  1. DCS 2.9 Graphic Options FAQ The introduction of DCS 2.9 into the Open Beta provides users many new options to tune and improve performance and visuals. Please note that you must be running the Multithreading version of the game to use these options. DLSS 3.5 for Nvdia Users DLSS, or Deep Learning Super Sampling, has been introduced for DCS users that own a Nvidia 20xx, 30xx, or 40xx series graphics card. With DLSS you can run DCS at a lower resolution that is upsampled to a higher resolution to provide better visuals without a performance hit. Why is the option greyed out? As stated above, you need to be running in Multithreading and have an Nvidia 20xx, 30xx or 40xx series Nvidia card. These options are not available for the Single Thread version of DCS. Why is it blurry? With DLSS you have a number of options; Quality, Balanced, Performance and Ultra Performance. These along with the Sharpening slider, described below, allow you to adjust the upscaling between visual fidelity and performance. There is no one answer for all players, so we suggest that you experiment to find the best balance for you in combination with the Sharpening slider. Is Frame Generation supported? Because DCS 2.9 is a DirectX 11 title and DLSS 3.0 Frame Generation requires DirectX 12, it is not possible at this time. Why do I see little to no performance increase with DLSS? If you are CPU-limited, meaning that CPU computations and not your graphics card are limiting performance, you may see little to no improvement. Further, if the scene is not very graphically demanding, you may not see much change. You will see the most change over high-density scenes like large cities. FSR 2 for AMD Users FSR 2, or FidelityFX Super Resolution 2, is a similar solution to Nvidia’s DLSS. One main difference is that Nvidia users can also enable FSR 2, which opens up options for other Nvidia cards like the 16xx series. As with DLSS, your results may vary; try out different settings to find the ones that work best for you. What is Scaling? FSR 2 Scaling controls how much the image is scaled up; adjust this to control your FSR 2 upsampling results. What is Sharpening? As an image is scaled up, it may become more blurry or fuzzy. This may be particularly true for a Heads Up Display and Multi-Function Displays. Use this to adjust how much sharpening is added to the image to try and smooth it out. The more sharpening, the greater the impact on performance. NIS (Nvidia Image Scaling) NIS is a cross-platform alternative to Nvidia’s DLSS. It does not require RTX cards and can be used on other brands such as AMD. Like FSR you can control the scaling and Sharpening. TAA (Temporal Anti-Aliasing) TAA is an anti-aliasing option that uses current and past frames to smooth out the jaggedness of the current frame. It will also result in better performance but with some loss of visuals compared to MSAA. Does Sharpening work with TAA? Yes, you can use sharpening to try to improve the image if it's still too fuzzy or is jagged. Again though, increased sharpening can impact performance. Like much of the graphics settings, it’s about finding the balance that best meets your needs. SSS (Screen Space Shadows) This is a new option that allows for better shadow rendering, specifically in environments with many objects such as grass, bushes, and forest. It gives these areas a more realistic look and feel without any performance hits from standard shadow maps. Color Grading Color Grading was generally added for you to easily add different color effects to your images and videos. You may also find a color grading that you prefer to fly with. You should see no difference in performance using this. LOD Switch Factor As we work to improve the LOD (Level of Detail) system in DCS, this option allows you to control when the LOD system changes from a more detailed model to a less detailed model at greater distances. The current default is 1. Lowering this lowers the details on closer objects/units, and this will increase performance. Conversely, increasing the slider value will allow for more detailed models to be seen at greater distances, and it will reduce performance.

  3. A-4E-C and DCS OpenBeta 2.9 Update Good afternoon, A-4E-C pilots. If you're updating to DCS 2.9, be advised the A-4E-C's radios are not compatible with this update, and using their functions will probably result in the client crashing. This can include using the communication radio, VOIP radios, TACAN and MCL (ILS) systems. We'll be working on a fix to issue along with some other changes as soon as it is feasible to do so, so hang tight and have patience.   5. Quick $.02 after 1.5 hours in 2.9: Using my shiny new quest 3 at 72hz on my old 3090 and 5950...your mileage may vary. 1. Love the new screen space shadows! 2. For one-on-one dog fights or intensive head down radar work I still prefer 2x msaa for clarity and no jitters or smearing. 3. I do love the sharpening option with dlss quality and dlaa looks good too. I'm going to have to do more work here. Maybe increase pd and get more mileage. 4. Normandy looks much improved. 5. I look forward to experiments with lod setting and color setting. Great work DCS team! This has been a 20+ year journey for me...thank you.

Hi everyone, Minor issue - the B-1B is missing a window for the OSO/DSO station (should be present on both sides): This is something that can probably be fixed with some minor changes to the textures. EDIT: The model shown in promotional material seems to be higher quality than what we have in game. This also seems to go for the new S-3B as well. The screenshot below (from late December 2022) has the window present (as well as much more detail on the countermeasure dispensers) and a more smoother, less angular look overall (particularly the AN/ALE-50 dispensers on the tail): EDIT 2: The window is also present in in-game footage too, which also appears to depict a more detailed, higher-resolution model (countermeasure dispensers present - they aren't in game, AN/ALE-50 sponsons(?) less angular):

  9. Yes, but this has to work for all kinds of resolutions, everyone here has different hardware. The thing certainly still gets fine tuning BTW. It would be helpful if pictures were posted of what distance the dots were actually seen, no feelings of "that might have been 20nm", what resolution And graphic settings, there are many different reports of the new spotting

  10. A heads up to all Tomcat lovers - Heatblur's labour of love is no longer limited to the in-cockpit experience. One of the (or simply the?) most cinematic jet of all time finally has a fully working replay system! Replay tracks now sync properly, every single replay has synced for me today. Yesss, "welcome home baby"! How it was prior to DCS 2.9: And how it is now: Huge thanks and much love to Heatblur and ED!

  11. Yep, it looks like a specific missile scheme (or something connected to it) has been changed in 2.9. This means the following of my assets with LACMs will behave strange until ED releases a fix: Iskander SSM CJ-10 GLCM Project 22350 Admiral Gorshkov Class Frigate Project 22800 Karakurt Class Corvette Project 11356R Admiral Grigorovich Class Frigate Arleigh Burke Flight III Destroyer Ticonderoga CMP Cruiser Type 26 Frigate Type 052D Destroyer Type 055 Destroyer DCS core units will of course also be experiencing the same issue.

  12. My feeling and the feeling of most of the members of my squadron: ED good job well done! The 2.9 is a real game changer... especially for helicopters. As well as the improved performance and graphics quality, the downwashing and dust effect for the helicopters is just fantastic. There's no shortage of criticism when certain things don't work properly (and I'm not the last to do so), so it's perfectly normal to also say when the work is of a high standard, and clearly that's the case here. We're already looking forward to the rest... Thanks for the work!

  18. I appreciate anyone that has the gumption to create custom cockpits. I'm a traditional artist by profession and also have spent a LOT of time in photoshop as well. I feel that Heatblur does a phenomenal job with every aspect of their modules and, to me, the Tomcat is stellar. I appreciate the fact that it shows the wear and tear of the Turkey's long history, complete with fading text, etc. I prefer the modules with a more lived in look anyway. Understandably, I can totally see why people want a a clean cockpit and I applaud DSPlayer for taking the initiative. That said, my only gripe about mods like this is when all the surface texture inherent in the panels is taken away and the result has a cartoonish look and all realism is lost. For example, Here is a portion of the original cockpit... Here is the same portion of modded clean cockpit. The text looks great, but the panels surfaces are flat and lose the tangibility of the original. A good compromise would be cleaning up the panels and text without sacrificing some of the look and age of the panels like this... Obviously, this is just my two cents and everyone can say I'm a jerk or whatever. Regardless, happy flying to everyone and and thanks to Heatblur and DSPlayer for their approaches to this fine bird!

  19. Using a g2 in VR I've never found a game where I've been 100% happy with DLSS and always revert back. With this update its OK but as others have said it does compromise the image. Is it worth it for a gain of 10fps over DLAA? For us to decide individually but at least we have the option now. Biggest improvement for me is the shimmering. Much much better in both DLAA and DLSS quality. Minor issue but disappointed that searchlights are still broken, although no one from ED has even responded to the bug and I guess they have bigger issues to sort at the moment. As a couple of others have said the Spitfire cockpit is looking fantastic! Hope the other warbirds get the same treatment soon.

  20. Not sure what to do about the emergency wing sweep cover since it has a clear part.. I’m open to any recommendations.. aside from that this is the prototype. Time to figure out the DCS Bios thing.

  24. I hope at a minimum we can change the side number. Though about the B-1B - has anyone else noticed that the in-game model appears to not be as detailed as the one shown off in newsletter screenshots and in-game footage? I've noticed that the countermeasure dispensers and windows for the OSO/DSO aren't present, despite them both being so in the aforementioned promotional material. The S-3B is the same where elements that were shown off in full 3D are just textures in game. Not saying the new models are bad in any way, they're fantastic improvements over what we had previously, but it's interesting to see that the quality has taken a bit of a hit compared to promotional material.

  28. Seems to work without issue here. I don’t see a particular reason why it shouldn’t. It’s just textures and they haven’t done anything to the caucasus like shaders or lighting afaik.

  34. Apart from some weird lo-rez reflection showing up on the gunsight dimmer glass (something to bug-report I guess?), the rest of the cockpit looks friggin' great and finally matches the likes of Thunderbolt or Mossie.

  35. Unfortunately, yes, this bug is still present on latest OB. Fortunately the workaround: press right ctrl + num0 twice, followed by num enter (zoom normal), still works .. but for sure it is a nuisance.

  37. Hey, All just got an update that EDs Tomahawk missile is broken so I'm sure will see an update to the update. The Tomahawk also known as (TLAM) flies in circles to the left and to the right but not in the direction of the target.

  39. Pro user here, loving 2.9. I am using DLSS with sharpening at .6, I also use QVFR, wondered if the linked app in the post above works with the pro? Its not listed in the notes as a supported headset is why I ask...... I have turned all in the in game open XR tool kit settings off, so only using the new DCS sharpening etc. Performance is great, very smooth and much more headroom. No issues with visual quality anywhere.

  40. @MalakhitThanks for taking a shot at it, I've had a look at the local variable issue and it looks like in DCS 2.9 ED uses the entire 200 local variable limit in Data.lua haha, they have no room to expand without refactoring some things Fortunately the inject function is only called from one place so I can put the QuagglesInputCommandInjector function locally inside the loadDeviceProfileFromFile function and it's scoped in a way that doesn't hit the 200 local var limit without having to hardcode everything or make the function global.   42. Did a very brief test with the new patch (2.9.0.46801). There are solid improvements around most cities, including Rio Grande and Ushuaia. Both at close distances (moderate fps gain) and far away from them (huge fps gain). However, there are still places that massively tank the performance. Namely, Rio Gallegos that barely gives me 30 fps. An improvement from 17 fps before the patch, sure, but still barely playable. And that's over the 100% empty map. So, while I truly appreciate the effort, I wouldn't call this problem completely solved just yet. P.S. Enabling or disabling DLSS showed no meaningful difference. All shader caches were cleared.

  45. Thanks for that: NEW: Added helicopter rotor downwash influence on vegetation. Graphics: Improved helicopter rotor dust effects. How cool is that, you fly low over trees/forest and see the trees shaking...!!

  46. Just tried the new Track replay ... on the F-15E and at the South Atlantic map, the track file replays exactly as the original flight went ... really amazing, I wasnt expecting much but at least on this short test it blew me away F-15E - Test.trk
