COMING SOON Map Used in Video: DCS: NEVADA Test and Training Range Purchase DCS: F-16C Viper from: In this DCS: F-16C Viper video, we’ll explore some of the new features and changes coming to the DCS Viper later this month. Our primary goal is to resolve as many of the roadmap items as possible. I’m going to be coving a lot of different items, and you can find timestamps in the video description to find what you are most interested in. 0:00 - Intro 0:28 - Automatic Laser Designation 3:07 - CCIP Laser Ranging 5:13 - Targeting Pod Attitude Advisory Function (AFF) 7:04 - HOTAS Bombing Mode Cycle 7:40 - Manual (MAN) Bombing Mode 9:03 - ALT Release Button 9:48 - Spotlight Scan Radar Mode 10:26 - Change in CRM HOTAS Selection 11:13 - FLCS BIT Test 11:58 - AN/ALQ-131 ECM Pod 11:27 - Wing Tank Jettison 12:49 - Gun Gas Purge Door and Barrel Rotation Automatic Laser Designation First, we’ll be adding new functionality to the LASR DED page that will allow you to automatic laser designation. As you might imagine, this will be very useful for weapons like GBU-10 and -12 and will not require manual lasing using the trigger. From LIST in the ICP, press MISC at the 0 button, and then LASR at the 5 button. Along the bottom of the DED page, we now have the laser start time. Press down on the “dobber” switch until the option is highlighted and you can then enter the automatic laser start time in seconds before estimated time to impact between 8 and 176 seconds. After estimated weapon impact time, the laser will continue to fire for 30 seconds and then automatically shut off. CCIP Laser Ranging If in CCIP bombing mode with a targeting pod loaded, pressing the control stick trigger to the second detent will fire the laser for 30 seconds to provide precise ranging. Note that when in CCIP mode that the TGP line of sight is slaved to the CCIP impact point. Targeting Pod Attitude Advisory Function (AFF) When the TGP is displayed on an MPD, the AFF alert will display and flash under the following conditions to alert you of an unsafe nose attitude while potentially being heads down and not paying attention. The TGP must be displayed, you must be in air-to-ground master mode, and you must be below the set Altitude Low MSL Floor value. If those conditions are met and if roll exceeds 75-degrees or pitch exceeds -20-degrees based on the gun boresight line on the HUD, the alert will trigger. HOTAS Bombing Mode Cycle Probably the easiest way to cycle the bombing mode is to press the Nosewheel Steering/Missile Step Switch on the control stick. When pressed, it should cycle between CCIP, CCRP, and DTOS. In the current version, other modes are incorrectly included in this rotary, and will be corrected in the update. Manual (MAN) Bombing Mode Although this already available in the current Open Beta, I’d like to talk a little about it today. After selected the Air—to-Ground master mode, select MAN bombing mode by pressing OSB 2 and then MAN at OSB 16. If you were to lose your normal CCIP or CCRP bombing symbology, this can be a backup. On the HUD Control Panel, you can set the HUD Depressible Reticle to OFF, Primary, and Standby. When set to Primary, the HUD symbology will be present, but the Depressible Reticle be the bombing sight. When set to Standby, only the Depressible Reticle will be present with MILs setting. When Primary is used, rotate the Depressible Reticle wheel on the right side of the ICP to adjust the MILs setting. The MILs value can be seen below the airspeed table. I’ve included some basic manual bombing profiles at the link listed in the video description. ALT Release Button In addition to the Weapon Release button on the control stick, you will be able to use the red Alternate Release button on the left auxiliary panel in the update to release weapons. Spotlight Scan Radar Mode When Range While Search or Track While Scan radar modes, a Spotlight Scan will be required to designate the target. To do so, place the radar cursor over the desired target on the FCR and press and hold the Target Management Switch up for greater than one second. This will place the radar into 10-degree azimuth and elevation scan of a small volume to rapidly build track history. For best results lead the target a tiny bit and let the radar build three to four target histories before releasing the Target Management Switch and commanding the radar track the target. Change in CRM HOTAS Selection So that it does not catch you unaware, the HOTAS command of Target Management Switch right to toggle between Range While Search and Track While Scan modes will change from holding greater than 0.5 seconds to greater than 1.0 seconds. FLCS BIT Test When performing a cold start, a real-world element is to conduct a FLCS built in test of the control systems. Once the aircraft is started, moving the BIT switch on the Flight Control Panel from OFF to BIT initiates the BIT test. You will see the light above indicate RUN and the various control surfaces of the aircraft will run through a preset series of movements. Once complete, the RUN light will extinguish, and the BIT switch will return to the OFF position. As we watch the FLCS BIT test run, you probably noticed the AN/ALQ-131 ECM pod. Although it will behave the same as the existing AN/ALQ-184 ECM modes, the option to load the AN/ALQ-131 pod will be available. Wing Tank Jettison Another external item that we’ll talk about today is a correction to how the external wing tanks are jettisoned. Currently, when you jettison the wing wings, only the wing tanks are jettisoned and not the pylons. This was in correct, and with the update, the pylons will also be jettisoned. Gun Gas Purge Door and Barrel Rotation When the gun is fired, the gun gas purge door will now open to remove gun gasses from the gun compartment. Additionally, we’ve added an animation to the barrels of the M61 cannon. There are many more changes coming in the next update, and we ask that you review the change log once available. Manual (MAN) Bombing Table for MK-82, MK-84, and CBU-87 attached. MAN Table.pdf22 points

"Yeehaw, back to working on weapons & sensors Pictured: Targeting with the velocity vector" "So for you guys wondering the A7 has a few different targeting options: 1. NORM ATTACK mode - Visual aiming on the HUD via the velocity vector (shown above) or by slewing the aiming cursor and designating. Leads to a CCRP drop. Allows for precise targeting during ingress with only a visual 2. BOC (Bomb on Coordinates) mode - as it sounds; leads to CCRP drop 3. CCIP 4. Radar bombing - similar to norm attack, but targeting with the AG Radar All modes except CCIP can also be used in offset mode. Offset mode is used when the target is obscured or more easily located by reference a nearby landmark; it will aim weapons at a chosen offset from the current target. The large amount of targeting options, when combined with the various release parameters (salvo modes, interval drops etc) gives the pilot a a great arsenal to deal with almost anything on the ground. You have limited guided weapon options though, so being a successful A7 pilot will depend largely on mission planning & pilot skill" - A post from @MikeNolan on our Discord channel.17 points

R550 Magic I (on Mirage IIIO) had Auto scan with Auto Lock. This was a very large and rapid scan by a Gyro mirror (not seeker nutation). The scan volume was around to slightly more than 1/3rd the angle subtended by the canopy arch. Once locked the seeker was then only limited by gymbal limits. No tone whatsover heard until Lock on achieved. Initially a chopped tone then steady tone once the missile was good to go. From lock to ready to go could take up to 0.7sec but was usually quicker. Also had pilot selectable boresight mode scan. Head could not be slaved by the radar. I think the button you seek is the 600m/300m button5 points

I started a thread here which started off with me asking a question about the confusion over CW and non CW bindings in the Spit module. It ended with me taking some time to investigate this behaviour, and coming up with conclusions about what is going on so that we all understand it. Here is what I said in one of the posts in that thread: 'I was interested in what is going on here, so I made some investigations. I deleted (renamed) my Input folder so that DCS would create a new one on demand. I loaded DCS and started in a non-CW mission, made a bind, and a SpitfireLFMkIV folder was created in a new Input folder Quit that mission, loaded a CW one, then the bind above was there from the SpitfireLFMkIV folder I then made a bind while still in CW mission, quit, then loaded a non-CW mission. Bind was there and still only SpitfireLFMkIV folder. However, I then quit out of DCS, reloaded, then started in a CW mission, there were no binds. I made a bind, and then a SpitfireLFMkIVCW folder was created, and the binds applied to the non-CW missions as well. So, conclusion 1) is that whatever variant you start in, the binds in the appropriate folder apply in that session to both variants. This is awkward because, for example, if you start in a non-CW mission, make a bind change, then the next time you load DCS, if you start in a CW mission, the change will not be seen. This means that you have to make any bind changes to both variants by starting a mission for both on a DCS loading, or copy and paste the relevant folder. The next question was, what does selecting from the main DCS UI menu ‘Options>Controls>SpitfireSim’ do? 1) If no mission has been loaded, or, if you loaded a non-CW mission, then changes made there are directed to the SpitfireLFMkIV folder and apply to both variants within that session’s missions. 2) If a CW mission has been loaded and quit from, then any changes in the main DCS menu are applied to the SpitfireLFMkIVCW folder and apply to both variants within that session’s missions. In conclusion, 1) Binds apply to both variants and are dependent on what mission you have loaded first. If it was a non-CW mission, then the binds in SpitfireLFMkIV apply to both within that session. If it was a CW mission, then the binds in SpitfireLFMkIVCW apply to both variants within that session. 2) Changes made in the main UI Options>Controls menu are applied to SpitfireLFMkIV if no mission has been loaded, but if a mission has been loaded then changes are made to the variant folder of the mission that was first loaded. All in all, this seems like a mess, and I’m pretty sure that this is not the way ED want this to work. I feel we should raise (or update) a bug report on this after this. Unless someone else has already come to the same conclusion as me, of course!' So, hopefully, ED will look at this and will now be able to reproduce the issue every time and raise a bug report.4 points

The F-18 has a default skin for the Blue Angels but the F-16 does not have a skin for the Thunderbirds. Why? Was this just an oversight? Navy is represented but the Air Force is passed over. Yes I do know you can download them in the user section. This skin should be in the default list.4 points

I've spent years in DCS with all the warbirds. I have finally had to put them back in the box and taken out the F-16. I do this because of a very IMHO incomplete series of products that has caused me no end of frustrations over the years. Particularly the development of individual and incomplete aircraft without what appears to be much thought in the holistic issues of theaters, opponents, logical progressions of conflicts disjointed theater offerings and more. It seems to me that if a development group can make a warbird for ED, then they are in but without the forthought of the bigger picture we the consumers require to maintain enthusiasm in a product. Limited longevity! Trying to get time online with many other virtual pilots is restricted to two main servers and they have limited numbers by timezone. But, go to a modern jet and there are many servers and many online participants at any one time. In order to fulfill my personal desire for more community interraction, I am forced to go where that action is. That action at this time is not in any way fulfilled by WWII products and scenarios. I am saddened by this but I must go . . . .4 points

I don't think the argument of "it was never on the Spanish jets so it won't be included" works, given what they're doing with the Super 530 or the Sea Eagle on the C-101. My guess is if the F1M was remotely capable of using it (or other similar weapons), it will be included for the sake of variety. Which is honestly perfectly fine given how loadout restrictions work these days.4 points

I'm citing real life F-15 pilot opinion who flown both types extensively, not an amateur from the internet trying to interpret by himself some video without any telemetry - no offence, nothing personal. Nobody said 2-seat F-15 can't turn at all, it's just significantly worse at low speed/high AoA than 1-seater canopy. That's all. Nice airshow BTW, thx.4 points

All the long journey now has an end point, the Cockpit is 95% complete, they will never be 100% really. My Facebook has a lot more pics and vids that cant be uploaded here due to size, but thanks all on the ED Forum, Open Hornet, @bnepethomas for all the Help over the last 2 years https://www.facebook.com/BenF18Sim/ Ben3 points

Thank you for your feedback, and thank you for your honesty, I get it guys, and I feel your pain, WWII is my passion as well. I do love modern fighters the A-10C II is so much fun but I would much rather ground pound in WWII. So please do not feel ignored, I know its hard not to but we do have some things in progress and I will bring these concerns and messages to the team as well.3 points

That's exactly what I mean - the 101 has the Sea Eagle even though no country ever actually bought/used them. You're right about pit/controls for the Exocet, but depending on how much work it is it wouldn't be impossible either, see e.g. Lantirn on the Tomcat (or some features on the Mirage 2000? I think the GCI datalink thingy changes the pit a bit for instance).3 points

Well, I have a different experience with Reshade. ...and nobody asked you to use it or did I miss something?3 points

Yeah, that's my favorite part of that cockpit. It's an SMS panel, not an MFD, despite working more or less like an SMS page on the MFD (this is why SMS page in the modern Viper looks so sparse, it was directly derived from that display), but it was quite advanced for its time. It's comparable to the armament panel in the Mirage 2000. IMO, it's quite possible someone will try this, after running out of higher priority modules. Either a 3rd party, or ED themselves. Remember that we're slowly running out of the obvious choices for the next module, a there's a lot of them in the works already, and ED has generally stuck to making the absolute biggest hitters.3 points

Spent some time this evening starting to clean up the throttle quadrant, along with mapping out how all of the control inputs will be implemented. The throttle grip has a three position switch for the Speed Brakes (Open, Neutral, Closed). It has a MIC button (for radio comms), it has a CAGE button (switches the gunsight gyro cage on and off) and a twist action (which controls the gunsight wingspan range). The twist action drives a central shaft within the grip which extends down into the quadrant and is directly connected to a potentiometer. Levers on the throttle quadrant consist of the Throttle arm, the flap selector arm and the fuel cut off arm (which also has a relight switch) on the Australian Sabres. The flap selector works by engaging a micro-switch (located at the bottom of the quadrant) in different positions.3 points

Wanted to take a moment to illustrate the problem with some of the complaints people have regarding this issue, using an actual F-14 5v bulb backlit panel. The images are from in front of my kitchen window about an hour to sunset. First is with illumination off, second, on, full brightness. You'll note that illumination isn't helping you with panel legibility during the day, as the only place you can see rhe light is where the paint is either covered up by mounting equipment (mounting holes) or scratched away. Thus, if you saw red during the day through one of these panels text in daylight in DCS, it'd be wrong. Second, the micro mount bulb sandwiched inside these panels are of the same output and draw as those found in Korry switches (Gun Rate/Missile Prep/Norm-Bore, etc) as well as the warning annunciator panel. Look at those illuminated (red) mounting holes. Now add a transparent panel over the top, but with a material that isn't perfectly transparent, crazes, clouds, and yellows over time. Then add a couple years worth of dirt and grime. That's all of your panel illumination warnings and lit buttons. They aren't easy to see from the start, and any time in service is going to make it worse. Lastly, consider the amount of cast illumation from the light outside. Scale that up from just a window, to that provided through a massive bubble canopy. And now compound this issue as a whole by far too wide of FoV values from those on monitors, and too low illumination, pixel densities, contrast, and shallow FoV for those in VR headsets. Those photos were taken at 10-12" from the camera. Looking at them from an FoV that puts you where the DID glare shield is, or through a pair of glass Coke bottles, isn't making it any clearer.3 points

Indeed. But I meant more in terms of there now seemingy being a desire to do something about it, which hasn't been the case for many years. A proper map for the purpose and better damage models for ships, is a good start especially if the latter also comes with introduction of countermeassures. The Nanuchka class was in Flanker 2 and I wouldn't be surprised if the P-120 "Malakhite" missile for it still remains in the code to this day.3 points

I am of course talking about the Lun class Ekranoplan as seen in the video game World in Conflict! It'd be really cool to see this in DCS, skimming the ocean at almost 300 knots!2 points

I think one of the downsides of leaving them on is that they slow your acceleration when they're down. So, best to disengage them if you don't feel you need them in the moment.2 points

Hello "sedenion" Regarding the radome of the Mirage F1, it is larger than the black part, on the photos you can see the fixings (red) On this photo we could clearly see the radar which is protected by the radome. Indeed the mechanics have a strong idea to fix radomes which have different colors of the plane. Below are examples: Black and Green, Black and Blue, All Black, All Green......2 points

You are welcome, but the mission editing work was all yours ... currently I'm with very little time for DCS, so I haven't yet learned the Mirage fully, once I do I will for sure fly this Campaign. As I said on your other thread, I like the record that the Campaign keep about your progress through them .. I took it for a quick spin, just to take a look, like this: I liked your new graphical briefing, no need to keep the PDF nearby It seems that I'm not the only one who likes this format .. your Campaign has so far almost 200 downloads on just two days Best regards, Eduardo2 points

It's essential for Dogfighting, but you don't need to operate it continously. So when you bind it to a toggle switch on a buttonbox or keyboard commands, it will probably work.2 points

i think you have to delete the default anti-ship-strike tasking and only add a limited tasking like "attack group" or "attack in zone" or similar. also be sure to have ROE option on "assigned only".2 points

Very well explained StiC. This is exactly what I encounter too. It’s a fantastic module, truly, but this bug has made it completely unenjoyable and impractical to fly. All my mates are buzzing around at zero feet having a ball! Please fix asap! Thanks, Wiggy2 points

Thanks guys for all this info, I was going to ask about the Saved games folder but you all beat me to it. Thanks you BitMaster for covering that. I hope to pick up the new 1TB SSD tomorrow, same type just 1TB instead of 500gb. I have another M.2 slot available as well. Once installed and formatted, or whatever it needs to do, I will copy and paste my DCS from my main SSD to the new SSD and create a new short cut to start it. ( I know how to do that ) Once I start it from the new drive and it all goes well I will delete DCS off my main SSD and just keep that for my OS. All my other sims are on a 2TB normal hard drive. Now at least I'll have a dedicated SSD for DCS only, damn game is getting to big. Thanks again.2 points

Don't they get stuck down, and then you can't sweep the wings? That feels like a clue... of course, I've never done that, that's just what I've heard... Also, regardless of where you set the flaps to be, they will still show as down on your panel. Clue #2.2 points

It also retracts combat flaps if deployed So essentially, you have one command to arm/ deploy (depending on speed) and one command to disarm/ retract: both on the throttle. I agree it may looks complicated at first, but it's actually rather simple.2 points
