nickos86 Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 small question - why does ED promote VKB in their weekend update? What about other companies? WINWING just released their awesome F16 set... Many manufacturers release hardware... 2
gulredrel Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 Thanks for sharing S-3 update pictures. Re-modelling of AI assets is very welcome. Coming back to the carrier, missing the wires and having to refuel will be much more immersive with the updated S-3. 1

Northstar98 Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 (edited) Loving the work on the FLIR, and was definitely pleased to hear about what improvements to terrain we're getting. My only issues so far is that streetlamps have a noticeable bloom around the actual light source: Looking at several videos online, it's much less noticeable: example 1, example 2. Buildings also look very hot compared to say, the road, I'm guessing more tuning will be done to their emmisivity and reflectivity. As for VKB? still eagerly waiting on the TECS. Unlikely, it was mostly geared towards ASW, which is as good as completely absent in DCS World. Plus I'm fairly confident there are no plans for any more low-fidelity aircraft. 1 Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. phant Posted February 12, 2022 Posted February 12, 2022 (edited) @Wags @BIGNEWY @NineLine In 2018, Wags referred to the development of a new physics dedicated to in-flight refueling that it would show on the occasion of the release of the new 3D model of the S-3. Can you confirm? Thanks in advance! Bye Phant Edited February 12, 2022 by phant 2

r4y30n Posted February 12, 2022 Posted February 12, 2022 Will the new FLIR tech be applied to missile seekers, as well? If they were changed to a contrast lock using the IR imagery then reliability would become more dependent on environmental factors as in real life. Could also be a significant hit to performance, though… 1

This has been planned since 2018 and the improved physics were mentioned at the same time. I guess it will come when it comes. As for VKB, Virpil, Winwing etc. To be brutally honest: I couldn't care less until at least one of them finally gets themselves out of the comfort zone and bring FFB-capable stuff. I'd buy instantly, if my wallet allows for. And I guarantee, I won't be the only one. The community would instantly take their whole stock in a minute, probably. Why so shy? 2
Jester986 Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 I don’t see the appeal of FFB. Would it be cool for ww2 stuff? Sure. But most of our planes with hydraulics and fly by wire don’t offer that much feedback anyway.

I wonder how much of this load it can give when 100 nmi from the boat? Fuel capacity for the S-3? It depends. Internal fuel only was 13K (1,933 gallons / 13,144 lbs), but could also carry one bag on each wing which added another 4K (300 gallons each / 2,040 lbs). Max total was 17K. In refueling configuration, it had a refuel pod on the left wing, and a tank on the right wing, which gives it a maximum of 15K at launch. It has to share that 15K of fuel between running it's own engines and providing fuel to other aircraft. Really limited in the refueling capability, but it beats not having any aerial refueling at all when out at sea. To put that in perspective, an F/A-18C with two externals carries just over 14K of gas, while an F-14 with externals carries 20K. In DCS, if you are low fuel in either of those aircraft and go tank off an S3, you can get short filled as you take the S-3's fuel load down to it's minimum. Very noticeable in the Tomcat. Afaik even the stiff stick of F-16 moves a bit and needs a force of up to 25lbs to get to max of 9G. Fully movable sticks, even in FBW modern jets, are designed with bob-weight mechanism to add significant force feedback for the pilot. 2 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
sLYFa Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 IRL the stick moves when you trim it, so you basically put the stick where you want it and use the trim hat to remove the force which is the opposite of what you do with a spring centered stick, where the stick is moved back to center while trimming. IMO that would already go a long way, not to mention trim release for helicopters. Couldn't care less about any shaking effects though. i5-8600k @4.9Ghz, 2080ti , 32GB@2666Mhz, 512GB SSD
St4rgun Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 Back in 2005 I used to have some Genius FFB stick and used with Condor soaring simulator for practice soaring for my IRL lessions. That was a blast, to just stand still on the field waiting for the winch and have my ailerons moved by the headwind and my stick moved with in sync with it... According to my knowledge the whole FFB era faded because of some mandatory royalty fees (patents). Right now I'm using VKB stick with curved extendsion and TM F16 grip. It's falwless and extremely precise, but for helos it would be nice to have some forced trim.
