  1. Yall catch a lot of flack (very passionate player base) so I figured I would share my mind. There is nothing like this game out there. The visuals with 2.8 are a decent improvement, the BFM AI is extremely fun... I know 2.8 hurt some performance (myself a VR player), but I do know that rewriting an engine is no joke. So keep it up, I get to spend countless hours getting smoked by my old man (former adversary pilot) and many other things. 20 years ago I could never imagined I would be strapping into a F18. Keep working the core of the game and the future will be bright! Keep the glass side up

  3. As stated, there are 2 Main Bottlenecks in DCS, the Core, the Graphics API. Core: Being a primarily Serialized set of code running on often a single thread, gets bogged down in heavy missions with scripts, AI Routines, Physics etc etc etc., when the thread is saturated with commands and scripts, it causes delay in processing, which causes FPS drops, freezes, sync issues, and delay in sending commands to DX11 API due to the saturation of the Main DCS Thread. Going MT Removes 1 Bottleneck, by allowing DCS to Run on multiple threads, thus not allowing the Render commands to DX11's API to get held up waiting in line for Simulation Scripts to be processed. Thus more stable FPS, and likely an increase due to the fact that DCS's render commands are no longer waiting in line behind a bunch of AI, Physics and Weather Scripts/Functions/Code GFX API: Being also a serialized API, with a large overhead in high object count scenes, the more 3D Objects in a scene the higher the CPU Overhead, the higher the overhead, the slower your GPU receives instructions, the lower the GPU Utilization and the lower the FPS. Going to Vulkan removes that overhead, so Large object count scenes do not slow down the commands to the GPU and thus, Utilization and FPS remain Higher. going Vulkan also removes DX11's Hard Limit on resolution, MSAA Type, Single Channel Instruction paths, HDD->CPU->GPU Memory Access Overhead,and about 20-30 other things I wont get into due to the complexity of the things, and outside of programming a normal user honestly wouldnt understand any of it. But they all affect GPU Usage and throughput, which affects FPS. Until they are both gone, your GPU will not run Full tilt. however if you remove the ST Bottleneck, then the only bottleneck remaining is the GFX API, so if you plop your F-16 at FL30, over water, with no other objects in sight and remove any limiters, you'd get a glimpse of that. But as soon as Objects start to populate the scene and the CPU Overhead builds up, those FPS will do down like a rock.

  4. Hey everyone, I just wanted to share the following with you guys From this video at around 2:15 we can see the following : 400kt, 6.8 g, PS~0. For this video the Mirage most likely does not have 100% fuel and surely is at least a little bit above sea level. If we compare with the DCS Mirage: I find that we are pretty close :).

  7. My apologies for being obtuse - I included myself in that "whiny and entitled" category at my attempt of levity. For the entire existence of humanity there has never been, and never will be, an objective price. Take a cup of coffee. I might think it reasonable to pay USD 5 for a cup at some Caffee at Bahnhofstrasse, much like someone else might at a Starbucks in NYC. Ask a Nepalese worker who earns $200 a month if they would pay that price for what's essentially a beverage made from hot water and caffeine plant (in Nepal, probably Tea), and you'll get a blank stare. In Venezuela, the price for a cup of coffee went from 450 Bolivars in 2016 to over 1'00'000 (one million!) bolivars within little over a year. At which point was the price objective? All prices therefore are purely subjective, a negotiation between vendor and customer. It's even worse with intangibles like software that cost the same to produce 1 unit or 1'00'000. So if you think something is too expensive, that is because you are right. It is. For you. That is regardless of how much is asked. Heck, even when people try hand out something for free, there will be some to whom that's still too much. Don't believe me? Head over to the User Files section and look at the free offerings. Some author lovingly crafted a mod. Invariably, you'll find someone who deems that free offering as 'not worth your time to download'. No price can ever be objectively fair, adequate, or reasonable. Any discussion along those lines is futile. If you agree to the price, purchase. Maybe try to haggle (in which case entitled me will whine about the price to the vendor in an attempt to have it lowered). If you come to an agreement, fine - a purchase is made. But one thing is absolute: there is no objectively fair price. Never was, never will be. There's only agreement between seller and buyer that they individually feel the amount paid is sufficient for what is offered. Any opinion I may have on what has moved me to agree to that price may not sway you; so engaging in a discussion about what may or may not constitute a 'fair' price for a module is so intrinsically personal that it becomes pointless. I wasn't attacking you (nor am I now), I'm trying to point out that everyone has their own understanding of what they think is a good price, and all 'discussions' to get a vendor to lower the price is engaging in 'whiny, entitled behavior' to get it lowered. "Histrionics" as I called them before. Entertaining, and who knows, sometimes successful. But in no way ever fact-based, because there is no objective price for anything.

  8. was able to figure out how the bug is working atm. it seems initially you cant get brst acq to work and the HSD shows a wider scan zone than it should be, and the tms up release acquisition wont work no matter how many times you attempt, but if you switch to any other ACM mode and then go BACK to tms up boresight acquisition, then it works, and this is also reflected by the little pencil beam radar scan zone on the hsd (which moves every time you release tms up to that position and stays static until tms released again). you can see this in the track file. so for players an easy workaround the bug in the meantime is to hit dogfight mode and quickly to like, tms right for hud scan for instance, then immediately hit tms up and the new tms up and release mechanic works as intended, however if you go back to bvr scope and move the radar cursor around and adjust the antennae a bit, youre able to replicate the bug when going back into dogfight mode tldr theres something wrong with getting the mode to actually start working initially, fix is toggle acm modes for a quick second, then it works, and im sure this is easy fix on ED side (i hope). all of this demonstrated in the track file F16brstacqbug.trk

I would have to disagree on this news letter based on my group opinions and talks we have had whilst flying on Discord and in game this week, I was and we all were all really excited for 2.8 and its moving clouds, but I would say 80% thought the patch was pretty lack luster after it broke so much and frame rates dropped for 70% of the VR users, it wasn't overwhelmingly positive at all once you got a few days into it and discovered all the introduced bugs, it certainly took the shine of it which is a shame for such a pumped up update. What we liked PG lighting which is awesome but our group thought it was a strange map to use for this and thought it should have been the Caucus, we know it will be introduced across other maps but the time line on that, well its ED it could take years. F10 map updates What we didn't like FPS hit, as I said 70% of our pilots have said in VR and none VR they have taken a big FPS hit online and some offline, I'm talking up to 25% reduction in FPS compared to 2.7. Module bugs- so many, its too many to list but lots reported here when I have looked CTDs (some are fixed with the patch) Then we get a small patch that fixed quite a few nasty CTDs which was great and few module items but also ignored some pretty major ones like the KA-50 cockpit language issues with mixed Russian/English cockpits and autopilot issue (all reported) this is on a module that never had any major issues. If your beta testers didn't pick this stuff up and report it, id dare say you need some new ones in your testing groups, we picked the KA-50 issue within 5 mins of flying it. I cant recall a time when our servers have been empty on weekends but so far Friday night (our servers big night) we have seen literally zero participation in our online missions, is this due to 2.8 bugs or a slow loss of interest in DCS as its performance declines slowly, I have no idea, but its the first time for a while I have looked at playing some different games for a long time as none of my Discord mate are around flying since 2.8 come out This is also the first time I have set up a duel install of DCS so I can go back and play the last 2.7 build offline for my SP missions with out the 2.8 bugs. Sorry this isn't a positive post, DCS is such a great game and I love playing it as you know, but for me its slowly dying due to a lack of focus on things need and not needed. AI updates - across the board mainly ground units that are boring to fight against. Lack of focus on what your programmers are implementing for future updates i.e. internal 3D modeling of systems on the KA-50 V3 sitting behind panels I wont see from inside the cockpit and don't really care too much for because I cant see them and wont use them, or animated Apache pilots getting in and out of the bird, there is much more these guys could focus on that is way more important than this stuff. Performance promises in updates that don't eventuate when the updates are rolled out. This stuff is killing DCS for long term players like my self, who are actively engaged in DCS and have been for a long time and try to be the best DCS ambassadors we can for the brand on our servers.   11. I paid $1000 for a watercooled R9-295x2 ages ago. And the original Titan card was $2-3k. Dunno where you've been, but the high end cards have been hitting $800-1000 for a really long time, way before crypto and this other stuff came up. And really? PC GaMiNg is dOoMeD!!1!! Jesus @@ Guns as a hobby are way more expensive than PC gaming ever was or will be, yet every dollar store redneck I know has a rack full of AR-15s and hunting rifles and routinely blows off a couple hundred dollars of ammo. People have money for the things they want to have it for.

  12. Not a "typical" RWR, it was actually the first RWR in service with the USAF and it is a very primitive unit. The A-4E was not initially equipped with this device, it was fitted later, to those A-4E reworked per AFC 325. On this early stage, the APR-25 had no "scope", and even if it did, the instruments panel didn't have space to fit it, that's why the Chaff and ECM were mounted on the cockpit frame rather than on the consoles or front panel.   13. Да ну, JF-17 от Deka будет получше чем F/A-18C от ED. После апдейтов говорят что и Mirage 2000C от Razbam тоже весьма хороший крафт ничем не уступающий модулям ED, и даже в некотором смысле превосходящий. Стоит упомянут, что Razbam, например, не забрасывают свои модуля и допиливают их до совершенства, а ED походу уже забили на Як-52. Стыдно за такие дела должно быть... А, ну так это другое дело! Он не не законченный, он просто заброшен. Это кардинально меняет ситуацию!

  14. I have noticed that this depends on WHERE you start. It was more to do with whether or not it's flat where you start. Solution is to always use brakes. However, there's pretty much nowhere on Caucuses map that you should be rolling at start. Incirlik on Syria map is a different story.

Is that really "correct as is"? note how despite the FCR not showing anything depending on the filter that i deliberately chose, i am still able to lock targets by using the FCR cursor symbology on the HSD as aguide to slew the FCR cursor over the targets (while FCR SOI). does the filter really only affect displayed symbology? why would one use a filter to "filter out" unwanted stuff, but knowing that if one is not precise enough with the cursor, it might still lock some hidden thing nearby? how do those filters work (besides the obvious change in displayed symbology)?   20. While we effectively don't have concrete performance documentation (because none are available to the public), we didn't formulate the FM by only "cobbling together piecemeal sources". We based the FM on known data points like the video above and procedures like the engine out landing that give us a very good base for what the aircraft should be capable of. We then built the FM following aerodynamic studies to create the coherent and realistic wing. After that we talked with SME about the behavior and performance of the aircraft to fine tune FM where needed. While I'm sure our FM is not 100% correct to the real aircraft in the whole domain, I think it's a good enough representation and most of all, the closest possible with the data available to us. We also have demonstrated, using the video above, that the Mirage STR at around sea level and 400 kt is correct while we have yet to see a credible source that would demonstrate that the aircraft performances are incorrect. But don't get me wrong, I agree that our model is not based on turn rates from actual documentation and thus is not as solid as the DCS F-16 model for example. People are right to question the authenticity of the Mirage FM but we are providing a lot of information to backup our model. Thanks.

  22. Tried it again tonight (after downloading the latest hot fix patch) and everything seemed to be working fine. Heck, I even managed to hit the target with both CBU-87's and CBU-97's. Thanks for fixing things ED (if they were broken even. I'm not totally convinced it wasn't user error)

  23. Found the problem... It's the Terrain Object Shadows. Flat gives you the problem. Off or Default is good. But the flat option really needs to be fixed as the default option takes a big fps hit on some systems. Having terrain shadows off fixes the FPS problem but looks silly with no aircraft shadows on the ground. Image below is with default.

  24. "slave radar" only this is not the case at the moment the radar does not slave but waits at the old position until you release TMS Forward, this is a bug.

  26. Regarding Shkval color. It depends on what version of Television Monitor IT-23 is installed. I have only seen yellow/green-ish appearance from real life footage. Black & White on recorded footage (most likely recorded internally) but not from monitor in cockpit. @Chizh can probably share some more info as this subject has been discussed over the years, but I think ED originally modeled it black & white because they found that new black & white version IT-23VM (ИТ-23ВМ) was installed on the Ka-50 #24 and #25. Since we are dealing with a prototype helicopter, maybe a selection in Special Options for monitor color would be a nice touch?

  27. Hello, ok, so initially it was meant to be just a compatibility update but I guess I went a few steps too far with it. There is still some work to be done here and there but the release of the new version should be just around the corner. This time I'm going to include optional sweetfx settings to make the scenery even more vivid. Cheers!

In particular the status of some items originally slated for inclusion: Bf 109 G-6 Hawker Typhoon B-26 B-25 B-24 Avro Lancaster Also the likelihood of any of the following items to potentially see inclusion: WW2 era Cargo/Tanker Ships Destroyer Class Ship Minesweeper Class Ship WW2 era Mobile AAA vehicles WW2 era Fuel Trucks WW2 era Ambulances WW2 era Fire Fighting Vehicles Eastern Front WW2 Assets Runway Lighting Object for defining runways during twilight operations I appreciate that we've had a fair few additions that were not originally planned but I think most of us here would agree that those items listed above would massively help to make the WW2 Asset Pack be more usefully complete.

  30. Thanks! No, no, I didn't suggest the team "hid" the RWR scope to cause social unrest or something I'm sure they know what they're doing. What I didn't understand was why there are 3 "ON/OFF" switches for 2 things and "AUDIO" switch to change audio from RWR to you-don't-know-what. It turns out there ARE 3 things there, not 2, and the AUDIO was to switch to some kind of jammer audio for the pilot, but no one knows what sounds it would generate. So everything clicks now. And now for something completely different. I'm a pro - look! null

  31. Гораздо лучше. Бросить не доделав в состоянии " ну летает, чо еще надо", это в разы хуже просто хреновой ФМ у полностью готового самолета. Это в целом говорит об уровне отношения разработчиков к пользователям. По остальным, ну вот субъективно. Я летал в реале из того что в игре представлено на Як-52, Л-39, Су-25. Сравним только их. Элка очень даже ничего. 52 не похож вообще, с 25ым сложно, на каких-то режимах похоже, но в целом ОЧЕНЬ много недочетов по ФМ. То есть для меня сейчас уже 2:1 не в пользу моделей от ED. Причем тот же як и грач имеют в магазине строчки про профессиональную летную модель, которая что-то там максимально точно передает. И стоит Як 2500р. И при этом перспектив допиливания этих машин нет вообще никаких. Мне очень нравится МиГ-15 от белсимтек. Чем он хуже любого модуля ED ? Тем что нельзя предохранителем пощелкать на М-16, или что там ?

  32. For some. Not for others. There is a judder to the scene when looking sidways where more movement is more apparent. The proven solution for this was always to Alt Tab out and back. At present its not exclusive full screen. If it were I wouldnt be able to see my windows system volume bar when i adjust the sound. As for why the posted solution doent work - I dunno - Im not involved in game development. I just give money to people involved with game development Perhaps ask your team? But, all that aside - please raise the matter with the Team again as not everyone has benefitted from this, as far as I can tell, unnecessary change. Thanks

I don't know if you're already aware (or even better, already a happy customer ), but just in case: On the 3rd-party side, @Reflected has released two great DLC SP campaigns for the Tomcat: "Zone 5" (which he made together with "Bio" Baranek , that emulates a TOPGUN training detachment), and "Fear the Bones", which is more like a Hollywood action film (story wise), albeit with realistic procedures and tactics. He also already submitted the files for his upcoming "Speed and Angels" campaign to ED, which he made with "Paco" Chierici, a "training campaign" which basically adapts the stories from both Paco's documentary "Speed and Angels" as well as his novel "Lions of the Sky" into DCS: so about half the campaign will be spent in the RAG, where you learn the basics of Tomcat operations from a real former F-14 pilot, and the other half is with the Fleet. Also, check out the voice actors for this campaign! Further down the road, @baltic_dragon is working with Mooch on a Tomcat campaign as well. But that's still a long while off, I believe.

  34. At some Point, maybe with the RTX5090, nVidia should just put Mainboard Mounts on the back of it w/ a shroud, and external standoffs for the PSU and HDDs, Mount the Mainboard to it and call it a day.

  38. Я так и не понял, для чего ввели в настройках сервера пункт "requiry pure scripts"? На всех серверах стоит "no", то есть НЕ требуются чистые скрипты, но на сервер НЕ впускает, из-за того что скрипты изменены и проверку целостности не проходит. Какой смысл тогда в этом пункте? Если будет "yes" стоять, то в два раза сильнее не впустит на сервер чтоль?

  39. I'm not sure this checkbox does anything useful. Regarding "improved" FLIR image, it's becoming more and more difficult to find targets using the A-10's TGP in FLIR mode. Vehicles are always cold, and do not have any texture (plain black - or white - blocks), and are very easy to miss on the ground clutter or between trees. Trees and bushes are often hotter than vehicles, sometimes not fully (i.e. half a tree). I've never operated a real-life TGP, but I've seen lots of videos from Apache pilots during 1GW, and the vehicles are more contrasted than they are in DCS, even when cold. First, they are never truly cold (don't tell me that 10 minutes will be enough for a huge diesel or a gas turbine to cool off completely). Also, even when at air temperature, there is contrast and texture to the vehicles, making them easier to differentiate from other stuff like trees, bushes and all. Finally, as soon as their engine is on, they build up heat quickly. Could something please be done about that? At the moment, the FLIR system was degraded, not improved.

  40. Welcome to DCS! Helo's are definitely a new challenge compared to fixed wings, there's no doubt about that. But it's extremely satisfying to be able to conquer and master the flight (let alone to employ weapons). For me, I find the helicopters a little like Air to Air refueling. Challenging at first, but rewarding after being persistent. Start with low expectations, lots of patience, and be kind to yourself and you'll get there. (Although I found learning to fly helo's easier than AAR ) As a warning though - Helo's were what got me into VR. And the Huey in VR is the most incredible experience. Even though I can do more in missions and MP with Apache - the UH1 in VR is the most pleasant simulated flying experience I've ever had!) However - I have always enjoy the flying first, and weapons system secondary.

  41. Боюсь что с линзами паймакс не осилит. По теме: Итак, полетал в OpenXR и снова вернулся на SteamVR. Причина очень простая: 4090 не везде вытягивает 90 фпс, а точнее не вытягивает она их в тяжелых местах у земли, где становятся заметны подергивания при взгляде вбок. В англоязычной ветке рекомендуют для этого включать 60гц на шлеме, но мой организм такого мерцания не выдерживает: или глаза вытекут, или в эпилептический припадок свалюсь, как от той серии покемонов. В общем, лучше 45 но с репроекцией, чем 70-80, но с рывками... В принципе, oxr стал прекрасен с этой новой версией шарпенинга. Осталось только репроекцию нормальную запилить.

  44. Absolutely rediculous. This is a military Flight sim and it has generic pilot models in flightsuit, helmet, visor down. Anybody who wastes a thought about if there's a dude or dudess or which color the invisible skin has (there's way more than two colors...) should just stick with "The Sims" and troll somewhere else.
