Hi, please take a look at our recent newsletter, we have already implemented phase 1 of the radar update and phase 2 is in progress. Phase 2 is planned to include: look down, variable RCS, ground clutter, false targets, tracking through the beam. Improved holding of STT/HDTWS lock should be in the next update. thanks5 points

Catastrophic wing failure rarely, if ever, occurs at the initial over-G, especially if it is short duration. The catastrophic failure normally occurs at a later loading of the wing. Normally, one would see indications of the over-G such as fuel streaming from the wing tanks, unusual control inputs for straight and level flight, etc. More significantly, other parts of the airframe break before the wing does. The structural testing program report I posted in another thread clearly indicates that there was NO structural failure at ULTIMATE LOAD. There is direct evidence against catastrophic failure yet we have catastrophic failure at ultimate load. Why the F-5 was chosen for this draconian treatment remains a mystery, especially with direct written evidence contradicting the modeling and 5 plus decades of hard aircraft service with no anecdotal examples of wing structural issues.3 points

“Terror in the starboard seat” by Dave McIntosh. Hands down. Read it now and thank me later. Easily one of the best written autobiographies I’ve read.3 points

v1.3.0 Black shark is not alone in SharkPlanner anymore: support for SA-342 Gazelle was implemented. NADIR Navigation System allows entry of up to 9 waypoints. As reminder NADIR does not direct autopilot, so selection of entered waypoints and steering has to be done manually. All 3 variants are supported. What's Changed New features Added support for NADIR in SA-342 Gazelle Added ControlWindow reference to experimental callback call Bugfixes Fixed issue with ABRIS and Ka-50 BS2 Fixed removal of targetpoints in target list Fixed control button being disabled when switching slot Corrected entry of 10th target into PVI-800 Corrected number of fixpoints (4) for Black Shark Progressbar is now above elevation chart (will be moved in future) Replaced the literal strings with constants Full Changelog: v1.2.0...v1.3.03 points

I already posted an update to your code here It's ported to the U8g2 graphics library and uses new invertable fonts. Beware of that it has to be used with the ESP32 boards. Regards, Vinc3 points

A long-standing issue (probably, I believe it's also known as 'dirty canopy' since 2019) with the Tiger is that the cockpit's glass becomes exceedingly 'foggy', or 'dirty' when at a certain angle to the sun. I could fix this with a simple patch to the glass shader. With the entirety of the shader files now being part of the integrity checks, this fix has become inaccessible because we no longer can patch the glass shader. For reference, this is how the glass canopy currently looks when the sun is at a certain angle. In this screenshot, I'm turning final for landing. Points for anyone who can tell me which map. Bonus points for telling me which airport This was easily fixed by toning down the canopy reflection value in the glass shader. Now, after modifying shaders is off-limits, I no longer can fly the Tiger. Note: this also affects the Mi-8 (glass becomes opaque) and Huey (excessive cartoonish cockpit reflections) Screenshot was taken today (20230718) in current OB, no mods, VR Thank you for looking into this.2 points

Free to Play | Multiplayer Development Progress | Calling on Content Creators! Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that the Free to Play Program is available for all of our most popular modules, such as the DCS: F-16C Viper, DCS: F/A-18C, DCS: AH-64D, DCS: Mi-24P Hind. If you haven’t yet test flown some of the fabulous aircraft, don’t wait to discover something challenging and new. We are happy to announce that we are working on some important improvements to the multiplayer interface. The first step involves adding numerous filters and a search field to the "Select role" server screen. The second phase will include being able to select spawn locations directly from the map. These enhancements are based on your feedback and from multiplayer server owners, closed beta testers and content creators. Thank you and keep those ideas flowing. Please kindly remember that if you are a server owner or a content creator, we’d love to hear from you! Make sure to get in touch for a chance to be featured in a future newsletter. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics __Free to Play | Multiplayer Development Progress | Calling on Content Creators!__ https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/newsletters/4d003ebe55ff58ad10fbc08bcd060e3b/2 points

You shouldn't really be able to reach a g at which you can snap the wings unless you're loaded. There is an additional (maybe minor, maybe not?) issue here where the elevators have no resistance due to air pressure, achieving deflection and thus g that they shouldn't be able to - basically the highest recorded G on an eagle, ever, is 12.5 which ended up with bent wings, fuselage etc. But it didn't break apart. Not really surprising, but you'd bend the wings depending on how long you kept that g going (maybe you'd bend them no matter how long at that g). The issue in DCS is asymmetric g, so you need to put in a bit of roll with aileron or especially rudder. Another possible issue is that the wings are being broken instead of being permanently bent and affecting the FM. This is a bit of a compromise between realism and gaming - making the wings break is relatively quick and easy, making them bend and screw up the FM is less so. Not an issue - do a bit of research on the STOHL curve for g tolerance. Basically the brain has a few seconds of oxygen available even if you mess up your AGSM. The higher the g, the less that available consciousness time.2 points

This was also debated on the forum here over the past week. See this comment from Klarsnow (a former F-15 WSO) on the matter:2 points

Yeah, I've read that book. He mentioned helping out with the development of the HTS R7 variant, but exactly what that upgrade entailed is left out, apart from being generally better than it's predecessor. I don't even know if the R7 variant is accurate for the DCS F-16C. ED should however have access to the necessary documentation as they've modelled the HTS pod and HAS page in-game. All I can say is that I find it extremely improbable that you can't mark SAMs in the F-16CM-50, and I wish ED could bring some clarity upon this topic.2 points
-
There are so many variables attached with such a requirement that it makes it difficult to deliver a complete solution. Is there an engagement prior to reaching the zone? Is the flanker running for the cover of the SAM site? Should both aircraft re-engage once the flanker has left the protection of the SAM site? I have a basic solution in the attached example but I have no idea if it meets all your needs. In this example the aircraft will re-engage when the Flanker leaves the protection of the SAM zone. @MoleUK We're talking about the F-5, here. The Mi-8 issue is already reported internally. Oh wait, the F-5 issue is also reported internally, which means I won't need a track.2 points
-
Shadows off can help reproduce this as it makes the problem worse. I haven't hopped in the F-5 for quite some time, but to trigger it in the Mi-8 you usually need to face away from the sun so it's shining from behind to get this effect: I'll try and remember to disable the clear canopy mod that fixes this later to see if I can get a track for you.2 points

@RaisedByWolves I was merely pointing out that limestone maybe shouldn't catch fire right away (unless I was dumping fuel and creating a spark with my skids). A damage model for the pyramids, sure thing! I will give you credit for the creative use of a bombing range... @Slippa Please lower your voice. We wouldn't want @OnReTech to think that we were using one of painstakingly-recreated Wonders of the World as anything other than a tourist destination for sightseeing.2 points

At what point did you think placing a cursor over a knob in an F-14 screamed realism for you? Personally, I think the word "cursor" was the first red flag that we stepped outside the boundaries of realism. I am all for more visibility options especially for VR users. What harm could it possibly be? We have an entire F-menu for communications, a Jester menu, and you can literally hover over any switch, knob, or button and the game will tell you what they are. None of that is realistic, and exist purely to help the user. Why would hovering over something with a mouse pointer but now tell you what channel you are in finally break the immersive world we have? I think some rules for realism can be bent for a better user end experience. No need to shoot every idea down. You have nothing to gain.2 points

That goes right out the window once air combat occurs, then, assuming they survive you have no idea what it is. I note that every time this topic is brought up, there's never any answer from anyone at ED, so I have to assume they don't want to answer... which is an answer.2 points

As a DCS hoarder, I certainly understand that it's possible to collect 'em all, but it's impossible to know 'em all. That's made me appreciate the growing stable of older aircraft for variety and try to focus only on a couple newer ones. I also think a big part of the fun is learning and practicing, whether it's the familiarity of hopping in the P-51 or Huey, or maintaining Hornet skills on the boat or in the air. Spending some time focusing on one aircraft, and then going out and utilizing the stuff you practiced in a campaign or on a server, is really satisfying. Doesn't even matter which aircraft.2 points

I have for now two products from Sebastian .. ICP and RWR Display .. all works fine and quality is good. ICP was around 150€ + 20€ shipping cost +/- . ICP works as a joystick , so no need of extra software.2 points

DM me your info. I have a proposal. They release 3 years from now, I'll buy your copy. They release inside a year from now, you buy mine. They release outside a year from now, but not 3, draw. *Not joking - one time offer, I could really use a free module.2 points

Hi! So, I've been learning to fly the Su-25T, and I'm at the Shkval TV guided missile and bomb tutorial mission. The missile works perfectly, but the Kab500kr TV guided bomb just cannot hit the target whatever I do, despite doing everything by the book. I open the Shkval, find the target, I get a lock and manuver the plane so the targeting reticle is just above the tail of the aircraft on the HUD. Just as in the manual and youtube tutorials. The bomb releases and it falls all over the target, except hitting it. The only time I managed to hit was when I couldn't get a lock on the target, so I just released it anyway. I suppose it was by accident. I tried bombing from 500-1000-1500 meters, no difference in the result. I tried to make my own mission, trying to hit other type of structures and vehicles, but this bomb is just not following the target. Is this weapon bugged in the game? Edit: After a lot of trial and error, I came to the following conclusion: CCRP release is crap with TV guided bomb, they miss 95% of the time. The way I can almost 100% hit a target is that I release the weapon above 1200-1300 meters, with more or less level wings and heading towards the target, but just releasing the bomb when it is in the launch distance, and not using CCRP.1 point

The Nevada map is an awesome map, but it could use some love, like the addition of the Las Vegas Raiders' stadium. Maybe add a bit of the Grand Canyon to it as well.1 point

If easy comms are disabled then on the ground the '\' key works. If airborne you need to use the correct keybind for the radio you're using. It's often labeled transmit, or something like that. 'right shift \' and 'right control \' are the ones used for ED jets, IIRC. Something like that.1 point

I make the pop-ups erratic and extreme on purpose. To simulate a more complex final maneuver that the missile would have in real life. Especially since we can't move it laterally which would increase its Pkill enormously. The doors are configured correctly, they open on alarm state red and close on green. But it's up to DCS to determine if they go back to green. And I've found that ships in DCS have a tendency to not go back to green as land assets do.1 point

I also recommend to change vth_thickness default value (settings.lua) to 0.8 which give it a look closer to others module's HUD.1 point

The RAZBAM Mig-19 has builded by the "cuban team", that has none access to Q-5 info. It is very unlikely that this could happen without realistic and credible information about that Chinese plane without access to manuals and other info.1 point
