Und ohne Tank ... tja, wie hieß es immer so schön in unseren Briefings für die NATO: "The FULCRUM is the ideal point defender, as long as the point to defend is the own air base."

If you are at @simgamingexpo in Chicago this weekend, you'll be able to try this short mission and see how it goes. You will also have an opportunity to meet & greet the head of the @airplane_simulation_company developing the Hercules for DCS by Eagle Dynamics and talk to JTAC RIFLE, who spent a lot of time flying the C-130 during his numerous deployments! Oh, and @ultrasaurustv will also be there, as well as yours truly (Baltic Dragon)."

  11. @Floyd1212, Thank you for those supportive words and sharing a sentiment that has been brewing inside for some time. Please read along! @BIGNEWY, I digress from the main topic for a moment to address these sentiments stirring from within and as Floyd1212 kindly shared. Allow me to share my passion and support with the following: 1. I own just about EVERY module, terrain, asset pack. The few that I don't own are the Christen Eagle, MiG-19, and Hawk. I currently have 2 modules on pre-order. 2. I am one of those passionate players who support Eagle Dynamics and other third party developers. Not a day goes by without friends & family hearing me preaching from the gospel of DCS World. 3. I created a virtual squadron and rent a Fox3 server to host unit events. We play on a weekly basis and enjoy the camaraderie that often comes from military veterans. I am a proud veteran and many of my squadron-mates are also vets. This is where we go to "unplug" or decompress after a stressful week at work. 4. The modules that I fly the most are the F/A-18C Hornet and the AH-64D Apache. I would say that the hours spent in the Apache has surpassed the hours of time spent in the Hornet. Fun fact: I worked on the F-14A/B/D Tomcat and F/A-18C Hornet for many years. So you could say that I know a thing or two about these aircraft. 5. I own a few pieces of kit to help support my DCS "habit" such as WinWing F/A-18 Throttle, Stick (plus the F-16EX grip), Virpil rudder pedals, TrackIR, Cubesim monitors, and Cougar MFDs. All of these devices yield a benefit that I take full advantage of, chiefly to aid my aging eyes. 6. I have the pleasure of fixing several issues with the core and module-specific bugs. Three that come to mind: Constant heat seeker tone when playing as a MANPAD unit in Combined Arms, base coordinate error in the South Atlantic map, and the F/A-18C Pilot survival rate(*). Many of these bugs were left untouched for 9 months or past 1 year after being "fixed". As I recall, the IR tone for the MANPAD was supposedly fixed 1 year before I re-addressed the topic. Here's a 4th change: I was also responsible for pushing for a change in how sound files are stored in the mission files. Before, certain sound files would arbitrarily reset. That's like playing a game of whack-a-mole in a large multi-player mission! * - You fought me and other clients tooth and nail - claiming the pilot survival rate was perfect. It was FINALLY changed after an outcry from several Hornet players and supplying data to back it up. 7. While I don't play DCS every day, a large part of my weekends - Thurs through Sun revolve around playing in one of my squadron multi-player missions. It's not uncommon for me to fly for 6+ hours per day. 8. There feels like there is an "Us vs Them" mentality when it comes to reporting bugs. It appears the stance from any ED team member is denial of a problem or at least deflecting the problem to a user-induced problem. I'm sure there's data that may prove casual users induce many problems. For many years (and still ongoing), ED counts on a core of passionate players to submit bug reports or suggestions to make each module better. Which was the reason to have an Open Beta branch. However, constantly saying "there's no problem here" or to dismiss a bug/suggestion because I represent a small percentage of players is flatly a slap in the face. Your model for improvement was centered on player feedback. 9. I believe that a module dies from a thousand "paper cuts". I mean to say that while a module may provide a lot of features, there are fine cracks that can be easily seen when looking beyond the casual player's mentality. Here is where attention to detail will spell success or failure for a module. Hey, I want to do X...too bad. Not supported. Why is feature Y broken? You represent a minority so don't hold your breath for us to fix it. Oh, an update just broke my helicopter. Each time I start the aircraft, the CPG windshield wiper turns on and will not shut off (where have I seen that problem manifest?). 10. ED needs players like myself and Floyd1212 to identify bugs and provide invaluable feedback to improve each module. I have ranted long enough. There are a few more points that I wish to address but this is long in the tooth already. Please do not misconstrue my talking points as a personal attack or making ED appear to be the bad guy. That is far from the case. I wish to point out some examples as a learning process. I am always available to talk via DM, Discord, email, and/or experience my squadron. Send a DM if you would like to set something up. Getting back to the AH-64, I really believe ED hit one out of the park when this module was initially released. If it supplanted my time in the F/A-18C Hornet (and knowing my background) then that's one HUGE compliment! There are many small improvements that need to be made to make it a superior module. Dare I say it should be a flagship module! Making adjustments to the TEDAC display is one and wrangling GeorgeAI is another avenue for improvement. But dealing with GeorgeAI is a topic for another thread! How's that for passion and support? Now, for a little humor and to paraphrase Pulp Fiction: can we, pretty please with sugar on top, fix the effin' Apache?

  12. The main problem here is how we continuously get "realism" upgrades without any fundamental game upgrades to deal with the increased realism, further contributing to the "Digital Cockpit Simulator" problem that the customers have been complaining about for the better part of a decade. How is this damage modeling going to work with the dynamic campaign where unscripted CAS scenarios are going to be involved? Currently the only way to simulate CAS is to have everything so scripted where the friendly units are set to immortal, enemy units are set to invisible, and the friendly units are set to "fire at point" somewhere in the general vicinity of the enemy to create a fake CAS atmosphere. In short, we've got more realistic bombs operating in an arcade system.

  13. Without getting too into the weeds on this issue just step back and think about the big picture. Could the R2800 possibly have achieved the reputation for reliability it had if it worked like it currently does in the Corsair? I suggest people fly the P47 module that ED did and compare the two. I particularly like that the ED radials offer audible feedback about operating out of limits, and have partial failures or will fail overtime rather than always instant and total failure. You can fail the P47s engine, but it puts up with a lot before it quits, matching its reputation.

  15. I was listening to something the other day and learnt that on the flight Dimbleby flew and reported on, his Pilot was Gibbo. I’ll have to read Enemy Coast Ahead again for a refresher. He should never have been asked to even begin forming 617 when he was asked to. He’d done more than enough already and was pretty battered. Amazing what some of those fellas went through. Looking through the thread a bit, just reposting this one (with gunners ). Best regards team

  16. I don't want to go into every exact detail but I have been fortunate to gain real world flight time in four warbirds since 2013. Twice, under unusual insurance conditions, I have flown real F4U-Ds (once in 2022 for 1.3 hours and once in 2024 for 1.5 hours {Obviously, I am not the owner of said Corsair.}). I can easily and definitively say that the F4U-D as it presents in DCS as of Sept of 2025 is not very close with respect to the flight model for a real F4U-D. Major differences include: 1 - The real F4U-D is nowhere, ... and nohow, ... as twitchy as the Magnitude 3 version. All the axes are more stable but most notably, pitch. 2 - While you do have to trim regularly in a real F4U-D, it is not the Tamagotchi situation that presently occurs with the DCS version. 3 - The well known left wing drop is not as bad in the real F4U-D. 3 - I can easily say that the real F4U-D is much faster, ... and subjectively much faster feeling, ... than the DCS version. (It's a f ........ throaty beast, ... and not just subjectively.) 4 - The 13 foot prop is much louder and throatier than the affair in DCS. 5 - While careful attention to engine management is crucial to success in the real F4U-D, the unusual engine seizures and characteristics currently of the DCS version are not correct. Now, I don't mean to drop a turd in the punchbowl and then run for the exits but I am not even a participating member of this forum (by my own choice). I just had not seen any comments from real warbird pilots and wanted to make a contribution. Lastly, I want to say that I am appreciative of Magnitude and time they have spent on this model. I know things will be fine tuned in the months and years ahead. Thanks for your work Magnitude!

  18. I had my first longer session with the Super and DCS after my summer break yesterday. Tracking on my platform was fine at the beginning but gradually got worse as the session went on. I’ve read somewhere that taking off the headset can worsen tracking results, and I can confirm that from my own experience. So, tracking starts out fine - but once the headset is taken off a few times during a session, things deteriorate, and I just don’t understand why. Overall, I’m still happy with the Super. The tracking issues aren’t bad enough to make the headset unusable, but they are definitely quite annoying.

  21. Correct, but they "can" incapacitate someone within 425m, through fragmentation. The current issue is that blast does damage to all objects inside the blast distance, instead of only a certain percentage. The biggest issue I see currently is, that bombs trigger other bombs in the air through blast damage. This definitely needs adjustment. But the correct approach is to adjust the damage dealt and set distance thresholds for bombs being triggered. Not reverting back to the old damage model where a bomb designed to level a couple buildings barely scratched some vehicles 50m from the impact... As for the concept of Risk Estimate Distances, we need to learn that RED with a PI 10 of 250 meters means you do NOT drop a live Mk-82 bomb closer than 250m to friendly forces and expect no blue on blue casualties, at least in real life. You may drop danger close (inside PI 0.1), if the ground commander takes the responsibility and accepts potential harm to his soldiers or civilians, but that's still a certain risk many NATO countries wouldn't accept...

  22. Hey, herzlich willkommen!

  28. As explained in the manual (chapter Mission Editor), the NVGs are there for people who want to make non-historical missions or perhaps a modern conflict, forced to use an old aircraft, or similar. Could also be important for server owners who offer multiple aircraft in a night mission. DCS is a sandbox, so the mission author can decide if NVG is allowed or not for their mission. As you said, NVG were never used on our F4 model within the timeframe it was used by the US.

  32. If you're not providing updates and you're not giving owners of early access modules a response when they ask what development is being done, then the module is effectively abandoned. This module is dated before its even been completed. Why should people keep buying EA modules if this is how development is going to go. It's the same with the supercarrier, just endless early access.

  37. Hey! They are both guided precision strike munitions. And since they are pretty accurate, they will hit close to the target spot. If you want to hit a wider area, which is preferable with the cluster munitions, just create several 'Fire at Point' tasks with one round per launch. Make sure to spread them around the area you want to hit.

If not, make a Backup from your Savegames-Folder and just install a fresh DCS from the Installer on the homepage/downloads on your new drive. With the old Savegames-folder in place, DCS will be the same as always,m once all you paid modules are loaded.

  48. The new sounds are less than impressive. The same sound is produced equally from the sides and back in front of the nozzles. Cutting to the front those sounds disappear and you are left with a sound sample that has very audible clues that loop, that are jarring. The planes should sound different from the side- the front and the back, and the crossfading between these should be soft and overlapping to make a realistic sound picture. This does not. Hardly any audible difference between idle and full mill from the side. The Hornet and Viper (and I am sure others) does this VERY well. The old AB sound has audible clues (you can hear it looping) still. The Tomcat still has absent sound when you press fly-by the first time (It pops in after a few seconds). This is an age old issue that ONLY the Tomcat has and has had since day 1. Before someone comes to smack me around for daring to fault HB; I think Heatblur is THE premiere 3rd party developer and love how they push the envelope. That said; sound wise after a "full rework", I still think it needs tuning....
