cw lemoine (sp?) Had a video talking about dogfights between the two (as he's flown both) and mentioned how each pilot has to play to their planes strengths for an even fight. You don't master a plane in a couple hours, sorry to dash your dreams I'll be busy learning how this module flies and having a blast living out my childhood dreams while you complain on a forum. :) To the ED team, THANKYOU. Dream come true, keep it up, continue doing the best you can, and thank you for even taking the time to answer the people that try to say you did it wrong. Those of us that love what you do see and appreciate your interactions with the community even while facepalming the armchair experts criticisms...
  9. Sounds fun, but I'll need some more detail on how to measure them. (Multimeter mode, etc). I've done some basic electronics stuff, but would need to know exactly what you need done. (I own the fighterstick)
  10. So much to learn on this plane, loving it. Was amazed how fast I got going at full military thrust, F-18 I always had to work to get to high speeds, F-16 is like "Let me go faster!"
  11. Yes, thank you ED! This is literally my dream aircraft since I was a kid (now mid 30s...). Flying this in DCS in VR is a dream come true!
  12. Yeesh...making me realize it's going to be hard to keep my son off of VR as he grows. For the post. I'd expect some motion sickness the first week or so. Very much akin to earning your sea legs. I get dry eyes when I wear contacts, but glasses have not been an issue. I've mentioned VR two two eye doctors (my insurance changed) one was just "meh, whatever" and the other was interested and positive.
  13. Hard to remove bias...I've Always been a fan of the F-16. With an ED module (F-16) you know what you are getting, and that it will be completed. F-17... dunno, but looking promising! The above post didn't mention that we will have LGBs on release too. For me, it's the F-16 for sure. The F-17 will just be needed to complete the numeric lineup of F-14, F-15, F,-16 F-17 and F-18. :D
  14. I would hope for a quest 2.0 with a Thunderbolt USB cable that could take the bandwidth from the PC with no issue. Could ship with a thunderbolt converter to USB 3 and Displayport / HDMI. Best of both worlds, in a single headset. no need for funky down sampling / compression.
  15. I guess I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum, truly joining the DCS world with the EA Hornet last year. I assumed that staff would be working on multiple things, and that the hornet would take years to be "fully" complete. Honestly, looked at it more of it will never truly be complete, as there will always be minor changes made, but even major systems will take time. So hearing that some devs were moved to viper to help get it out, and knowing that the viper and F-18 share many similarities code wise...not at all a surprise, or even appointment. Do I want TWS? Yes, very much. Do I want AG Radar? Oh YES! more Targeting Pod stuff? certainly! Have I finished learning everything that's already IN the hornet, and am I able to use it effectively in all situations? Absolutely not. GPS Munitions with the targeting pod elude me. My landings are still far from perfect. I can't even AA Refuel properly yet... sooo much to learn. Not worried that it will all get done.
  16. Awesome! Looking forward to it. Still loving the new flight model, simply superb! May I ask how far down the line ILS / TACAN navigation is on the list?
  17. What, you've never flown with a jettisoned canopy in the hornet? Haha, works well!
  18. So finally got some time to try out the new release, and wow! Amazing difference from the first, very very nice work! I fly in VR and taking off gave me the feeling of taking off, even more so than in the F-18. Just superb! Will certainly be looking forward to future updates (Practicing ILS landings would be a lot of fun) but for now, time to practice maneuvers! :D
  19. Shoot, I shelled out 320 for an oculus rift cv1 with a best buy sale, got a used GTX 1080 (non ti) for around 300, a used ch fighterstick for 50 and used tm warthog throttle for 230. Under 1k for everything needed, totally worth it. You don't need to spend 3k off the bat, I'd advise against it actually....
  20. Yep, just send an email as per the first post:
  21. We still have the lightning pod to look forward to, and air to ground radar. After that, I think we're pretty much feature complete?
  22. Looking through the commits, he's actively working on it. Really hoping for a new release soon.
  23. I'd love a copy of that kneeboard, been looking for something similar to it!
  24. Love using these, still getting a little jitter in them that I'd love to resolve. Wondering if my monitors are having an impact on the camera... Also, anyone figure out a way to do the FCS Bit test in the Hornet with these? I totally get why it doesn't work, but would love to be able to do it. Oh, and Miles. If your son needs help with mobile menu CSS for the website, let me know. Front End Development is my dayjob, so very familiar with coding responsive menus for websites.
