  1. DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum We are excited to announce our first full fidelity 4th generation Russian fighter: the MiG-29A Fulcrum! The Fulcrum has been a massively successful, single-seat fighter that was developed to counter the F-15, F/A-18, and F-16 during the height of the Cold War. Today, it serves numerous armed forces, and will fill an important role in DCS. Based on publicly available manuals, the DCS Fulcrum will be a 1980s era MiG-29, but it will still be a potent threat to other DCS aircraft with its array of radar- and infrared-guided missiles, its 30mm cannon, and unguided air-to-ground weapons. In the right hands, the MiG-29 can be a tough opponent with its Helmet Mounted Sight paired with high-off boresight R-73 air-to-air missiles.

  4. As you may have seen in the changelog for the Russia asset pack I'm going through all the radar, reflection, countermeasures and weapons parameters when updating a pack. So there may be some relative inconsistencies until I'm through all the packs. But the goal is to have a more uniform and holistic approach to the weapons and systems configurations. As requested earlier in the thread, I will be adding a modern loadout B-1B in the next US pack update, with both the JASSM-ER and LRASM. It's an impressive antiship delivery platform equipped with the LRASM.

  5. DCS: Marianas World War II To support the DCS: F6F Hellcat and other PTO aircraft and units coming to DCS, we have been adapting the current Marianas for the past year and into 2024. The map is based on painstakingly researched documents, photos, and accounts of the Mariana Islands in the summer of 1944, at the time of the Battle of the Marianas between the United States and Imperial Japan. This will be a free map that leverages our latest TDK for improved performance and realism.

  8. DCS: Iraq We are also excited to announce an Iraq map coming to DCS. From Operation Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom to the War on Terror, Iraq has been one of the most significant flash points of the late-20th and early 21st centuries. The Iraq map will initially be centred on Baghdad to best provide War-on-Terror and War on Isis scenarios. Later, the map will be expanded south to provide older scenarios like Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom.

  9. Actual footage DCS - 0.25 slow motion DCS - from a different angle - 0.25 AND 0.1 slow motion --- The shovels deploy far too early and too slowly. The actual footage shows the bombs gaining a larger separation from the aircraft before the shovels deploy, and when the shovels deploy, they are far quicker. In DCS they actually may be clipping into the aircraft; it's hard to be 100% certain, but it does look like it with drops from certain ejectors.

  10. A simpit (cockpit building?) has nothing to do with AAR skill. Maybe VR would help but practice matters more than your controls. You can change your fuel amount in the Mission Planner even if you’ve selected Unlimited Fuel. DCS doesn’t need an Easy AAR feature simply because doing this isn’t necessary in order to play the game. Yes it’s a fun and rewarding skill but it’s not mandatory. There are many workarounds already available. Using Unlimited Fuel, flying shorter missions etc. In single player DLC campaigns always have a workaround and multiplayer is of course unscripted so there’s no mandate there either. Not being able to do this is no real loss.

  11. Not only does hardware have a huge impact on AAR, real pilots say it's harder in DCS, even if you have the best setup.

  14. Think of it like the battle of Brittan with the big table, except the ground controller can phisically move you himself by transmitting waypoints via a datalink to your autopilot, and it's linked and corrordinated with the SAM batteries as well. You and your team are then put in the most advantageous position, and the target you are prosecuting is marked on your hud without you having to have your radar on. Once your in range to engage the target, you take over the final part of the intercept, your radar is already dialed onto the target and you turn on your radar to lock your target then release your weapons, and follow up if it's required and after shooting down 1-2 planes you head back home. It's basically what the Soviet defensive strategy was, and what they figured was the best way to quickly organize and coordinate assests, to counter penetrating air attacks over their very large landmass which was also surrounded on pretty much all sides where the enemy could attack from. In theory if someone was to develop it with combined arms, you could in Multiplayer have someone in the tactical commander slot take control of your jets if you allowed them and try to steer a flight of you and your teamates into the most advantageous position, which would actually be kinda cool Anyway the good part of the system is it drastically reduces pilot workload so the pilots can really just be concerned with making sure all systems are working in the aircraft, and fine tuning the sensors so that you can quickly engage your target. The bad part of the system is that the sensor to pilot interface on your aircraft are not really well designed to help give you the best overall SA picture even though they are quite good for target acquisition and guiding weapons, but then that's a problem for ground controller to worry about overall SA. There's a lot of you and only a few of them, and while you are expensive and they want to keep you alive, because there are so many of you, all your training and hours are less then your opponents.

  18. Good Afternoon Pilots. I have started my data mining campaign much like I did with the F-105 that some of you may be familiar with. Today I bring to you an English Copy of the MiG-25P Combat Employment Training Manual. I will continue to add any Engineering or Technical Data that I may find or purchase here in this thread in hope a developer will be enticed enough to make a MOD or an actual model. @Logan54 GOOGLEDRIVE, MiG-25P Combat Employment Training Manual: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ox-Uy1T-RaiX3e26tZLEC-v40hXsKjoO/view?usp=sharing COURTESY OF @F-2, MiG-25PD (Iraqi) Combat Employment Manual: https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/MiG-25PD Flight and Combat Employment Training Manual-OCR.pdf MiG-25 PD (PDS) Interception Complex: https://www.docdroid.com/TpeBRok/mig-25pd-pds-combat-employment-manual-pdf https://disk.yandex.ru/d/OEpxqudk47SN5A Aircraft MiG-25P. 20. Just want to put this out there for anyone listening. I love the Idea of upgrading the FC3 Aircraft to modern DCS standards. I learned the A10A way back in the LocOn days and hope that the A10A from FC3 will also be upgraded to full fidelity. With the Iraq and Afghanistan maps coming it would be nice to have an A10A for historical context. I would definitely pay for it if it became available. The Mig-29A is a much needed REDFOR plane. So is the Su27 but I will not get my hopes up.

  25. With the announcement of the MiG-2A, I feel the need to reiterate my desire for a Cold War C model Eagle. It’s the perfect companion aircraft, and so much is already done. It looks like there is going to be a huge plane set for the late Cold War “soon,” in DCS terms anyway. The F-15C would fit right into it. It literally could have or did fight everything from the Fulcrum to the Tomcat. It’s a gold mine of a module just sitting there half completed as is. Think about it you could sell a 1980s C model then hit us with a small paid upgrade to a mid 2000s C with all the goodies. Just think about it.

  26. I understand that this airport is very far from important areas and it's not even easily shown in the F10 map, however there's some beautiful terrain around and I love to fly there. Well, since the last update, there's trees in the middle of the runway and what used to be a river just before the runway is now a river colored hill. Aerodromo O'Higgins has a similar issue, albeit less serious: some trees are very close to the runway and I am pretty sure that's not the case in real life. I don't think these issues have already been reported but I do apologize in case they have. Keep improving the map and happy new year! below two screenshots for reference

  27. Very cool DCS an beyond! MIG-29 was ovbious it has been teased for so long in previous DCS videos, sharing screen time with other full fidelity modules in most of the recent ed videos. I've watched Nick recent interviews and I know that DCS Dynamic Campaign is still far from release. But what about ground crew and ATC? Is DCS and beyond a hint to that? If I remember correctly the video has some yellow shirts passing command to another one. A more realistic ATC (like X-Plane, even old ones), JTACS, air commands and ground/sea crew is something that it's not as shinny as a new aircraft but IMO it's much more immersive than anything else. I mean we have all kind of navigation systems, but for what? We are currently the Kings and Queens of the game, all NPCs just vow to us when we want to do any manouver or whatever. Since the Dynamic Campaign wants to achieve a lot of things I'm not sure if ed wants to release all in one version release or progresively. Getting ATC and the other things before Dynamic Campaign it's also a way of keeping us entertained while the big project comes out, heheh. Well anyways, great job ed!! Until next DCS an beyond!

  28. ^ Apart from that, early type windscreen and windows behind canopy are dead giveaways. Yup, it's a -3, at least in that particular shot. But, with such small visual and flight model differences, we can always dream about both being implemented at some point (just like two Spits or three Jugs we've got right now).

  29. In general built in AWACS is very bad solution. It gives you nearest bandit without any understanding if tactical situation. The mission based 3rd party alternatives are not much better, often ruining the reality while having same issur as built in. For 29 it would be cool to allow another player to sit inside lazur cabin.

  30. Unless the current effect in DCS is only visual, I reckon this will be non-trivial to fix: the shovels opening later AND faster will have an effect on the trajectory of the bombs... That would mean pretty much every module in DCS that can use Snakeyes needs to have their ballistics computer updated...

  31. Yes! 1980s Late Cold War is going to be awesome in DCS, MiG-21bis, MiG-23MLA, MIG-29A, Su-17M, Mi-24P, Mi-8, L-39, Mirage F. 1, Tornado IDS, ~Viggen, Kfir, Gazelle L, F-4E, F-5E, F-14A/B, A-7E, A-6E, Huey, MB-339, C-101. Cold War Fulcrum fits perfectly. Only some USAF premiere fighter like F-15 or F-16 from the era will be missing. Thanks ED for making full fidelity Fulcrum.

  33. Speaking as a player myself (I'm not a dev or part of the DCS CH-47 project); although I do see the potential for how useful such things would be in a dynamic campaign as well as a multiplayer server, I think there are elements to logistics gameplay that are overlooked in all of this. There are many challenging conditions that can be created for CH-47 gameplay that are not reliant on directly seeing the results of your actions at the "real-time strategy" campaign level. For example, imagine that you are flying a CH-47 in the middle of the night under NVG's, banking and turning down among the trees on your way to assault an objective with a platoon of troops in the back, with three more CH-47's right behind you. You need to time your arrival perfectly so that you are touching down at the LZ right after a flight of AH-64's and A-10's begin striking targets in and around the objective. While enroute, you encounter enemy units that the Intel section didn't know about, and you need to dart down a different valley to avoid contact and devise an alternate route to the objective. Your copilot starts rapidly punching away on the CDU to re-calculate an alternate route around the enemy forces. You hit the gas and speed up because you need to be wheels down at the LZ at a precise, pre-coordinated time. Arrive too early and the enemy forces near the objective may detect and engage you. Arrive too late and the initial surprise of the AH-64 and A-10 strikes may have subsided and an enemy counterattack is mobilized, threatening your insertion into the LZ or your egress from the area. On top of that, the detour and higher speeds is now eating into your planned fuel reserves and you may need to divert to a closer FARP on the way back. And you're doing all of this while flying under NVGs at low altitudes, trying to not hit trees or wires, reacting to RWR warnings, glancing down at your ground speed and ETA at the LZ, etc. Anyway, that is just one example of how engaging and challenging a scenario may be outside of doubling as a ground force commander that is moving combat forces around the battlefield. I'm not saying that sort of gameplay doesn't also sound fun and interesting, but there are lots of scenarios that can be developed that can immerse the player into CH-47 operations. It just comes down to whether the gameplay of a given mission is more focused on simulating being a CH-47 pilot in itself, or being a means to bring about larger strategic effects in a large-scale environment. Both have their merits, depending on a player's preferences and interests.

  34. They made a comment about their next map not being desert and highly requested by the community, and ED saying they themselves will do vientam and Korea. Have made people assume OnReTech is doing Balkans. As it's either Balkans or cold war central Europe that is left based on those criteria

  35. Yep… given the gunnery accuracy in DCS… even the S-Boat and Type VII U Boat are very difficult to attack BUT - absolutely delighted to see these and CV-6. Great stuff ED (can we hope for some Fletchers…?)

  36. Systems will be completely redone of course! Cockpit model will surely be redone: The current cockpit looks decent, but it's not up to current high standards and ED would not be able to charge full price otherwise. I would guess the same for the external model, but with less confidence. The flight model however will not be redone. That was stated by Kate Perederko on discord.

  38. Calling it Iraq, when it's really just Baghdad is disingenuous and borderline false advertising. Like the Persian Gulf map. It's not. It's Dubai and Abu Dahbi and some other minor details. It should really be called UAE or Straight of Hormuz because that's the only part of the map that is filled in. Qatar and Oman are pretty significant parts of the PG and they are just not there and there seem to be no plans to include them. I kinda wish I could return it.

  39. Desert maps aren't really boring. For one thing, they aren't static and change with seasons, unfortunately ED hasn't modeled this since the Black Sea. See Iraq for instance: Note not only the changing vegetation, but the changes in bodies of water. These maps could be much more interesting if seasonal changes were modeled: Then you can also have events like flooding, dust storms, or wildfires. These things would not only improve desert maps, but all maps. Visuals aside, my personal opinion is map size and functionality beats all else. For that alone I'm glad to see Iraq if it includes the whole country along with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. That would make it a contender for best map to me, along with Kola.

  40. Now we will have more desert map than the others. DCS will stay Desert Combat Simulator. Historically, the map is ok, but it's another near the same area. We have Nevada, we have PG, we have Syria, we have Sinai and now Iraq. Isn't it really worth being a little more ambitious? Still no Vietnam or Balkans. I know desert maps are easier to make, but do we really need to only have the Caucasus made many, many & many years ago?

  41. Best. Day. Ever. I am so excited for Fulcrum. I remember seeing one as a little boy and it has been my favorite plane ever since. Your video brought that little boy out in me You have made my day, there was no better aircraft to develop. (Not even the 'my humps... my humps, my humps, my humps' 9.13) Don't listen to the partypoopers. They will look at a Spitfire and say with a straight face it's crap because it doesn't have AMRAMs On the down low, historically I just wish the design bureau gave us Air to Air Refueling Capabilities before the K variant Now there were 9-12 with retrofitted wing drop tanks that flew over Iraq... could reduce that 'Range Anxiety'

  42. For me the video was a not high surprise. Yes, of course I will buy the Mig29A if it comes with enough A/G weapons, even is a plane with low flight time because fuel consumption, but the Mig29A was talked about they were doing it for long time, so no real surprise (of course yes to be finally developed). The IRAQ map is a mehh for me, because even lots of wars has happened there, it is the greatest flat region in the world with lot of desert. When I flought it in MSFS I was sleeping in my cockpit. BUT if it comes with the mountains of IRAN up to TEHERAN, then mmmmm, that would be interestin! So lets see what ED has to say about it. I would preffer it more than going to the south to Kuwait. But would have liked to have more surprises, or at least advanced in modules we are waiting for long time. 1. Vietnam. Yes, it is going to be produced, but if it is not in the video, how long will be when we have it? I know it can be a third party development, but also the video shows 3rd parties. 2. Where is Afganistan? I would like to see it more than Iraq for the Apaches. Again as Point 1. how far is to be complete if not shown in the video (unless the first base shown is Kabul) 3. it has been said, about the dynamic campaign, and yes.. it is true it is already talked previously but we have been waiting looong time, and more will be I think. 4. Other type of clouds? cumulonimbus, other weather hazards? (pleaseeeeee upgrade that ugly fog system!!!) 5. Chinook is great, but I won't buy it unless there is a more strong logistics gameplay. But I belive that only will come with dynamic campaign. 6. The huge great surprise it would be it ED would announce an Abrams full fidellity tank with multicrew. I play Steelbeasts and I think it can be done great in DCS. Or a CA 2.0 Don't get me wrong! it is great to see such additions comming to DCS. Lots of new helicopters, planes and terrains, but for a person like me that has ALL the aircrafts and terrains developed in DCS, I think I need more gameplay comming, than more terrains, or aircrafts, that I will buy of course (if I have the enough money when they are released) and I think, also gameplay sells even more than new modules. Specially for new people (please!! fix the AI flying with you!!) Thanks in any case and happy 2024!

Then came Amiga with Gunship 2000, F-117 Nighthawk, Tornado and finally PC sims with Voodoo acceleration dozens of newer titles. The video you presented is jaw-dropping today and was something beyond wildest dreams in my early sim days.
