Hello Everyone, Thanks for the support I appreciate it very much. It keeps me pushing to create more 3D AI mods. JakeFlys I'm working on a few OPV 3d models as we speak. The Amazonas Class Patrol Boat, the Arafura Class, and also the Holland Class Patrol Boat. I tend to work on a lot of mods at once so sometimes I forget what I'm working on lol. Honestly, I work on mods now based on how I feel. When I'm feeling pretty good I try to work on as much as I can but I don't push myself too hard. I'm working on a Rebel or Suspect container ship along with the Hamina Class Missile Boat. Both are almost finished. Below is a photo of the Suspect vessel with missiles and bombs on deck. It is a low poly mod but it suits well for DCS. I added a rebel flag to it but I may change it before release. I had to create the RBS-15 anti-ship missile launcher for the Hamina because it don't come with the model. As you can see damage model is complete. The issue with the missile launcher is it doesn't lower. The code is from a vehicle mod. There is a way around it but I don't think it will be realistic. Hello Rascals with Squiggels, I'm not sure if there are ship models of those vessels out there. Maybe you can search around for them online. Thanks, McFly29 I haven't seen any issues since the update other than ships no longer have smoke from the stacks/exhaust. All the ships are loading and responding in DCS as they should at least on my end. Thanks all I will keep you posted. I will be releasing the mods below as soon as I run them through testing. Thanks for your support. Glad to hear you resolved the issue McFly29. Thanks for the update.11 points

Dear all, By default DCS uses OpenXR which is supported by Oculus. For Multithreading DCS we also have a native Oculus API available which can be enabled by adding --force_oculus_VR (Please ensure OpenXR is disabled, and you are using MT DCS.) Due to the priority order OpenXR driver is selected first (prior to v62 oculus update) this was working well, with Oculus v63 they broke OpenXR for DCS. As a work around users can use native oculus with --force_oculus_VR Target line example in properties "D:\DCS World OpenBeta\bin-mt\DCS.exe" --force_enable_VR --force_oculus_VR We do have a fix for the v63 driver coming in a future patch that will allow openXR to work correctly again for Oculus using the newer driver. ---------------------------------------- Please also note there is a steamVR oculus plugin work around found by @jaghammer here https://forum.dcs.world/topic/344539-native-oculus-api-and-dcs/page/2/#comment-5395501 ------------------------------------------ Virtual Desktop XR is also another work around being used by some users. Greetings Pilots! This is an AH-64D Apache Course is a simple but effective training mission that you can use to practice and improve your craft from being a "Zero" to a "Hero" on the digital battlefield. - There is no scripts so you never have to update anything. - Aircraft are set up so you can multicrew with a buddy if you want. - All aircraft are hot start, minus range 12. - Simple & Effective kneeboards - The mission is set up in 12 different ranges, each range has its own spawn. So if you want to do range 1, select the range 1 spawn. If you don't know how to do something check the kneeboard for the range you're on. - Each range you spawn into will give you a quick brief from range control. For example if you spawn on range 7, you'll be prompt to switch to the front seat and have George hover you at an altitude of 150ft. ——— RANGES ——— 1: Navigation Basic - Work your way through 5 waypoints that are pre-loaded into your TSD. 2: Navigation Advanced - Enter the given waypoints into your TSD and fly the route. 3: Landing & Hovering - Practice your landing and hovering, also has an obstacle course 4: Hellfires - Practice using the hellfire missiles from the CPG seat 5: IHADDS Rocket Range - Practice using the rockets with your IHADDS 6: Rockets Long Range - Practice long range rocket engagements from the CPG seat 7: IHADDS Gun Range - Practice using the gun while slaved to your IHADDS. 8: Guns Long Range - Practice long range engagements with the gun from the CPG seat 9: Positive Identification Range - Practice PID against similar looking vehicles. 10: Boats: This is your deck landing qualification (DLQ) Range. 11: Barrier Shooting: Fly behind cover & concealment and engage the enemy 12: Radios: Learn how to set up radio freqs If you're still learning the basics of flying the AH-64D Apache and want to continue using this mission, I highly suggest going to range 3: Landing & Hovering and follow BradMick's "AH-64D Flight lessons" playlist on youtube. —————————————————— - Check your kneeboard! - If you want to do a different range, go back to spectators and select a new range. - If you want to redo a range, restart the mission, and go back to the range. Made by: Tom P !!IF YOU HAVE ANY ISSUES PLEASE LET ME KNOW!! Once downloaded. DCS Drive(whatever drive your DCS is on) > Saved Games > DCS > Missions. And place my mission in there. Open DCS and select mission and play it. Enjoy Apache Course v2.miz *Edit* Had to readd the mission file4 points

I don't believe the current mod changes the view distance. The render distance of trees, building, etc. is controlled in the graphics.lua file which isn't included in this mod. DCS looks MUCH better with a higher render distance. ED really needs to increase the render distance options so we don't have to go into the config files. With 2.9.3 I have the view distance configured higher then I ever have and performance is amazing. Of course if you play in VR ignore all that and keep your view distance low.4 points

Hi, I had the same issue. I deactivated and deleted Normandy. (Although it's unified now, I'm on Open Beta branch at the moment.) Problem was I could not reinstall Normandy and it shows as an available purchase in Module Manager. I opened a support ticket. According to the instructions, I downloaded and put the bat file under DCS Open Beta source directory (Not "saved games"), ran the "bat" file of Normandy supplied by ED. ("bat" file can be found using this link https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B1FNNwU4xwU-Ti00QWE2cWF6c2s?resourcekey=0-mQ1c6i7FJmB_GEBjIY9pVg ) and run DCS again. (The bat file didn't worked on my first try so I suggest a PC restart before running it.) After that, Normandy 2.0 showed in my Module Manager for install and the "available for purchase" option is no longer there as it should be. Detailed instructions can be found under this ED support page on how to install addons missing in Module Manager. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/?add=Y Hope that helps.. Best regards. null4 points

I haven't touched Dora for years. I'm blown away by the recent audio update! (repaste from another post) https://forum.dcs.world/topic/344067-dcs-update-discussion-february-2024/ Part 2 of the Dora audio update is up! I have even recorded my own short stint. What an update! It's a pleasure to listen. You fly at 5000 m, dive to 4000 at a fixed throttle position, the airspeed increases and the engine audio reflects the different regime. It sings to you now! But there's much more. There have been some significant updates to the cockpit and liveries textures in the past 8 years. Are there any old Dora lurkers around to give a rough estimate on when that happened? Any other significant changes? I can see the cockpit frame is entirely new, all metal, for example. Any systems modeling updates? It has been confirmed that all of the DCS aircraft are going to receive a landing gear physics rework so another component for Dora on the way. Since Mosquito is the testbed for the project I assume WW2 A/C are going to be first in line for the update.3 points

I will mention it to Wags, but we need data to work with, as we have done for for all flight models. SME feedback is very helpful but not always accurate, which is why we rely on data more. If you have evidence that something is wrong please PM me. thank you3 points

Not sure who you've been discussing that with. I've seen exactly no-one defending the missiles going backwards. What we've said each and every time is that the missile kinematics, i.e. the motor performance and the aerodynamics are really close. The guidance however is lacking which makes the missile worse off than it should be due to that, but that also not really something a 3rd party can fix. The issue with the backwards lofting/firing missiles is due to how lofting in DCS works (at least with older missiles) and the fact that players have started to manually loft which wasn't really intended either in DCS or IRL. But no-one is defending that and it's not correct behavior, but again, also not something HB can fix on our own.3 points

Yeah, no. That may be true in anecdotic cases, but not in general. The general problem is, that software can be eye-watering complex and it is close to impossible to catch all bugs with a finite amount of developers and testers (and time and budget of course). Something like DCS has probably a 100 to a 1000 times more lines of code than a simulator 20 years ago. Also - from a business point of view. Developers can't wait for their salery until the last bug is squished. They would never receive their paycheck. And to pre-finance a developement nowadays is very hard. I wouldn't always project malicious intend into everything....3 points

When cold starting the F16 could we have the chocks in as default? Might help in some situations where people have alignment issues where the jet has moved a small amount either by rearmament or a cracked open throttle rolling the jet forward.2 points

To follow up with my comments to @Furiz on Discord (since not everyone may use it or monitor it religiously), I want to assure everyone that this is still underway and provide some clarity as to why it is taking so long. First off, the intent is not to simply correct the existing Early Access Guide, but to evolve it into the full DCS F-16C Flight Manual. When a module is early in development and a Quickstart Guide or an Early Access Guide is included, these are meant to ensure players can get into the module and start playing it, with the documents updated when able as the module evolves in early access. However, to fully appreciate the complexity of a modern aircraft such as the F-16, and to ensure players have access to a depth of knowledge equal to the complexity of the DCS simulation of this aircraft, a much more thorough document is required than an abbreviated guide. To that end, many elements of the F-16 Early Access Guide have been receiving new graphics and diagrams to explain the abstract concepts that many may find nebulous or confusing, which can be seen in the chapters that have already been revised or updated. As an example of such a concept, as alluded to in the discord image above, is the question of why a cursor slew in a pre-planned sub-mode such as CCRP slews all the steerpoints and offset aimpoints at the same time. It is important to not only illustrate what is truly happening when the CURSOR/ENABLE switch is used to slew the steerpoint location, but why it is happening and why such a function is even relevant in such a scenario. The intent with each update to the manual is to provide quality content and revisions. Unfortunately, it has taken longer than intended, as the F-16 manual is not the only document that has needed updates/revisions, but it is the main focus regarding manual updates at the moment. The Tactical Employment chapter will be the most important chapter to get right, since it explains the core of how the F-16 was designed to fight.2 points

I was disappointed too, as ED own the engine and so are able to do something much better than what I did. They didn't copy the mod 1:1, more like re-implemented it natively and at a lower level in the engine, with a couple improvements. I've detailed out my impressions and differences I've noticed in this post. The new spotting is an improvement over what was in the game before, but I'd like to see them go much further and make something better. The official line is that the current system will be looked at, but there has been no communication beyond that, nor any clue as to what their intent is or what they even see as the issue to be fixed.2 points

You should still be able to use a launch app, or make your own shortcuts for even the Steam Version. Navigate to your Steam Library folder <drive><root>\SteamApps\Common\DCS World\bin-mt\ Make a shortcut for DCS.exe Add the arguments. "x:<root>\steamapps\common\DCS World\bin-mt\DCS.exe" --force_enable_VR ----force_oculus_VR or simply add "--force_enable_VR --force_oculus_VR" to the launch arguments in steam.2 points

I understand what you're saying. However, I don't think that excuses need to be made for why it's not accurate. This is something very simple to fix because of the way the paint kit is setup. The brightness and coloring should be fixed, and sounds like it is, so kudos to Lee1hy for taking that to heart. This is my rendition of Have Glass V. I felt like I got pretty close to the look. HG V isn't just a dark color it has a translucent/diffused finish in bright lighting. There is a common error of thinking that all the dark colored F-16s are HG. They are not. Some are just painted darker or lighter. Doesn't mean they have the HG treatment. You can also see the small amount of grit in the normal all over which adds to the effect. These were all made for the v57th. This is all the same HGV textures just in different lighting conditions or angles. 2 other people that have got the look right IMHO are Roughmaster and Texac.2 points

I was also impatient and went ahead with removing openbeta from my directory names, both for the main install folder as well as Saved Games. One thing to add to the above steps is that after renaming the "Saved Games\DCS.openbeta" to "Saved Games\DCS", you need to edit the "dcs_variant.txt" file (under the main install folder) and remove the word "openbeta" and save it (essentially a blank file.) Without this step, DCS keeps looking for DCS.openbeta folder and when finds none, it creates its own empty one. I suppose this can apply for Stable release too which the file includes the word stable as oppose to openbeta.2 points

Ahoi @ex81 , die Tracks solltest Du nach dem Speichern in Gespeicherte Spiele/DCS/Tracks finden. Also C:\Users\{Dein-Benutzername}\Saved Games\DCS\Tracks2 points

There is: Simply browse to C:\Program Files\Oculus (or where you installed your application) Rename folder \Staging to bak.Staging Rename folder \tmp to bak.tmp Create a new file called Staging (with no extension) Create a new file called tmp (also, no extension) This blocks the update. When there is an update, you still get a notification that there is an update and that it is in progress but if you check it's queued and the update will be blocked. Just reverse the steps and restart the app to let the update go through.2 points

Its many moons ago since I Flew the bracket IRL (and then on a land based A model) however its new behavior is much better and a lot closer to how I remember it to be. The intent is to trim straight to On speed AOA then leave the trim alone. With smooth coordinated power and pitch input you can easily remain on speed with the VV on the required aimpoint. After Lot 20 entry date a software update was incorporated across the F18 fleet that actually displayed your exact "trimmed AOA" in the HUD. This to make it easier for the pilot to rapidly and precisly trim to On speed AOA. This occurred with LG down Flaps full and you trimming. So basically you just trimmed until you saw 8.3 and thats it you are exactly trimmed to On speed AOA.As soon as you stop trimming the digits disappear. We don't have this luxury in game but a little mod in the Flt controls indicator.LUA can achieve the exact same thing .. a direct trim ref to On Speed AOA. This is a little variation of Rackman's " F/A_18C controls Indicator scales for trimming". The mod simply puts a reference mark on the in game Flight controls display that indicates 8.3 degrees AOA. So just trim till the white + is abeam the reference marks and thats it trimmed precisely to on Speed.... no guesswork required. It passes the IC . Just needs to be copied in after every update. IMHO all such effects like cockpit reflections, glare, scratches, should be an option that the player can disable or tune. There is just such a wide spread of quality and function between them, also depending on whether you're using VR and other graphical settings. Some of these effects look good and are welcome, and some look really bad, or don't work correctly. A lot of the older modules simply don't hold up graphically, and look outdated, out of place, or their appearance has changed because of core updates in unintended ways. Off the top of my head, the F-5 cockpit glare makes it impossible to see in VR. Similarly for OP's examples. Glass scratch effects looks bad on many modules, and appears suddenly based on lighting and zoom. In the F-86, if you're facing the light in the wrong way and zoom in, all you see is scratches. Ideally these effects would be implemented in a uniform way across modules, I understand the reasons they're not, but if so, give us the option to turn it off. If the concern is balance or fairness, people who really want to get rid of this can use a modded cockpit with an invisible canopy anyway. The problem with this is the tedium and effort to make or find these mods. I also want to be able to choose the effects that look good and realistic for my setup on a module by module basis. And with different modules having different effects, it's not "fair" anyway.2 points

Aircraft only auto trims to 1G when the flap switch is set to auto. With Gear and Flaps down it's more trying to nullify pitch rate instead of targetting a specific G load. And you are correct. Airspeed should be the last thing you look at when getting the jet on speed. The VV and the E-Bracket are the most important, while airspeed is almost entirely dependent on your gross weight.2 points

I'm going to necro this thread because I stumbled on this mission just last week and I want to point it out to folks who may have missed it. @Looking Glass, thank you for putting this together. I am sure this took a significant amount of time to get the timings all right. I've flown it twice now and the mission performed flawlessly. If anyone is looking for a fun flight/tour around the Caucasus region alongside some RAF Tornados, you can't go wrong with this mission. The immersion created by the voiceover actor is really compelling. For anyone interested, I recorded my flight so you can see what the mission is like (flown in VR). I changed the default time of year from winter to fall in the ME. I highly recommend this mission as a nice change of pace to slinging ordinance. Definitely worth the 45 minute time investment.2 points

Hey @IronMike I figured I would resurrect this thread instead of making a new one for the same question. But now that the F-4 is getting close to the finish line, and that is obviously yalls top priority, but once that is released into EA, will there be any hope that the Early F-14A and ALR-45 update will be coming relatively soon after that? Or will the focus be on updating the F-4 along with Jester 2.0 and trying to integrate as much of the new F-4 coding into the existing F-14 A/B that we have in game, with the Early F-14A and Iranian models coming later. Thanks!2 points

as someone who studied and listened to various Iranian fighter pilot interviews I can tell that there is a misconception about level of skill of Iraqi Air Force. Iraqis were very skilled and experienced pilots they had powerful radar networks including good GCI allowing them to fly deep within Iran. they had plenty of good combat experience against Israel even more combat experience than Iranian pilots, based on interviews with former Iranian SIGNIT/ELINT officers of Iran, their GCIs somehow could get intel on presence of an F-14s in some instance which led to dozens of mission abort for Iraqi side. it was very very common that lots of Iraq planes jettisoned their bombs as soon as locked by an F-14 (commonly mentioned, mentioned by Shahram Rostami as well) they performed cooperative maneuvers to evade and destroy a considerable number of Iranian radar installations, which led to Iranian air defense units work together with the air force, The Operation Fath Ol Mobin proved cooperation of air defense and air offense can be game changer sometimes. anyway back to the topic , Iraqis also had their own techniques of evading the F-14 and AWG-9 (as described by one of our former pilots whose name I forgot) i.e performing ZigZag which we call Cranking to the left and right but interesting part is, these maneuvers did not help them as they got close as below 20 nautical miles, missiles fired within that range had a really good PK and I don't remember reading somewhere they miss within that window, except Colonel Mazandarani's Phoenix was missed because he fired the phoenix at a fast and cold target despite it was within 15nm range and he almost got detained for that. interesting part is they have done lots of these tactics using the old SPO-10 RWRs , they heavily relied on their GCI as EWRs however. Iraqis also used ECM a lot, the most powerful Jammers used by Iraqi airforce were the ones used on their Mirage-F-1s, these jammers managed to disable many of our HAWK systems but due to the fact that the ground based radar installations were exposed to hot and humid weather, based on interviews and mentions in Tom Cooper's book ; the Iraqis used very advanced ECMs against AWG-9 but the it could easily counter the jam and do it's job without any issue. I don't really like the way some people want to represent the phoenix as a slow fat brick only able to crash into straight flying big bombers. Phoenix is a very capable missile, and it is proven to be a very good and reliable weapon against agile fighters even in DCS with current state. regarding missile kinematic performance I have almost 0 data to verify how accurate it is performing vs real life but I believe the PK of DCS Phoenix will significantly improve once we get a much realistic or advanced missile API. personally I manage to fire the phoenixes against AI above 30k feet and Mach 0.9 and I always get +90% PK, I also have a good PK with it down on the deck , if fired within NEZ I always score a kill (~7nm). If you guys are interested in hearing first hand memories of our Iranian Tomcat pilots I highly suggest you to follow this youtube channel , it is in Persian but using a powerful AI service such as Gboard you can translate and use the details provided in this channel : Alireza Hamzei is a retired F-14 test and instructor pilot he has a youtube channel and he used to interview veteran pilots of Iran-Iraq War : https://www.youtube.com/@AlirezaHamzei/videos the content or the details shared by our veterans are valid they are not propaganda bold claims because Iranian national airforce was always opposed by Islamic leadership, the leaders always treated as our airforce pilots with poor trust and always disregarded their credits, they gave all the credits to the IRGC and corrupt IRGC officers who were poorly trained with awful results in war, they always insulted and discredited by IRGC and religious figures so it was their own benefit to share the public non but honest reports to gain the true reputation they deserve. I'm so sorry for the long message but I hope it helps the community. Sincerely2 points

I will say I’ve noticed that in order to get the pitching deck scene in PBS’s “Carrier” documentary and other videos I’ve scene, you have to have the winds so high you couldn’t fly in them…does seem unrealistic to have a 25kt wind and no swell..just choppy waters. For my to get a extremely pitching deck I have the winds set to extremely high2 points

Neither have I. I have heard from mechanics that the probe door mechanism can get damaged if it's operated above 270 knots so next time I'll edit that mission and slow down the tanker, to see if it makes a difference. In other aircraft (notably the F-16 and F-15E) different tanking airspeeds make a huge difference (for better or worse) in controllability of the jet, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case for the F-18 as well.1 point

This is not my experience - the Crystal is way ahead of any headset i have every looked through and is leaps beyond the Reverb G2 or Quest 2/3 compressed data. Something somewhere isn't right with your setup, or a defective headset. Simply put the Pimax Crystal is sharper, clearer, jaw dropping colour representation and a generational leap than any other headset i have seen with DCS (and been using DCS with VR since DK1 days and onto my 8th headset). The only gripe i have with it, ergonomics which had to really play around witht he headset face interface (on another post), its very poor to say the least, the worst out the box of any and currently using the back of a Quest 2 elite headstrap as a top skull distribition and secure fitting, its not ideal. Its very poor and also the weight distribution and lack of counter balance. But the clarity, and view, yea staggering how far consumer VR has come even in the last 4 years.1 point
