Good evening friends, virtual pilots! After the weekend I spent at the museum, I bring you more news. I took a few shots and established other contacts regarding my project with people who worked on these aircraft in our air force during their time. I am also bringing a few interesting photos and also a short video of the starting sequence and the pitching of the engine before takeoff (of course, this part is not completely finished yet, but I am gradually working on it). I wish you a nice evening and watching! Many thanks for your comments and continued interest in this interesting aircraft!6 points

Hi, I have made 12 min video with Harrier's all guided weapons. It is not depth tutorial, but can be usefull, when coming back to Harrier after some break to remember steps for weapon deployment. https://youtu.be/dKmdV2sG7Tg5 points

In the terms of the FX Development Concept Paper (DCP), the F-15 is "Optimized for counter-air missions" operating as part of TAC. ... It is no surprise, therefore, to learn that the DCP calls for the F-15 to be "superior in air combat to any present or postulated Soviet fighters both in close-in, visual encounters and in stand-off or all-weather encounters." According to the assessment, an improved F-4E with new wings and engines was not considered able to meet FX objectives. The performance requirements embodies in the FX Request for Proposals were intended to equip the resulting fighter to better all existing and proposed Warsaw Pact opponents. As of the late 1960s these were represented by the small, agile, MiG-21 ...(and -23 and -25 and Su-15) At the same time some compromises had to be accepted, so that the USAF's original requirement for a maximum speed of Mach 2.7 at high altitudes, for example, was reduced to Mach 2.3 with a Mach 2.5 burst capability. The higher speed not only would have prevented the use of a bubble canopy... More generally, performance was to be a consequence of high thrust-to-weight and low wing-loading, which had been recognized as the fundamental elements in providing the desired degree of superiority in performance and agility. By the time Boyd was assigned to the FX program in October 1966 he had already developed his theory of energy maneuverability... Thus the F-15s low wing loading and high thrust-to-weight ratio combine to make it exceptionally maneuverable. (In Israeli service) Combat is usually conducted at close quarters with infra-red homing missiles and, of course, the 20mm cannon, underlining the continuing requirement for the classic dogfighting type of aircraft. Excerpts from The Great Book of Modern Warplanes F-15 chapters written by Michael J. Gething and published in 1987. Can we put to bed that the Eagle was not designed with close fighting in mind? As if the 900+ round ammo drum and 4 Sidewinder stations didn't already cover that.4 points

It will take as long as it needs to take to be the very best simulation of the Ah-64D on the market, so yes. It is ED. You cannot compare this to the Viper, it is nothing like the Viper. In ways its much more complex than the Viper just looking at multicrew/George.4 points

I'll clear that up right now - you're right, it's not an F-15 statistic, it's an overall weapon statistic and it was a study on the trend of BVR changes. You write about nothing all the time, what's your point? You wrote that the eagle wasn't designed for dogfighting. You're wrong - it absolutely was, and they absolutely train for it. You make some dubious statement about attiring bandits BVR as the reason for this. Guess what F-16's do - were they built for dogfighting? You made some dubious statements about there being no maneuvering fights. The F-15 has been in a bunch of IRL turning fights (as I've mentioned before), and a bunch of those sparrows were shot well inside WVR range, under WVR conditions. Again, easy to look up, do that yourself. Even in very modern combat aircraft have found themselves in very definite WVR conditions, that again runs counter to your earlier statement that maneuvering capability is somehow not needed. Everything single aircraft designed has a minimum maneuvering capability, and any aircraft designed for air to air combat primarily has plenty of it. The F-35 is one aircraft that is designed primarily for strike, and so it's not so great at dogfighting ... but air to air is it's part-time job.4 points

Airmans don't worry We were very careful with the lighting setup, we tried to make the lighting not very intense, not as bright as it is in peacetime. And in the default settings of 1944 the lighting is off, the lighting will appear only if you select 1945. Everyone can choose the lighting mode that he needs.4 points

The SR-71 free module is the best SR-71 module we have available and to be honest it's not bad. Of course, it doesn't have a cockpit. Or a decent flight model. And it's missing all the cool details that you find in a decently high-fidelity aircraft. But the 3D model of the aircraft is good, and it's symmetrically and aesthetically pleasing. Now, Im just a graphic designer by trade, but the one thing this mod could REALLY benefit from right now is a proper visual afterburner model. Currently the torches just look like 2D yellow cones coming out the back. Would it be a difficult task to modify these afterburners to match some of the other higher fidelity aircraft modules we have available for DCS? I know nothing about modelling, just some basic skinning experience. Thoughts?3 points

Hi guys, Aerges did a nice job with the CE checklist, but I like it more compact. As usual I made a CE version and today I updated it to the EE version plus Night Ops version of the checklist. Two pages and it solve it. You will find the EE specific items in purple. An example bellow: It may be download from Mirage F1 CE & EE Quick Checklist Files Download Page. I hope you like it. I'm fairly new to DCS, and started out when I saw that they were going to release the Ah 64. This business model is what we in Norway refer to as "selling the hide before the bear is shot" The price of a "pre-release" that is going to let me download a WIP seem a little steep, considering the the lesson learned from AH 64 that is still WIP. I'm really not comfortable with the rhetorics used, as they remind me too much of emails as discussed on Dr Phil involving Nigerian princes. That said, as it seem to me they are operating on economical margins, I'm hitting the "Purchase" button and give them a "godspeed" as I've done on a few inferior modules with intentions of pure support. Because all in all; DCS world is my absolute favourite product. (Well I'm leaving out a couple of my guitars in this equation)3 points

Your point being? The EDA and M are two different pairs of shoes with the EDA being pretty close to the EQ5/6 and CR/CT, which is what most people would like to see. The *other variants* will be the BE, which is basicly a two-seat CE with 200l less gas and no internal guns.3 points

I guess everyone needed to be clearer in their instructions: Look at the minimum and maximum launch distance on sidewinders. Unless you have more specific information (which at this point you'd need to provide a reference for), all you can say is that sidewinder shots happened between these distances. What's important is the *definition* of maneuvering combat, your opinions have nothing to do with it. Don't try to bring up how far an AIM-9 can be used in DCS, you know the conversation was about the 104 real-world kills. You tried to say that few of the F-15's air-to-air victories were in maneuvering combat but declined to give any numbers. When one makes an argument, it's up to them to prove it, otherwise it is invalid. It's not up to anyone else to prove you wrong until you provide actual hard data that appears to prove your point. Since then you've claimed to not have said things you very clearly said and tried everything possible to throw shade - without sighting hard evidence - when others contributed facts. I want to believe you're just tilted because of the insults you say you have copped in PvP but you're just embarrassing yourself now and you obviously aren't arguing in good faith, in fact this is getting pretty close to trolling. Either provide some facts or be satisfied you've expressed your opinion and leave it at that.3 points

TOO uses the HARM as a sensor. So does HAS in the Viper. However, the Hornet picks up emitters instantly without any modeling of scan cycles. Doesn’t seem much different than how the Viper models restrictions on laser codes being programmed on the ground only (physical limitations of the weapons), Maverick bore sighting procedures, etc. that the Hornet doesn’t include.3 points

All they have announced is that there will be a navy variant and that will be a separate module to purchase i.e. will not be part of the DCS: F-4E product See the FAQ Q: Will there be a Navy F-4? A: Yes! Our Phantom journey only begins with the -E. However, owing to the complexity of the work and investment of time and effort, it will not be included in the DCS: F-4E product. We’re instead choosing to focus on providing the most content rich F-4E we possibly can, and then set our sights on further telling the legendary story of the F-4.3 points

As it is now only RPT actually jams. The criteria for when the REC mode could be forced into RPT was not that clear and hard to transfer neatly into DCS so the decision was made to have it like that. Could change in the future ofc.3 points

I'm genuinely amazed, that such a newsletter which have very minimal new information was able to generate more than 150 comments so far. Furthermore all the information included in it was already known, even the starting date of the pre-order period was quasy "known". Not the EA depoyment date, but "only" the pre-order which means several months will pass till the EA launch. So basically people are arguing and flaming about something which is several months away... And not even about any technical details related to the module, but some pricing policy. Unbelievable. But OK, this newsletter was purely dedicated to the F-15, I understand. Now we have 2 days to get the next one, which will hopefully contain ANY information about the core development. You know, 1st March is around the corner...3 points

@Laurion You really wanted this to be your first post? @ topic Strike Eagle coming, some people already pre-ordered, some people will buy, others will not. There are fans of HB, RB, ED. End of a day, nobody really cares, about what others do or don't do. For example nobody cares I buy modules form ED store just as much as nobody cares that I don't buy 3rd party aircraft as no third party proved me wrong yet. RB has got a chance now, but we will see. These old games bring back such fond memories. And to think most of us thought the graphics back then were amazing LOL. I can't imagine what the state of sims will be like 100 or even just 50 years from now! I guess we will eventually have real Star Trek like holodecks in our homes in which we could literally step into a virtual world without vr headsets and those virtual worlds would be so real they would be indistinguishable from reality. We would be able to literally touch, hear, smell and taste things just like in the real world. There was an episode of either Star Trek: The Next Generation or Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in which Engineer O'Malley and Dr. Bashir (I think) used the holodeck to pilot Spitfires during the Battle Of Britain. They experienced exactly what the real pilots did in every detail. If I could only live long enough to experience something like that . . .3 points

Wanted to share how I export my USB MFD’s to the F18, A10, F16, F14, and yes the AH64 with TEDAC ON 3 of these 7 inch screens. https://www.ebay.com/itm/314007752209 I would like to give credit to a really great guy I found on Etsy (HornetSimShop) for supplying me with his 3D modeling prints. His design fits my racing seat by GTR perfectly, he also continues to perfect his design, Checkout his work. My pit is in initial building stage, some rough edges, here a couple of photos, as well as my windows display arrangement. I used one file we named (MYCUBESF18.lua) located in Eagle Dynamics /Config/Monitor Setup/ folder to export the displays. The other file (TEDAC_init.lua) located in Eagle Dynamics/Mods/aircraft/AH-64D/Cockpit/Scripts/Displays/TEDAC I had to add one statement dofile(LockOn)_Options.script_path..”Displays/TEDAC/TEDAC/_PagesInit.lua”) this allowed the TEDAC to export to my lower screen when occupying the front seat. I hope this simplifies your efforts, many post just seemed hard to follow, considering how many different ways to export MFD’s. Note: you may have to adjust your exports in the MonitorSetup folder to your specific center monitor. I spent less $500, not including 3D filament and Thrustmaster MFD’s to build my panel. Here are the parts I used to connect the monitors via USB 1 Startech USB 3.0 to 4 x HDMI Adapter 1 Alitove 12 Volt 3 amp power supply 3 Twozoh ultra-slim flexible HDMI cable 1 Powered USB Hub, Rosonway Aluminum 10 Port USB 3.0 Data Hub here are some of the pictures for example.2 points

Nah. In oversimplified terms, the J-8 series has more in common with the MiG-21 as the J-8I (Called J-8A later on) was created out of a proposal to make the J-7 bigger and thus more capable. The J-7 was lacking in range and, given the size of China's territory, they needed something to cover a lot more land. The really simplified way to look at the J-8 is a MiG-21 that's been increased in size to accommodate more fuel for greater range and more power in the form of two engines. The J-8I, however, wasn't the most advanced fighter for its time. It did its job, but it became pretty clear that it was going to need improvements in terms of its sophistication by 1980. So, it got better radar and that gave it the shape that bears some resemblance to the Su-15. In fact, sources typically cite aircraft like the F-4 Phantom and MiG-23 as inspiration for the Finback's shape, not the Flagon. In fact, one could say that the MiG-23 provided more to copy from than the Su-15. This development is what became the J-8II, what we're getting. Then, toward the end of the 1980s, the PLAAF wanted its J-8IIs to be more capable of intercepting Soviet bombers and so they went to the US for the Peace Pearl program, which is the exact variant we're receiving. So, is the J-8 a remake of the Flagon? Nah, not even close. Is it a chimera? Kind of, but not much more so than any nation's first domestically designed and produced aircraft. Is it a MiG-21? An honest man would say it has MiG-21 roots at the most, but I am going to say it is because my bias is apparent!2 points

I'm looking forward to this module but personally I'm still don't know why we need this kind of pre-order - without any EA date. If I make a purchase on Kickstarter, I have a date, so ok, I freeze the money for a specific purpose, but I know until when. The discount is nice, but I will pre-order as soon as the date is announced. Now I don't really see the point in freezing money. This is weird for me.2 points

It's a double edged sword. Human opponents can't detect the missile from as far away, but they can anticipate it and preemptively defend it earlier. And you don't need AI-perfect notching to break the AIM-54's active lock and send it into its evasive pull up maneuver. Human pilots can do it easily too of their RWR is good. The AIM-54 is not easily defeated because the AI is too smart, it's easily defeated because of the current guidance limitations. It's a PDSTT lock that can be notched , (and once it's notched even once it's toast), while the AWG-9 is a PDSTT that can't be. It's illogical, but an unfortunate limitation apparently. New API can't come soon enough! By the way, what servers do you recommend? Seems like everything these days is either air Quake, or cold war (Fox-1 only), or PVE.2 points

PvP is just a part of dcs. Keep in mind that there are many (maybe even the majority) of players flying pve on and offline. Then it's not about just shooting some random guy out of the sky, it's about achieving a missiongoal. And then you pick the fox3 over the fox1 without a second thought, as it means you have way more control over the situation, clearing the path for a strikepackage for example. Fox1,2 and close dogfights make for good 1v1, or maybe 4v4 fun but we are flying in a combat simulator which is capable of so much more than that.2 points

You see, you did something I suggested not to do - you dived after fire. Try again but fire from longer range say 45-50nm, turn jammer on (turn it off when range is less then 29nm), and KEEP alt until pitbull, Then you can skate if fired upon or push him. Keep alt at least above 20k but best 30k unless fired upon from less then 10nm Your second 54, you fired from alt 3k feet, and 54 couldn't even break mach 2. Fire it from 30k, mach 1.2 and missile will dive down speeding up even to mach 3. Thats aim 120 speeds. Much bigger difference. I recreated your scenario. If you gave bandit any special actions or attributes feel free to share your mission I will try to find best tactic BTW AI was set to ace Tacview-20230222-002159-DCS.zip.acmiTacview-20230222-002844-DCS.zip.acmi2 points

Dito!

Why can't people pay honestly for honest work that someone else has done? More and more often, wherever I go, everyone asks about discounts, promotions, reductions, some points ... Where are the times when someone performed work, valued it and someone else paid for it? They probably disappeared when banks, insurance companies, AmWay, people like Madoff appeared ... how to earn money to do nothing and have ... and if I have to buy something, it's best that the seller gives it back for free and pays extra. .. Someone is forcing someone to play DCS? As I wrote, the F-15E could be at full price in pre-sale for me. I would buy it anyway. Anyone feel cheated because they could not use the collected miles? I can give him mine because I don't need them for anything. I don't understand this world for some 20-30 years...2 points
