  1. @AG-51_RazorYou never fail to make me cackle! I don't have much for you at the moment unfortunately guys, it's been a bit of a slow month+ thanks to Covid, and I've been working on the less exciting parts (optimization, animating, fixing inaccuracies and missing parts). Once the animations are done, I can unwrap the UVs, bake the high poly to the low poly, then texture the cockpit. That being said, here is a pretty render to keep you guys going a little longer

  2. Hello Virpils, Just want to share some useful things about F-14, which are not obvious after reading manual / guides, and could reduce learning time for new players: * Disable Jester auto switch from PD-STT to P-STT (this switch could produce STT lock lost!) * TWS targets filtering - RIO can assign MAND ATTK & NOT ATTK for selected track on TID using CAP also with Data Link enabled you can see 2 HAFU symbols on TID (upper for your own radar and lower for DL) but unfortunately WCS doesn't recognize Friendly targets from DL, so unless Jester or RIO marks a target track as Friendly, even if DL shows it as Friendly, TWS can add this target to priority list for shooting with AIM-54, so with small cluttered TID repeater display in pilot cockpit and in a harry to launch your missiles, you could overlook that a Friendly DL target is still marked as upper Unknown and shoot it! * ACM cover up - AIM-54 is launched active, thus NO tracking TWS & STT targets at long range!!! * TCS slaved to Radar - when TCS is in any AUTO mode, TCS lock will stay on the last locked target, until lock is lost due target leaving TCS gimbal limits or unlocked by RIO using HCU half action in TCS HCU mode, so in order for TCS to always point to the STT locked target - use TCS MANUAL mode (in this mode TCS won't lock a target, but always will point to STT locked target or ADL if no STT lock) * CMS Jester Flare Mode - PILOT: DLC button releases flare, NORMAL: DLC button releases chaff * Climb profile MIL power: just keep 5 units AOA * Climb profile AFB: climb with 0.9 IMN until 30kft, then level and accelerate to 1.4 IMN at 30kft, then climb with 1.4 IMN * Cruise: keep 8.5 units AOA * Radar/Visual FIX on ST (surface target) point will just update its coordinates without any changes to INS * Radar in Pulse Search mode can be used for ground mapping and looking for ships

  4. Can I request the Mirage F1's radar be used to upgrade the F-5's? I mean, compared to the F-5's, this radar is gold.

  5. Great comments, just as an addition: The optimum AOA of 5 and 8.5 for climb and cruise are indicated on the AOA indicator as the square and the triangle for easy reference. Around 15-17 units AOA (the highlighted thick white bar in the middle of the AOA unit indicator, or just above it) will give best sustained turn at around 320-340knots. If you want to BFM in the F14 you should practice this to get muscle memory holding 320-340knots at 15-17 units aoa in your chosen F14A/B model for max sustained turn when you need it.* 320-340 knots at sea level is about the 6-7 o'clock position on the speed gauge, save time by not properly reading the speed dial in a dogfight but gauging it by position. As stated a million times before, when approaching 15 units AOA start using more rudder to roll. Once you are past 15 units AOA roll quickly become more dependent on rudder rather than the spoilers and stabilizers. *Note BFM is not just about max sustained turn, but it is good for this to be second nature / muscle memory so you can focus on the fight. Edit: Having watched Puck's interview on the Tomcat this also highlights manual control of wings and 25 deg at 420 knots can give some pretty good turn rates / G's as well.

  6. WIP items of the Mirage F1 CE: Autopilot: o Implementation of R and G modes. o Fixing oscillations in some regimes. o Mode logic, failures and tests overhaul. Implementation of S530 F ‘supermatra’. o The S530 D used as a placeholder in some AI models will be replaced by the F variant. Full implementation of the intercom (will enable communication with JTAC). Adjust adverse yaw behaviour. Pedal toebrake and control stick animations will be added. Implementation of miscellaneous armament: o CC - 420 external cannons. o JL100. o Etc… Implementation of countermeasures and jamming pods: o BARAX. o PHIMAT. Radar: o BZ short range mode. o Different detection ranges and target visibility conditions in IC and HA modes. o Radar noise visual appearance in various modes. o Elevation control in V1 mode for 7 and 15 nm ranges. o Radar slaving of the IR missiles’ seekers. Optical Sight: o Radar related symbology logic - relative velocity, range, correct display sequence with the radar tracking a target. o Gun sight is not correctly fed by the radar measured target distance yet. RWR: o Addition of specific F1 RWR sounds. New pilot 3D model with new helmet, 3 variants. Improved external model textures. Cockpit panels texture overhaul (dark cockpit) due to game lighting. Option to adjust the speed of the fuel selection dial. The Flight Manual has to be completed. New missions will be added over time. Main known issues of the Mirage F1 CE: Wrong number of flares at mission start (14 instead of 15). Jettison of CLB4 bombs when infinite munitions are on does not stop bombs from respawning. R530 jettison should eject the pylon too. Clickable sounds for the shock-cones and high sensitivity nose wheel steering not audible. Control stick switches sounds not playing. First preset radio channel is tied in both radios in ME. Some liveries are inaccurate. AI flight model is underperforming. We are aware of other issues that we will solve over time.

  8. Hey i enjoy it too and it's still the plane i spend more then 90% of my DCS time in, but let's be real, the FM hasn't been touched in a long time. If you only do dogfights, this may not concern you, nor you may notice anything wrong with it, but transonic and above? It's far from perfect. In fact, it's far from even being close. This. Gone are the times of this being time sharing between the VIggen and the Tomcat. So the question is legitimate. How high a priority the FM has?

  9. Indeed, Joey45. And when you consider the age of the Cyrano IV radar and the fact that France was a little bit behind the US at that time when it comes to more sophisticated radar thechnology I think France actually fitted the F1 with quite a capable package. The Cyrano can do a lot of things surprisingly well. That said, the Cyrano IV is actually quite decent in DCS and I have absolutely zero problems finding targets with it. Why? Because I know exactly what it can do and what it cannot do. I think, people need to understand that the F1 is no F16. Also, people need to understand that radar technology from the 60s or 70s has very severe limitations concerning its overall capabilities but once you know how to handle this technology it can actually perform very well in the right hands. And it does in DCS, too. If you fly on a certain Cold War server where everyone and his mother is flying treetop level just do not expect this radar to perform well. It just will not do that for you and this is totally realistic. Sure, AERGES still has some work to do on the Cyrano but this radar is absolutely usable and far from being crappy. And there is an old saying. Practice makes perfect, right?

  11. Anyone that has a high end Nvidia Graphics 3080, 3080 ti, 3090, 3090 Ti. You really ought to download MSI Afterburner and Learn how to undervolt you gpu. Below is a screen shot of my system. Everything in DCS is MAX 3440x1440, AH64D, Syria, Quickstart, Hot Start default miz Its really easy to learn you just tweak a graph in Afterburner. and then test it for lockups. It will not hurt your computer or GPU in any way. My 3090 Ti went from core clock 1920 to 2010 Mhz GPU power 445 to 335 Watts Temp from 83 to 65 C Voltage from 1.020 to .920 volts Stable no crashes Regards

  12. DCS is mostly about GPU raw power these days, and the ammount of video memory (VRAM) it has. RAM is important, but any decent speed and latency does the job fine, so long as it's 64GB (especially for MP). CPU is important, but a mid-range Intel i5 12600K or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X is all that you'll need, really. Wether you'll need more than a 1000W PSU, or not, is up in the air. I doubt that 850W will cut it - the RTX3090Ti already suggests a 1000W PSU as standard. These are the latest rumoured specs for Nvidia RTX 4000 series, including TDP: In my opinion, you only have two options: 1. Either pay by the nose and get the best performance you can get right now from the currently available top parts. ...or.... 2. Wait untill who knows when, then pay by the nose to get better performance with newer/better top parts once they are out. I will never tell a man how to spend his money but, I have to say, to see the super high costs people are willing to pay these days for a PC rig, just to use DCS (especially with VR) are sometimes dumbfounding to me. Pardon my rant but, the problem is the bad performance with the game, and we should never have to resort to this sort of ridiculous high hardware power, and respective high costs, to fully enjoy content that we pay. I'd definitely prefer to live with a more affordable PC and lower settings. Rather than pay a ridiculous high sum which, in the end, serves to congratulate the poor job from the devs on optimization, which is something that must be contested more harshly by everybody (instead of supported, by buying ultra-high-end hardware!). That should have been made priority #1 for years now - not new modules, not fancier (and even heavier!) graphics.

  14. The AF equivalent to what the Navy did would be "Hey, the Eagle is expensive so we are going to just use the Viper for every mission until we get enough F-22s to replace the Eagle role. We don't need air superiority F-15s when an F-16 with an AMRAAM killed a MiG-25. Get rid of the F-15Es too, they are too costly to operate and F-16s are perfectly adequate strike planes. You don't need the ability to carry a heavy load far when you have stand off munitions anyway."

  16. Because, more voltage gives more stability (in general) and nvidia has to account for the serial quality spread of the GPU they sell. Basically, they need to make sure, that every sub-par binned GPU is running without issues after beeing sold. Therefore their default Voltage/clock curve has a lot (A LOT) of safety margin. I absolutely agree with everything said above. Personally I run my 3080 at 2040MHz/925mV as a save stable daily driver. But it will go up to 2130 @ 975mV when outside temperatures are not as high as they are now. (Water cooled) Power Consumption is about 300W instead of 350W and Performance about +3% over stock settings. (GPU clock speed gain in % almost equals fps gain in % in case you wonder) Edit: The reason that the cooling is relevant here, is that it the amount of voltage you need to sustain a certain clock speed depends on temperatue. And the silicone lottery determins how energy efficient the gpu is in the first place. So from the same brand and type, one GPU may need 950 mV to push over 2 GHz at a given temperature and the next on may need only 925 mV. Afterburner is a great tool to safely optimize all those variables for your individual GPU (mainly with the curve editor). Your GPU running cooler is a positive side effect, that may prolong its life. But you can of coure choose your trade off. More Efficiency/less power consumption vs. more performance. Coming from the stock settings you can have both up to a certain point (so more performance AND less power consumption/temps) - but once you found the optimum - from there you can choose either way. Edit: btw. on the title of the thread - in principle all of the above is not limited to high-end gpus. (or to nvidia). You can optimize a 3060 in the same way. The results may not be as significant, but there is no reason, not to try. For every one who want to try this. When you run into stability problems, raise your voltage in 25mV steps as long as you stay below or at 1000mv. If still unstable, lower the clock until stable. Voltages above 1000mV are pointless and almost guaranteed to be inefficient. (In stock 3080s run between 1030 and 1075 mV...)

  17. Er.....why is everybody calling the spoilers slats? Or am I misunderstanding something? Sure, it has slats - but since they're not aerodynamically deployed (like, say, an Me109), they deploy symmetrically, so this isn't a 'roll' issue - you're surely talking about the spoilers, and their assymetric deployment for roll control (a la Tomcat)? Slats - leading edge devices designed to practically increase the camber of the wing, increase lift, increases drag associated with production of lift. Spoliers - on the upper surface of the wing, deployed to 'spoil' the airflow, reducing produced lift, as well as increasing drag. Unless I'm confused...

  22. just because the problem can be ignored/avoided doesnt make it not a problem. Jet was designed to land at 135knots at 13 units AOA, manual says I should be able to land at 135knots at 13 units AOA, I want to be able to land at 135knots at 13 units AOA. This bug report is about more than just landing comfort. lift has to do with your stall speeds, your takeoff runs, your ability to dogfight, and your ability to get out of trouble, climb, and pull out of dives. landing is probably the least of these concerns but its the easiest metric to measure to show the issue.

  23. RWC I have added dates but yeah if i have an update I can add a new date. You can see I also add the version. In most cases version 1.0.0 will be the first release but yeah i can do that. No worries. Sepp66 do you know if that model is available on the web? Also, keep in mind not many models out there have good detail but i will try to create as many as i can. Admiral Kasatonov Update. I'm conducting a weapons test now with the new class missile added. I added the 9M100 surface-to-air missile. She's coming along well so far. Still much work to do. All a WIP!!

  26. For once, I found the radar performances pretty decent... the visual render may need a little love (the green appear a bit artifical, analogical display a little "too perfect", but these are details). I don't know the performances of the real Cyrano IV, but I think indeed you should not expect outstanding performances... It is able to lock a target at ~30 nm, IF you look up in the sky, if you look to the ground, this become harder. If you set the scanning mode to BPZ TEL (the little switch very well hidden on the left wall, "Telemeter/zone scanning switch" in controls) you should be able to lock (automatically) anything in visual range in front of you. (Why the hell enginers placed this switch at this odd place ?)

  30. Hi, Can you please let us know how hard was it for you to make the keyboard pitch control input return to neutral and have the current control rates/speeds on all 3 inputs? Thanks! Many of us trying to use the keyboard (just because we needed to) have seen how ugly it is to try to control the aircraft in DCS (alone) at least in pitch commands which never turned to neutral after releasing the pitch input keys. YOU..., are the ones and only (my respect) who made it very simple and very perfect by having ALL of the controls return to neutral with a constant rate (no accelerations and crap like that) and as such, made the JF-17 pilots using keyboard fly the thing almost as good as having a stick in the very moments when a stick isn't available (laptop playing or whatever else reason). Many thanks and good regards to you guys on not only making THE MOST AUTHENTIC flight model in terms of correctly simulating the 6 aerodynamic coefficients on this nice jet, but also allowing us with many other features (countermeasures personalization, etc.), including these rather perfect keyboard controlling inputs behavior. BRAVO!!!

  31. Hello, when deactivating the mirrors, they tilt away, but unlike with other modules they still remain in sight pretty much. I wonder if it was possible to change it so that they could be tilted even further or tilted in the opposite direction, so that the actual mirror surface is less visible. I'm sure that this would be possible in the real aircraft if only enough force was applied. In DCS we don't have to worry about warranty fortunately...

  39. Whether im flying in VR or in 2d, i sometimes have the problem that at the start of the mission, the screen suddenly is a LOT darker than normal. If i then restart the same mission, everything is fine again (see screens, same mission, taken at the start). Reloading the mission seems to solve it. I also noticed that, when flying the f18, the problem seems to fix itself after about 30 seconds, but only in the f18 so far. I cannot find how to force the problem. It just randomly happens. Tried clean install, clearing shaders, different drivers (nvidia), but nothing seems to solve the problem. anyone seen this before? i can't find anyone else with this sort of problem anywhere. happens at any point in mission time. so not related to sunrise sunset times.

  42. Good call. DDR5 pricing got better but isn't competitive yet. The big latency with DDR5 and the excessive pricing on the 64GB quality kits (5600 MHz+) makes it a bit of a non-choice, when you can still find DDR4 3600 CL16 kits with same (when not better) performance for less money. Hence, a Z690 DDR4 motherboard and fast low latency DDR4 memory is still best combo for a pure PC gaming machine, if based on Intel 12th gen. Personally, I think I'd go: Intel i7 12700K (or i5 12600K, as more affordable alternative) MSI MAG Z690 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4 (or MSI PRO Z690-A WIFI DDR4, as more affordable alternative) 64GB DDR4 3600 CL16 (either 16-16-16-36 or 16-18-18-38) If not going to overclock, a top performance air-cooler is the better choice (IMO), simplest most reliable and less expensive (than an AIO). In this case, I recommend the Scythe Fuma 2 Rev.B (compatib.w/ LGA1700), as it performs the same as Noctua NH-D15 (aka the best) for less money (~70€). If overclocking, and/or deciding on liquid-cooling AIO aproach, there are many to choose but I'd take a look at latest revision (compatib.w/ LGA1700) of the ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280 or 360 (non-RGB). Simplest non-fussy design I've seen in AIOs, the performance is excelent and the price is good (~140€). I haven't seen mentions on the power supply. You'll want a 1000W PSU (or higher) for that RTX3090Ti. There are some good quality and very reasonably priced 1000W 80+Gold PSUs worth looking for. For example, and among others, check the Corsair RMx 1000w, EVGA SuperNOVA GT (or G6) 1000w, Seasonic Prime (Gold) GX1000 and SuperFlower Leadex (Gold) 1000w. If price isn't a problem, then you may be interested in a 1000W+ Platinum rated PSU instead. Lastly, I know SCAN.UK is very well rated but, as I see it (just checked minutes ago), they have a big problem which is an extremely limited variety of RAM and coolers, and it's really biased towards Corsair branding (not really the best for pricing).

  43. I think for that, you would have to get a time machine and convince Northrop that the F-5 ought to be developed with a better radar system in mind. The primary purpose of the F5 radar is for guns and sidewinders. It isn't BVR capable and can't even guide Aim-7 Sparrows. The F1 has a reasonably good radar. The range on the Cyrano IV is more than double that of the Sapfir in the Mig21, but the Mig21 is a small target, even the modern jets like the f16 have difficulty picking them out at distance. The Cyrano has look down capability, but that doesn't mean it's good at it. PD Radars have an easier time finding targets against an empty sky than they do in ground clutter. The mig21 is a smart design in that it doesn't let you point the radar dish down, probably with the idea that it wouldn't be able to distinguish contacts below you even if it could point down, so you're forced to search for targets above you. Also remember that TL mode is limited to ~7km, so you'll have to be pretty close to get a lock.

  44. The A-10 uses altimeter in a specific way to calibrate the computer's knowledge of ownship altitude. It takes a "snapshot" during the takeoff roll when wheel speed is I think passing 50 knots and uses this for calibration purposes plus at some other times. You can't just set A-10 altimeter to anything without risk of screwing up the computer system's idea of altitude. It's not a simple crop duster.
