  1. Dear All, The Heatblur Simulations team and our wonderful partners at TrueGrit would like to wish you a successful and joyful 2023! Have a great new year, full of joy, great times and awesome sim experiences. 2023 is a big year for Heatblur, and we’re grateful that you’re along for the ride. It’s going to be a great one! We’ve just wrapped up a very tough 2022. From a personal standpoint for many of our team, with personal tragedies and the invasion of Ukraine taking its toll on us and our timelines. Despite this, we look back at 2022 with pride. We’ve seen tremendous growth in capability and size, forged new partnerships and shipped features and improvements throughout the year. While still playing catch-up; we’re right back on track on finishing the first of our next generation of high fidelity simulation experiences, starting with the F-4E Phantom II and leading towards the Eurofighter Typhoon. While we missed our mark on the F-4E Phantom for a 2022 release; we’re now very close to full completion of all major elements: flight model, radar, weapons systems, and other key major systems- and even ancillary content as another full length Meteor album! You’ve seen a sneak-peek in the 2023 and beyond video, and we can’t wait to fully unveil the aircraft that we’ve built over the past two years. For the Phantom- and all of our new products- we’ve invested heavily into building our next generation platform and framework. This enables faster future development, intrinsic multithreading, more dependable multicrew synchronization, far less of a maintenance burden, and new standardized features such as wear & tear, aircraft persistence, mass dynamics, and far more. In addition to this; we’ve also had our sights on JESTER v2, a complete rewrite of the JESTER AI system which will enable faster AI development and developer ease of use for integration in future aircraft such as the A-6. On the Eurofighter front, we continue to lay the foundations of this module through application of our next generation framework. Soon, the majority of the work will remain in high level parts: radar, weapons systems, displays and flight control systems- all leaning and benefitting from the completed next generation core. As an incredibly complex aircraft and project, the Eurofighter will be a litmus test for our team to ensure quality and accuracy while avoiding excessive technical debt. These considerations are key for a project of this scope and size, as we strive to minimize maintenance burden and excessive sustainment resources. You should expect to see much more Eurofighter development progress in 2023 as we begin to approach an early access release and feature completion level. We also look towards 2023 with continued love for the Viggen and Tomcat. We capped off the year with another major Viggen patch, and now set our sights on another round of additions to both products. We’re working hard to get on target on the early F-14A, which remains the largest piece of the F-14 yet undelivered, among of course other outstanding and promised features, such as TARPS or FORGE. Further Viggen improvements are slated for the early part of this year as we continue product sustainment. It’s time to get rid of those Early Access tags and square these aircraft away. Quality, consistency and pushing boundaries are our top priorities, and we’re as excited as ever for all that we’ve been cooking. Stay tuned for the full Phantom unveiling and for other exciting announcements with new partners and beyond. Thank you all once again for your dedicated support and passion. That’s what drives and motivates us, and we’ll make sure your faith is well placed with each upcoming release. Sincerely, Team Heatblur

  3. We are currently working towards the unveiling, which will be soon - but I cannot say how soon, to not set wrong expectations. I'm not sure who made the June statement, if anything we are currently not trying to make predictions, because, as you see, like with my statement from October/early November that we are "still pushing for 2022", it does little good. My apologies for that. Our goal remains: asap, but quality first, as always. We of course hope to bring it to you rather sooner than later. Development is progressing steadily atm, as most of you may have also seen in the 2023 and beyond video. We are very excited for the unveil, and hope you grant us a little more of your kind patience until then. Thank you all for your kind support and excitment! Rest assured, we can't wait to get it into your hands!

  9. | Download | Skins | Discord | Youtube About Chiller Juice Studios and Update v2.4 We are a group of aviation enthusiasts who have a passion for U.S. naval aviation. For the past five years, we have attempted to recreate the FA-18E/F and EA-18G within DCS World, utilizing Eagle Dynamic's FA-18C systems and flight model. Update 2.4 completely overhaul the visual effects lighting, animations, weapon configurations, external model, textures, and many other new features. Feel free to checkout the full changelog down below. Special thanks to @SkateZilla for joining the team to help us release this update, it wouldn't have been possible without his support! v2.4 Update Items.txt Features Full complement of Functional AA and AG ordinance Standalone slots (Doesn't replace FA-18C) Installed in Savegames/DCS/Mods/Aircraft FA-18E Super Hornet (Requires FA-18C) FA-18F Super Hornet (Requires FA-18C) EA-18G Growler (Requires FA-18C) AI Aerial Refueling FA-18E/F FAQ 1. Is the mod standalone or based on the FA-18C? The mod is based on the FA-18C you must buy the Official Module, But it does not replace the FA-18C. 2. Are liveries included in the download? No, we decided to save space and include the liveries on userfiles, or in our discord. 3. Is there a paintkit? Yes! Here 4. Do all the weapons function the same as the FA-18C? Yes! The mod uses ED FA-18C system code, which means every system and weapon that works on the FA-18C works with our mod. 5. Will the FA-18F and EA-18G ever have multicrew? Possibly. The IDF team's fantastic Sufa Mod has shown the community that it is possible to add multicrew functionality to ED aircraft. However, our team is preoccupied with career obligations, and this task would take a substantial amount of work. 6. Will the mod have a new cockpit? The mod currently uses ED's FA-18C cockpit, with an artificial UFCD overlay. However, this may change in the future. 7. Does this break integrity check? Not anymore. It is now installed within Savegames. 8. Does this mod have more pylons than the FA-18C? Technically yes, but limited. We are limited by ED's FA-18C system code, so we can only have a certain number of weapon stations that can only employ certain weapons. 9. Is the mod OVGME compatible? Doesn't need OVGME with Save Games install 10. Why isn't this mod standalone? Please reign in your expectations. We are not a professional studio full of dozens of paid programmers and modelers. We are a team of like-minded individuals who create DCS content on our free-time, without any profit. Join Our Discord!

  10. my uncle (mother's brother) served as a pilot in WW2 flying the hellcat. i have a display box with various pics and such. this pic (not great because of the reflection) i have attached is from when he graduated flight training 18 APR 1944. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_Air_Station_Melbourne each other flyer signed their names to their pics. pretty cool. unfortunately he died during the war so i never met him. null

  14. Nothing is as simple as you think it is. At the moment focus is on multithreading, and DLSS / NIS We are also looking at shadow improvements, and LOD changes, native support for openXR, but it will take time. In the future vulkan and beyond. I have cleaned the thread a little, posts calling devs lazy isnt welcome. thank you

  17. So, post AIM-7 study, I noticed how the loft drastically improve the missile. It even performed better than a Phoenix launched with the "old" parameters. I have waited a few months for the implementation to stabilise, and I'm working on a more in-depth study about the AIM-54. It's nowhere near as in depth as the one I made in 2019 though (with 3500-something AIM-54s launched)! That being said, it seems we are really back to the manual loft game, something that was necessary with the old 54 and the Mk60, but that, as mentioned, always really helped the AIM-7. For instance, at 60nm, 0TA/ATA, A35, the endgame speed of the AIM-54C default is M1.77. With a 30° loft, it goes up to M2.25. Nothing crazy, but every little helps. On the other hand, there are several drawbacks and curious facts that I'll discuss when I complete the data-collection phase. Apologies for the plug in, but I posted with rough video 5' ago, answering a question about how to deal with the new omniscient Ace AI with the new AIM-54. I recorded the footage a couple of days ago, without even rehearsing it. See if it helps. Btw, avoid Ace AI, it's just dumb. Veteran cheats, but looks much more realistic imo. @BubiHUN we're still waiting for your tracks.

  18. That is a massive oversimplification and disingenuous to boot; it also paints HeatBlur in an unflattering light and one that they decidedly do not deserve. For your information the initial data was accurate - however, as HeatBlur themselves admitted their interpretation was off. It was then CORRECTED in light of the new clarifying data. Welcome to the scientific method. How all engineering problems are and should be solved.

  19. First of all let me say thanks to ED for making my favorite warbird. I’d like to make the case here for developing both variants of the Hellcat for DCS in a similar manner to the 3 variants of the P-47D (-30 early, -30, and -40) that we currently have. The scope of the changes between the -3 and -5 Hellcats is pretty similar to the P47, so I think including both variants would be similar development-wise. Including the -3 would give us the classic variant of the Hellcat that flew in the Marianas, Gilbert’s, Marshall’s, and Solomon Islands. The -5 entered service in late 1944 and would be the perfect counterpart to the upcoming F4U-1D and any late war maps such as Okinawa or Southern Japan. The main differences between the -3 and -5 Hellcats are: - Engine cowling - Windscreen -Instrument panel -Visibility window -Armament - Water injection The F6F-3 has a slightly different cowling, with a small bulge in the side and extra cowl flaps on the bottom The -5 removed both of these features The windscreen on the -3 had an outer frame and glass with the armored glass and its frame inside the outer windscreen. The -5 variant did away with the outer windscreen and incorporated the bulletproof glass directly into the windscreen There was also a small window located aft of the cockpit on all F6F-3s and early production F6F-5s This window was removed for later production -5s. The last of the “major” cosmetic differences is in the cockpit. The instrument panel in the -3 is very basic While the -5 added a reflector panel for better illumination during night flying and a few other minor changes noted in the manual. The last two differences are pretty simple, both the -3 and -5 had the R2800-10 engine, but the -5 came standard with water injection while most -3s did not. In the same vein the -5 was rocket capable, while the -3 was not. I’m sure there are other differences that I missed but I think these are the major ones that be relevant to DCS. If anyone knows of others please add them.

  20. Good luck with the progress team, we're all very excited for the Phantom, ongoing improvements to existing modules, and without doubt you have some of the most anticipated modules in the business. Hoping 2023 is a bumper year for you!

  23. Absolutely. Many people will buy the module for exactly that reason. But the F-4 was only operated by Australia, Greece, Iran, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Spain, West Germany, Great Britain, Turkey, and the United States. I'm confident a whole lot of people from countries not on that list will be buying it too.

  24. It has to do with the field of view, as @sirrah rightfully assumed. To be more precise with the lack of peripheral sight. The in-cockpit video footage you see on youtube is usually taken with some kind of gopro and a wide angle lens, that makes it appear faster. (The wide angle lens is basically giving back some of the peripheral view.)

  25. Only reason I bought this the day it came out was because it isn't worth $20. Majority of the bugs existed in BS2. Just ignored for years. What I understood in previous BS2 discussion is that INS worked until new Caucasus map was released. And was never updated. And it also affected Datalink and how AI wingmen behaved. I am hoping that ED will finally fix them with BS3 but I think they're just realizing what a mess it's in.

Off to bed, I am fried and exhausted (up since 3:00 am), tomorrow is a new day. I will resume my Spit flylng on the Channel Map and see how she performs for me.

  29. @rurounijones You were right: the ship's missiles had nothing to do with it. I was able to reproduce this issue is a very short track with only a handful of units: some A-10C_2 and some SA-19. It seems the mysterious ballistic objects are nothing but A-10C_2 pieces taken out by missiles. I tested some other aircraft: "old" A-10C, F-16C and Apache don't spread such objects. Issue reported.

  30. You were in velocity hood the entire time and continually sliding backwards. You need to be up the hover symbology and not transition also, it will give you a better idea of your drift since the velocity vector represents 6 knots of ground speed vs 60. Place the acceleration cue in the center of the LOS and keep it there. Once the helicopter is stable, then engage the attitude hold. There is a logic problem in the hold modes currently where it automatically transitions from position to velocity hold and velocity to attitude hold. What should happen is you, the pilot have to interrupt the force trim to transition from each sub mode to the next. So really focus on getting the helicopter stable and trimmed before turning the hold mode on.

  31. I'm not arguing it's not useful or popular, it's just not worth a clickbait title or capital letters in a frankly quite useless video. It does what it's supposed to, and if you need it, you can use it. It's not a performance improvement or anything that would apply to everyone.

  32. i upgraded from a 3080 to a 4090 a couple of weeks ago, it's a huge difference, sometimes 100% more FPS with my Reverb G2. It still struggles sometimes especially on maps like the channel and the marianas. I am confident that with vulkan and multithread support we can get a very smooth vr performance, I hope this is a bit of an endgame regarding constant upgrading to get decent vr performance. Just finished the paradise lost campaign with the huey on preset high settings, it’s a dream, it struggles in busy environments but it’s doable. It’s was unplayable with my 3080.

  35. I think it would be a pretty good deal if they could release twin-packs, like you say, "early/late". If money is important to them for continued products: Navy F-4B with the F-4N as a module. Then the F-4J with the F-4S as a module. Then the F-4C with the F-4D as a module. After that...? F-4K? RF-4B or RF-4C? And with that, the F-4 should be done...4, 5 or 6 separate modules out of it at $69/module, without an all-up start-out of a new aircraft...just modifications. Take full advantage of McNamara's "Commonality" concept! ...and during the same time (a few years) working on the A-6A / A-6E / KA-6D, I hope! I think the F-4E, at least, is going to be hugely popular/successful. Seeing it in the "2023 and Beyond" video, I had to wear a bib...I was drooling like a St. Bernard looking at a plate of prime rib. I even barked a couple times. I myself, will purchase every F-4 module they put out! And even the F4U Corsair, F4F Wildcat, F4D Skyray and Boeing F4B 'biplane'. The Phantom II being the F4H before McNamara changed it all...which is probably why he changed it, LOL. The F4 can't lose!

At some point I’m sure I should be deleting one of these OB folders as they’re more or less the same thing? cheers for the help, it’s running. found the Options settings, as you’ll know, it was an options.lua file thingy. Now do I feel lucky? Delete the .bak folder and cross my fingers?

  38. Thank you for the update. I am very excited! I think you have it wrong. The "problem" was not the statement from November or that the 2022 release unfortunately didn't work out after all. Of course we found that very unfortunate, but the real problem was that 2022 had passed and there was no official statement. If your statement from today had already been made in December, there would not have been any discussions. I think everyone understands when a release is postponed - as long as it is communicated well. So don't be afraid to give release dates. We have more understanding when they are not kept than you might think
