  1. Surprised in a good way to see the F-100 coming to DCS. Hopefully the other centuries come along with it. I want to experience a Sabre Dance or two.

  2. I get where you're coming from. I too would love to get an update on dynamic campaign, multicore and vulkan etc. But I have a bit of a different perspective. 3rd party devs working on maps and modules leaves ED resources for core development while the cash flow remains. So I think that's actually a good thing

  3. Now with Sinai, Kola and the Super Sabre maybe we can have RAZBAM finally give us that MiG-19S as a paid module for historical settings. Just about everyone used the 19S! We can even have Chinese MiG-19S (J-6) vs Taiwanese F-100(A) over the Taiwan strait (Saipan to Guam in Marianas is very similar distance and Rota island can act as Penghu or we can get Iwo Jima expansion to take off from). The F-100 can also be used in Syria for the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

  5. I have received questions about adding the Strv 122 MBT. For the moment I've resorted to using EDs Leopard model since it's pretty nice (even though it lacks some specific Strv 122 visuals), instead of investing a lot of time into a new one at the moment. At some point I'll most likely replace it with a new one. But for now I've made a complete new set of configurations. The specifications for the vehicle, weapons, ammunition, naming, definitions etc are in accordance with the Strv 122. I've also added playable weapons stations for all the weapons. I've defaulted the livery to the Swedish looking pattern. Update: I've also added the Strv 121 based on the ED model, but with completely new configurations.

  6. Until the WW2 asset pack and maps are free nothing will change. The way the system is set up now is a huge barrier to entry and has stunted the growth of the WW2 player base. The community has been very vocal about this for years, but ED has been stubborn and set in their ways. WW2 languishes as a result. All of this despite some amazing work with flight and sound modeling, and big improvements to damage modeling. It's really a bit of a travesty that they've stymied themselves with their sales model and done severe damage to the online community and the entire product as a result. Reasonable suggestion: Make the assets and ww2 maps free and available to play online -- this will help grow the small, stagnant community. Charge for SP and to be able to use them in the mission editor if costs need to be recouped. I feel that ED might ultimately see an increase in sales with this approach, as more people will end up interested in the product and the online community of players and servers is able to grow without any impediments.

  8. It's also done to way less quality than the WWII asset pack - the quality is somewhere between the Flanker 2/LOMAC assets and the ships improved around 2014. As I've said before the WWII asset pack's problem isn't that it's merely paid, it's the multiplayer implementation that locks people out of servers using it (even if it's just a single asset being used). If it was changed such that the units were visible in multiplayer (even at their lowest LOD, or having their models replaced with their nearest free equivalent and without CA functionality for owners of CA) but keeping it such that you need to purchase it to use them in SP or to make your own missions with them that would go a long way to solving the problem, while still keeping the incentive there to purchase it and without making it free. The Supercarrier used to be like this (you had to own it to play on a server using it), including for assets that offer no new functionality over existing free ones (so more or less exactly like the majority of the asset pack), but later it was changed such that the assets were available to everyone and only SC functionality was paywalled (so being more generous than what I just suggested).

  9. "It is in fact used to set target altitude when performing bombing runs. You need to know the correct release altitude in a CCIP attack. This requires you to adjust your primary altimeter for the attack and rely on your standby for ASL." With respect this is a fallacy IRL Manual depression line bombing especially out in the live arena. QNH can be determined reasonably accurately. You have target altitude you simply apply that to your planned release height and bomb on QNH. Dicking around with QNH to QFE is hazardous to your health. As to CCIP its very nature means other than fuse arming and frag clearance its not strictly a weapons solution requirement ... but anyway same principal applies just apply your target altitude and adjust your Release/Roll in altitudes etc.

  10. All these announcements, and the growing list of 60's era aircraft, F-4, A6, A7, F8 Crusader. Is there a Mig 17 being modeled? Also an Essex carrier.... I am waiting for the announcement of the Vietnam Map, its pretty much all that left. Meanwhile i will Que up the Creedence Clearwater Revival tracks.

  14. Hi, For those unaware, magnetic declination is very much modelled in DCS. Be aware that's it's not only impacted by location, but also the year (as it's moving). For those wishing to sanity check the magnetic declination for a mission, here's a useful link that I've just found: https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/maps/historical_declination/

  15. Yeah, the Big Lady is awesome! It keeps puzzling me why people don't run in throngs to the shop to buy the module. I mean... sure, she looks like an old style milk truck, doesn't look hot or badass, as one of you mentioned above, she isn't an attack helo or a proper gunship, either, BUT... Mi-8 IS a top-notch module in DCS and it does matter a lot. RL aircraft is one thing, but the quality and "completeness" of simulation is another thing. She's on par with the Hawg (Charlie) in my book. There's so much depth to the module, the FM feels so good, so detailed, but also all the systems on board, starting from anti-ice and similar serious systems, but even every damned volt- or ammeter seems to work, a switch you didn't even know was there works, too. She's so amazing. You wanna HiFi - that's what's called HiFi. For a few hundred hours of flying Huey and Mi-8 in turns I was on the fence - do I like Huey more, or Mi-8? I finally decided, it's Mi-8 I prefer. I think I know why - Mi-8 is not only an awesome module, but also a very, very competent aircraft IRL. Lots of power, lots of radios (you'll need some to home on), she is TrulyTrimmableTM, she can cruise without you getting tired (as in Huey), you can medevac, you can swing load like a pro, you can also shoot and it's a lot of fun... provided the bad guys don't shoot back too much at you (which is a serious caveat, I know). 120 rockets? Or if you prefer realistic payload - 80 of them? That's a lot. Those machingun pods are fun like hell - you even get two flavours of bullets. Very soft targets, scattered around - spray red tracers (7.62 mm), you've got a million of them. Something slightly more endurable - aim with green tracers (12.7 mm). You need a serious punch - good, replace gunpods with cannonpods (23 mm), not too many rounds, but if you hit, they just kill. The only thing I haven't learnt to deal with (yet) is 30 mm grenades. Maybe some other time I'll get down to it. Even those "basic level" autopilots are really good, SAS that is. For instance, you can "kinda-autohover" in Mi-8. Use pitch and roll SAS - those dials on the center pedestal. Bring her to a manual hover, force trim and then see if she shows a tendency to drift away - use those dials to fine tune the hover. A few fine touches and she'll stay where you want for quite a long time. I have these dials bound to momentary toggle switches (like: minus-neutral-plus) on my button box - one for pitch, one for roll. Works a charm. Oh, you may add HDG hold to the mix. Normally you don't need this as she force trims so nicely (for sling loading etc. use your eye-hand combo, it's best), but when I get lost in a mission and need to consult the map or briefing, I hover OGE and study the papers, no problem. You can also trim her beautifully for cruise, 3 options: force trim (it works!), pitch/roll SAS (that works too), or "proper" autopilots HDG+ALT hold. So, anyway... if you like FLYING the meat and potatoes of a chopper (not a spaceship with a battalion of autopilots under the floor), for me the Mi-8 is still the best one in DCS. I mean FLYING, not missiles, double INU, fancy weapon systems or anything like that - just flying. I just wish she didn't get "knocked" every now and then as nobody from ED comes back to fix her. First the flood lights stopped flooding anything. Then she got that piano varnish at the back of the cockpit. I wouldn't mind varnish on its own, but it displays those spooky ZX Spectrum graphics reflections, jumping once a second. Recently she's got the fake hum, but I hear this is being dealt with (great!). Don't break our milk truck, ED, please!

  16. As an example, one liquid cooled engine can fly a limitless time with no coolant in the system and another will crack the block, evacuate all the coolant and seize in seconds if flown at high power and low airspeed for more than a few seconds. Both are obviously not very realistic although at opposite ends of the spectrum. From a damage model standpoint, there is a WWII module that can absorb the whole nine yards with minimal damage and other modules that seem to be made of glass. Inconsistent. Yes, I know you are going to tell me they are different aircraft so you can't expect them to be exactly the same. Yes, I know I am wasting my time pointing this out as you are here more for PR damage control than actually trying to figure out what the issue might be. But you quoted me, I got the notification and the Law of the Internet requires a response. I will make you a deal. Ignore all my previous posts on WWII issues in DCS and I will continue to ignore the WWII DCS modules I wasted a few hundred dollars on.

  17. I really just want an early light weight F-16A Blk15, or F-16A ADF. The future of DCS is 1970s-1980s, with the planes we have and the plane we have coming, thats going to be the most interest era to play. Please just give me an F-16 that fits that era. Just rip out the screens and throw in a few more steam gauges and lighten it up.

  23. It doesn't even remotely compare to experience the customer has with the modern counterparts, and that's the whole point that myself and others in this thread have pointed to. That's the whole point of "why it makes no sense", the way it is being comercialized. There's no "Flaming Cliffs 3" alike package for WW2, no entry point. Which, we all know, is what most people get into first, ever since DCS was a thing to this very day. For which the Caucasus is a perfect playground and makes total sense, to get invested in. If the online portion of DCS WW2 is not as healthy as it was once was, servers keep closing, popular content creators "gone out", and forum threads like this one appear, it's because the product hasn't been explored correctly. And that's the general consensus/impression from what I gather. Been around long enough to see sim/games come and go, to understand this never took off as it should. Doesn't matter how hard you wish to defend it.

The download numbers are a clear vote - I guess it will be the campaign that I will focus on, when Aerges release any relevant updates to the Mirage F1 Thanks again for your help, I learned a lot the last days. Hello everyone, sorry for the delay in regards the YAK-38 Project Progress , I been busy with work, but I put together a quick video of the progress of the EFM Vertical takeoff and how the Stalling characteristics are coming along while going from VTOL to forward flight, The EFM now takes into account Wing lift in different sections and speeds to better simulate the YAK-38 small wings and its importance of VTOL and its transaction to forward flight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIIFjmHROOk

  31. I'm rather hoping that we don't see one. Whilst I understand why you're asking that, forecasting delivery timescales for software is nothing like as precise as you might think. The implications being very simple, if it slips, it just generates HUGE levels of noise from those who feel entitled to complain about a "forecasted date". It's a LOT safer to under-promise and over-deliver, than the other way around. I'm happy to not even think about, until the update drops and we get some new toys to play with. Feels more like Xmas every 4 weeks, rather than ongoing teeth-gnashing.

  33. You have the wrong “people” - most people here have bought the maps the assets and more than 1 module. The “high entry price” is what I get from people who play other games when I suggest they move to DCS. This is a simple observation - not an opinion, neither a demand. The original question was “where did all the WWII people go” - this I believe refers to players who were already in DCS and left. They already paid the entry fee, so costs was not the issue. I know some complained about the glacial pace of fixing some standing issues with existing modules, in particular on the axis side. I think they were exaggerating, but what they thought is what mattered because they left. This is what killed SOW server as far as I understand. Beyond that I think that some players felt that DCS WWII was going nowhere - this is me guessing, I don’t have any solid info, or talked to people who left. Compared to the jets, WWII modules come out very far in between, and EA status drags on forever with minimal additions. Some modules still don’t have a native campaign, or lack things that prevent the 3rd party devs from release campaigns for them. There isn’t any clear vision or a roadmap of what is coming to get players hyped - not just player modules, this also refers to AI units, AI for crew (mosquito navigator?), maps, weapon options, etc.

  34. In answer to the original question, and hopefully constructive feedback for ED: I originally played a lot of warbirds with "thatotherWW2sim:1946" during the late 90s into early 2000's while Flanker / LOMAC series was modern jet focussed. Pleased to see DCS venture into WW2, purchased a FW190D9 shortly after release based on personal preference for the FW190 series. Initially not a lot of WW2 servers, but slowly built up with additional WW2 aircraft releases (Note I remained just with the FW190D9) It felt like there was a "golden age" of multiple, well populated WW2 servers based on the Caucasus' before the various ww2 maps and the asset pack released. New map and asset pack released, I wasn't willing to purchase, but many WW2 servers moved to these maps and the pack. Feeling locked out from DCS WW2 now as limited, low or no population WW2 servers available to me. Easier to find active multiplayer for cold war and modern jets in DCS. Pleased to see the FW190D9 engine cut out bug fixed, but why did it take many years to realise random engine failures were always set on for this plane after the many bug reports on this issue? Also the issues @=475FG= Dawgermentioned. Gone back modern iterations of "thatotherWW2sim" for warbirds as it was less buggy and as it was cheaper than buying the necessary map and asset packs to partake in DCS WW2. Sometimes take out the DCS FW190D9 for a joyride, but it has become a hanger queen of sorts. Just my own experience.

  38. I prefer the F1CE to remain as true to the Spanish version, if that is what they are aiming for. Better to produce versions which did use "weapon X or Sensor Y". (ie. F1EQ, etal) Not keen on seeing another Franken plane if possible. I realize there is always a bit of jiggery pokery when creating a sim of a plane for various reasons. I just prefer to keep it to a minimum.

  40. Your TX setup looks correct. Listening was resumed as is normal on the second TX1 button press, but VAICOM appeared to then go through its new mission / new module initialization during the first 1/3 second after that, and this caused listening to be suspended after a very short interval, and before you released the button. That's very weird unless you were in the process of starting up the mission. Otherwise, this does seem to be a bug. You might post the VAICOM startup log to ensure that VAICOM is starting up correctly. Sorry I can't be of more help. BTW, I've never had to reinstall VAICOM after a VoiceAttack upgrade, provided the VoiceAttack upgrade is installed to the same folder as previously. UPDATE: Are you running DICE? A thread from more than a year ago about this problem with 2.5.25 was released concluded that DICE incompatibility was causing troubles. The thread starts here: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/273957-listening-suspended/. The discussion of DICE was towards the end of that thread. The earlier parts also discuss possible solutions involving MP settings, but those apparently did not work for some people.

  41. I've spent years in DCS with all the warbirds. I have finally had to put them back in the box and taken out the F-16. I do this because of a very IMHO incomplete series of products that has caused me no end of frustrations over the years. Particularly the development of individual and incomplete aircraft without what appears to be much thought in the holistic issues of theaters, opponents, logical progressions of conflicts disjointed theater offerings and more. It seems to me that if a development group can make a warbird for ED, then they are in but without the forthought of the bigger picture we the consumers require to maintain enthusiasm in a product. Limited longevity! Trying to get time online with many other virtual pilots is restricted to two main servers and they have limited numbers by timezone. But, go to a modern jet and there are many servers and many online participants at any one time. In order to fulfill my personal desire for more community interraction, I am forced to go where that action is. That action at this time is not in any way fulfilled by WWII products and scenarios. I am saddened by this but I must go . . . .
