KCOOL Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 (edited) 4090 users, is Nvidia control panel important or not for you in DCS 2.9? I know max power, but what about other options? x16 in control panel vs in game? Anisotropic sample optimization? Off or on? Negative LOD bias? Allow or clamp? Quality or Performance? Trilinear optimization on or off? Any other non-default setting? Do all this really matter for DCS 2.9? Thanks! Edited October 22, 2023 by KCOOL 1

twistking Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 Did anyone notice any improvments to the distance to which aircraft external lights are rendered? It's my biggest pet peeve (i'd argue, it's more than a peeve actually, since it does have a significantly detremental effect on gameplay and immersion for flying at night, especially with older aircraft) and i cannot check for myself, since i'm a very stable guy. Anyhow, have you noticed improvments? Ext lights rendererd out further generally? Hornet's ext lights being not being huge glowing orbs anymore perhaps? Improvments to spotting of carrier meatball etc. ? ... My improved* wishlist after a decade with DCS *now with 17% more wishes compared to the original

I didn't mess around with settings much and left most of them as I had them in 2.8. Of all new things, I replaced MSAAx2 with DLAA (fantastic reduction of shimmering at a price of some ghosting in very specific scenarios, but still worth it). Tried TLAA, but that caused a total ghosting mess, so switched back to DLAA. Also noticed I could add SSS for some extra visual quality and finally enable mirrors in all aircraft while still being safely above minimum 60 fps even on Channel and Marianas, which are the most demanding maps for my PC. For the same reason didn't try DLSS. I can see on youtube vids of other players it causes too much ghosting for my taste and If I'm locked at 60 fps why bother? It's good to know, however, it's there If I ever need to try it out. Granted, it's all in single player. I don't do MP and I don't own Syria or SA maps - in their case maybe I would need to experiment with settings more. 2 i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

Can you check if the Steam launches the MT (I know it says so, but does it really)? What does the note in bottom right corner of the menu screen say? "MT preview 2.9" or version number only? About the new splash screen... I don't even remember how the previous one looked like and I play the game on regular basis. Some of you guys are really way too easily miffed by such (un)important things. Do not worry, though! 15th DCS anniversary year ends soon, so you'll get some whatever "normal" splash screen then. draconus Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 (edited) I was sceptical on the whole DLSS thing but I was completely blown away by DLAA - total obliteration of shimmering, jaggies and alike - smooth image on the whole screen, even the hardest parts like metal fences, clouds or power lines were beautifuly rendered - didn't know it's possible in DCS... Which makes it so hard to leave because I can't unseen it now but the ghosting, smearing and jelly cockpit effect make it unbearable for me. Probably because of already low fps in my case. Thanks ED for yet another wish granted - comms menu is now able to be manually operated with bound keys or buttons (up/down, enter/previous) and you didn't tell us in the change log Edited October 22, 2023 by draconus 2 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria

Sure it's beautiful on a still image, but as soon as stuff starts moving there are huge ghost trails, and fine details completely disappear. Fences and power line towers turn invisible when you fly past them and look to your left or right It's the same with enemy aircraft: they all now have visual cloaking technology at close range, which makes dogfighting nearly impossible in the current state. Luckily VR spotting at close range is on the "known issues" list so hopefully that will get hotfixed soon. ouky1991 Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 Fantastic job on adding screen space shadows! It adds so much to the scene, especialy for the trees and grass. IMO it's more of a gamechanger than all the new antialiasing options, although DLAA is pretty awsome. Great update ED, thanks.

Eaglewings Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 (edited) I want to salute ED's efforts at improving the core performance with the coming of Dcs 2.9 Openbeta. A very welcomed improvement and immersive features. The vegetation reaction to rotor movement is brilliant. Sucks me into the game more in my Apache Enjoying open world simulator like dcs to a close-to-satisfactory level requires beefy hardware and this is making the hobby expensive. Dcs 2.9 has just given my present hardware another lease of life. DLSS is superb on 2D monitor not so for vr sadly but we will see what the future brings with this technology. VR play now shines with DLAA. DCS world is a prettier one with all the shimmers virtually gone while on DLAA SSS creates a richer and realistic world. Flying the F-15E Low-level Flight Practice (Day) mission in the Instant mission section is simply amazing with SSS turned on. Watching the replay of this mission with the new Cinematic camera leaves me with that wow! effect. So thank you ED. The future is looking quite bright for DCS World. Tomcatter87 Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 I wanted to start making some skins for the beautiful new S-3 model. It appears the texture files for the viking are in the folder CoreMods\tech\HeavyMetalCore. Sadly the 3D model files seem to be encrypted, I didn't find a way to view the S-3 in model viewer. That way, I can not check if I paint the correct areas, neither can I make a description.lua - are there plans to make the S-3 model accessible in model viewer or did I just look in the wrong directory? It would be a bummer if it got harder for the community to create liveries. "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. westr Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 Has anyone else noticed that you can add weather now in VR and it’s playable. It maintains a steady 45fps and stays smooth. I normally don’t run mods in my open beta but I love the new Bartek Caucasus mod so much and I wanted to try it in 2.9 because of the improvements and this is like a brand new game for me I’ve never know a DCS update to make such a difference before I highly recommend people try this along with the taz 1004 better trees V3 mod and they work so well together, it looks unbelievable, looks so convincing flying low it’s like I could see the moisture hanging round the trees between the mountains I am blown away now by this update. VGlusica Posted October 23, 2023 Posted October 23, 2023 For me the update to 2.9 has been an unmitigated disaster. I am running a Nvidia 2070 card and the sim is unplayable due to stuttering. This occurs in regular and MT versions. I have tried everything I can think of and nothing has resolved the issues. I have checked, and I don’t appear to have a CPU bottleneck. Prior to 2.9 everything ran without any issues. It seems to me that 3 and 4 series cards have seen significant benefit while earlier ones have significant problems. 1
