First post updated. If I find new 3D model, I will implement it. Tu-22KD with missile: Kh-22 AshM, ARM and land attack (pinpoint task). Powerfull missile but low accuracy. Also bomb loadout available. Eject anims and collision will be updated soon https://www.mediafire.com/file/g2znzpydlj3b7zk/Tupolev_Tu-22KD%2BD.rar/file7 points

I was very skeptical of the OH58, thought it would not really offer much more than we already have with the AH64 or other Helos but I've found I really enjoy working with the sensors and searching for targets, setting up Target Points, etc. I didn't expect the systems to be modeled so far in depth, in reality I think there is a point where the developers dive so deep that most of the effort is wasted on details most of us will never really use ie "Offsets" etc. Poly has done a deep dive and I can appreciate it in this module. As for the textures, I have no issues with them, they look good enough for me but I'm old school, I prefer a good flight model over how many pixels a texture contains. Flight model, I think Poly went with the more stable side of the equation and I think that is a good choice. The stability opens up helicopters to a large audience that might be frustrated because they don't own the big end hardware or long throws that allow for the fine inputs that helicopters demand. I'm all for getting more people interested and flying the helicopters in DCS. I might have been drinking when I decided to buy the OH58 but I have no regrets so far other than the AI autopilot and it's need for too many keybinds that hopefully will be worked with in the future.7 points

I have been doing some of the training missions and provided missions and have a big gripe......NO VOICEOVERS!!!! Just on screen text......Whats that all about? With many many community made missions having really great immersion adding voiceovers and every new model released apart from this with voiced training missions, I am really surprised Polychop have not done this.....and still have the front to charge $70....... I love flying the Kiowa, and it has many good points.......but given the sound and texture issues already discussed, I think its overpriced and had I tried before I purchased, I would likely NOT have done so at this price point. Polychop, please dont take the piss with us and sort the issues in a future patch sometime soon.........6 points

Stuff looks great. Testing has gone well with my "Cold War" update. Many thanks to roobarbjapan and RichCotte and any others that have helped out. Really looking forward to the model updates but I've been having a blast with the old ones . All ships have received radar and weapons updates based on Admiral's and Currenthill's excellent work. New SAM types covering the 1960s through the mid 90s and most guns have been made dual purpose (air/surface) if they were not already. If you'd like to help with the final round of tests PM. And once again, many thanks to the Admiral for all the great past and future content6 points

I guess if KW hadn't dropped, there'd be no news at all this week. This is a good year for DCS, all things considered, and we're right in middle of a heavy release cycle between kola/F4/KW/Chinook/Afghanistan and who knows what else, if anything...yet somehow the weekly newsletters keep getting lighter, with less content per week5 points

So I may be a little late, but I've had a hell of a lot of work this week. Okay, so I just bought the OH-58D and did a few laps with it. I can only say one thing, folks, in case you're wondering whether you should buy this heli, do it. Don't hesitate. Not only is the Kiowa incredibly fun, everything about this module is just great. So, a clear recommendation to buy for anyone who is still thinking about it. Do it, you definitely won't regret it. ED is currently churning out the modules like there's no tomorrow. Good. I wish it would continue like this forever. As much as I want the Razbam thing to be sorted out, we just can't forget that summer 2024 is absolutely glorious for DCS. Thanks ED and a big fat thank you to the 3rd party developers who are really delivering right now. Big thumbs up - I am happy!!!4 points

If you have ever submitted a mission to ED's use files, you may have seen this happen to your mission as well: After you have lovingly crafted a mission and decided to share it with the community, you head over to ED's user files section, and create a new submission. To submit your mission, you are required to fill out a form (which, let's be honest, asks a number of rather silly questions that the submission code could gather itself it it was written by some competent author). You go ahead and enter your mission's description and summary - some free text that I'm sure most of us also craft carefully. We enter the text, and then, after dotting the "i" and crossing all "t", we submit the mission. What the average mission contributor doesn't know is that while submitting your mission, the submission script runs a check on the free text that the author submitted as mission description. That check is not aimed at making the description look better. No, in a lame, last millennium attempt at curbing code injection, it rips apart some key words. So if your mission description contains words like "until" or "from" (and some others), they have a blank inserted: "from" becomes "fr om" etc. It makes the contributor look stupid, and worse, it makes them appear careless and incompetent. While the threat posed by code injection is real, I do believe that ED has the chops to mitigate it in a more apt, and less intrusive manner than the 1992 sledgehammer approach we see today. I know it's a small thing, but I find it highly frustrating to first write something to share with the community, only to have it so callously and incompetently vandalized by last century's functionality. Thank you.3 points

Operation Dixmude was first introduced to DCS via the Gazelle. It remains one of the best default campaigns in DCS to date. I intend to recreate the magic with the OH-58D Kiowa Operation Argonne Campaign. If you have played through the original campaign, you know why! The Kiowa working side by side with the Apache is a dream come true! There is even some L2MUMS action! The conversion is complete! Get it here! https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3338637/ While you are at it, feel free to try out my UN Pilot Hind Conversion. Another fantastic DCS campaign, originally made for the Huey! https://forum.dcs.world/topic/276057-un-pilot-mi-24p-hind-campaign-huey-campaign-conversion3 points

Huh. I don't know if or how that kind of paranoia would help you. I mean, ED could officially announce "the bestest ever". Would that change your mind and purchase? Why? Are there guarantees that the words will be kept? Announcements rarely change anything. I have the Kiowa. It's worth every penny IMHO. The module's worth to me will not change no matter what some other company announces. The dispute between ED and RB is unprofessional on so many levels, and helps no-one. I recommend we ignore it and look the facts. To me, fact is a wonderful module from PC that can be had at this very moment. And yeah, I also own the Mudhen, and the Hawk. I still bought the Kiowa. Slow learner? You decide -- while I try to stop grinning taking the Kiowa through Beyruth's streets.3 points

That's been true ever since they started getting severely punished for putting actual news in newsletters. Since then they mostly recap what already happened this week, or add something with no discernible deliverable, and I can't blame them even if I'm not fond of the change.3 points

People are funny... It is a customer's right to complain and ask for reiteration where it is due. It is very logical to ask for explanation when a module releases at $70, yet retains basic quality issues. Overall, the OH-58D is solid in terms of systems, FM and features. In terms of textures and sounds, those things are not bugs. They are apparently underprovided. If one looks at the complexity of AH-64D or any other module at that price range, then KW is both smaller (physically), far less advanced in terms of systems, and generally has fewer aspects to consider (integration of external DL and such - L2MUM is a good example here). If disagreeing with a thread, it's very easy to move on without responding, or feeling the need to express oneself. It is, thanks to demanding customers, that sound will get revised now. It also does point to Polychop taking a dangerous approach regarding quality-only-per-request. If better accoustics were initial plan, then they would be in it at release. Therefore, recognizing that the overall module is very good, but falling somewhat short of $70 in comparison to what you get elsewhere, let's hope that shortcuts in development will not be the new norm. To those who still disagree; your welcome! Free passangers benefitting off the diligence of others! Orherwise, if you are on the edge - don't worry, it's a good product, but it will truly shine when the above gets mitigated.3 points

There are definitely some former-military-pilots-turned-youtuber who are in it for the views and to have their egos stroked basically. Casmo is not one of those people.3 points

Happy Friday everyone. Although, every day is the weekend when you're retired. Thanks, Beldin, I was not aware of that line item. I was aware of it but didn't know the meaning of it. I will test it out to see how well it works. Beldin, you always have some inside DCS information. Good to know info. I will make that edit in future mods as well Eddie. Well, i need to test it first to see what distance works best. Great photos everyone. I worked those ships once in Japan. They handle pretty well. Powerful engines. I am finishing up the Bergamini FREMM Class Frigate textures. I think I've gotten the hang of Substance Painter texturing. As mentioned I'm keeping the textures simple because I have too many mods to work on. Next is the weapon animation and coding. It's been slow because of aches and pains but I keep it moving as much as I can.3 points

Version 2.2.5 - Multi-Feature Update It's been on my to-do list for a *very* long time. Now, after implementing a number of new modules for "Expansion", I saw that this module wasn't nearly as problematic as I feared, and within a few days I had the newest addition to the DML Family: "Reaper". It allows you, with next to no configuration, to place Reaper (or Predator) type drones on the map that automatically lase targets in range. But the reaper module is only the small update. I'm currently working on two DML showcases, and it's making DML better almost by the hour: The "Marianas Training Grounds", due to a severe overflow of cool things that players can do, forced me to re-cut one of the DML crown jewels, and required me to finally put into reality changes to a module that I had been thinking of for ages: One of DML's crown jewels, the radioMenu module has just become exponentially more powerful: it now allows one level of indirection, allowing you to group multiple (up to ten) radioMenus under a single radioMainMenu - while retaining coalition/type/group granularity! Booyah! Not only that - a host of purpose-built modules like CSAR Manager, scribe, reaper (yes, reaper!) and some others can also tap into the radioMainMenu fun!

I can't speak to what happened after I left the community in July 1998 In 8 years flying the OH-58D/D(I), I never used or even had binos with me. I also never saw anyone else use them. Not to mention, binos would have been completely useless at night. Again, maybe they used them in COIN ops after I left, but in my mind looking through 7x glass bouncing around in the helicopter would not be effective. In DCS, I guess you could use the zoom view axis to "simulate" binos. That would capture the essence of using them and allow the developer to spend time on something like MPSMs or flechettes, which I am sure you will enjoy waaaaay more than binos...trust me.2 points

Today we were fortunate to receive another large cache of fuselage inspection panels and cockpit consoles and parts which are required to complete the sim build. I can deal with the textures and animation modeling for now. Though I really hope they plan on refining them and adding a few more animations?! I just can't get past the sounds, or lack thereof, they're REALLY REALLY bad. The .50 arm and recock is ok, but firing it sounds like someone shooting vinyl siding with an airsoft rifle. Ground idle on ext view isn't too bad just kinda low and needs a little bit of bass, but internally sounds like a street sweeper truck. The in flight sound is just a disaster, it's like a car from the Jetsons, but with a dead cylinder. It's a fun little module, but $70 is REALLY HIGH for the mod. Hopefully they'll hear the community and it'll get the, Gazelle treatment.2 points

That's good to know, thank you for sharing your opinion, which appears to be an outlier. Now, it would help many of us if we could see how your assertion can be better understood, put in context. Because, at this point, it would be akin to me saying "my personal opinion of freshly baked cinnamon rolls is that they are horrible". It may be a true from my personal taste, but it's hardly something that has wider meaning outside my own personal sphere. Hmm. Isn't that a non-sequitur in the context of DCS? All DCS modules here are imitations. You come a bit across like someone who has an axe to grind and who doesn't mind being a bit scatter-brained only to throw some shade on a product. Is everything all right?2 points

I do, I argue with those not adult enough to take responsibility for their own choice of buying it. We talk about 15$ max in difference. Not millions like some seems to think. The rivetcounting and search for breaches in fm is mind blowing. It’s like they bought it just for the fun of whining. I have abandoned most fb DCs groups because of these whiners and angry buyers. Truth is, many are crusaders looking for a just cause to fight a battle. This is not a chopper I expected to be my favorite, but it is growing on me. I will fly it and learn it and enjoy it hopefully. But I fly it like a chopper. Of course it got its flaws. Huey still got its flaws, who expected it to be without them? Anyone?2 points
