  1. DCS 2.9 Graphic Options FAQ The introduction of DCS 2.9 into the Open Beta provides users many new options to tune and improve performance and visuals. Please note that you must be running the Multithreading version of the game to use these options. DLSS 3.5 for Nvdia Users DLSS, or Deep Learning Super Sampling, has been introduced for DCS users that own a Nvidia 20xx, 30xx, or 40xx series graphics card. With DLSS you can run DCS at a lower resolution that is upsampled to a higher resolution to provide better visuals without a performance hit. Why is the option greyed out? As stated above, you need to be running in Multithreading and have an Nvidia 20xx, 30xx or 40xx series Nvidia card. These options are not available for the Single Thread version of DCS. Why is it blurry? With DLSS you have a number of options; Quality, Balanced, Performance and Ultra Performance. These along with the Sharpening slider, described below, allow you to adjust the upscaling between visual fidelity and performance. There is no one answer for all players, so we suggest that you experiment to find the best balance for you in combination with the Sharpening slider. Is Frame Generation supported? Because DCS 2.9 is a DirectX 11 title and DLSS 3.0 Frame Generation requires DirectX 12, it is not possible at this time. Why do I see little to no performance increase with DLSS? If you are CPU-limited, meaning that CPU computations and not your graphics card are limiting performance, you may see little to no improvement. Further, if the scene is not very graphically demanding, you may not see much change. You will see the most change over high-density scenes like large cities. FSR 2 for AMD Users FSR 2, or FidelityFX Super Resolution 2, is a similar solution to Nvidia’s DLSS. One main difference is that Nvidia users can also enable FSR 2, which opens up options for other Nvidia cards like the 16xx series. As with DLSS, your results may vary; try out different settings to find the ones that work best for you. What is Scaling? FSR 2 Scaling controls how much the image is scaled up; adjust this to control your FSR 2 upsampling results. What is Sharpening? As an image is scaled up, it may become more blurry or fuzzy. This may be particularly true for a Heads Up Display and Multi-Function Displays. Use this to adjust how much sharpening is added to the image to try and smooth it out. The more sharpening, the greater the impact on performance. NIS (Nvidia Image Scaling) NIS is a cross-platform alternative to Nvidia’s DLSS. It does not require RTX cards and can be used on other brands such as AMD. Like FSR you can control the scaling and Sharpening. TAA (Temporal Anti-Aliasing) TAA is an anti-aliasing option that uses current and past frames to smooth out the jaggedness of the current frame. It will also result in better performance but with some loss of visuals compared to MSAA. Does Sharpening work with TAA? Yes, you can use sharpening to try to improve the image if it's still too fuzzy or is jagged. Again though, increased sharpening can impact performance. Like much of the graphics settings, it’s about finding the balance that best meets your needs. SSS (Screen Space Shadows) This is a new option that allows for better shadow rendering, specifically in environments with many objects such as grass, bushes, and forest. It gives these areas a more realistic look and feel without any performance hits from standard shadow maps. Color Grading Color Grading was generally added for you to easily add different color effects to your images and videos. You may also find a color grading that you prefer to fly with. You should see no difference in performance using this. LOD Switch Factor As we work to improve the LOD (Level of Detail) system in DCS, this option allows you to control when the LOD system changes from a more detailed model to a less detailed model at greater distances. The current default is 1. Lowering this lowers the details on closer objects/units, and this will increase performance. Conversely, increasing the slider value will allow for more detailed models to be seen at greater distances, and it will reduce performance.

  2. I have always run my machines at max power mode and with cores unparked did mine years ago and probably why I have never seen stutter in our MT DCS. I agree windows could handle the cores better, especially if in game mode.

  5. Thank you for the detailed description and effort, I will discuss with Nick and the team about what we can do on these. Yes, that one is... bad. it is already reported internally, but I have elevated it. Thanks.

  6. Ghost images on MFD's will hopefully be tweaked, but you also have to understand when using upscaling you are compromising quality for performance. Using the sharpening slider can help, but you need to find the balance of quality / performance that suits you. thanks

  7. That's not entirely true. While DLAA gives very good results in reduction of shimmering other stuff looks worse. There's ghosting on various "little" objects, the video posted here somewhere on the Harriers dials is a nice example just like the F-18 AA radar sweep line, with MSAA it's a solid coloured green line, with DLAA it's not, the green goes from dark to light and changes while running up and down the sweep line as it moves across the display. So it's a trade-off (again). I reverted back to MSAA already because once i noticed all the little things that are not so good, i started to look at them all the time.

  8. I have requested that this be considered to be rolled back until we can consider appropriate damage to tanks and such. I will leave this open for now, but I think I have enough for now. The F-16 still needs proper fusing to be done for these types of weapons as well which is planned and coming, that could be the reason for the poor pattern compared to the A-10C.

  9. as said, the weapon might be "realistic" to the extent possible, but the combination with the damage model of ground units makes it virtually useless against tanks or armored vehicles (its intended use). so maybe push for a compromise? make it "do damage" again and adjust it to "realistic" values once the damage model for ground units is at a point where it should be for the changes to work? gameplay will be severely (and unrealistically) hampered if not..

  10. The problem with the video is that it says to search once. The setting needs to be applied to your active power plan, which might not be the first one found in the registry. Download CPU Unpark (Does not need to be installed) and see what the parking index is. You want it to be 100 for the active power plan. You might need to reboot. See

  12. I see what you mean, but I think we shouldn't overstate the mod issues. I only had to fix two of my 100+ assets after the 2.9 update. And one of them was an oversight on my part, the missile scaling. The main issues with the 2.9 update affects core game as well as the mods, pretty much to the same extent. Well made (code and models) mods should pretty much only be affected to the same extent as the DCS core assets.

  15. Yes. I didn't even try DLSS yet as I have no business in reducing image quality. Tested on 2.9 MT, VR, Syria, F-14: DLAA is pretty but the smearing, ghosting (on MFDs or external objects) and jelly effect in cockpit (like some parts of the cockpit move in different frames than the other parts) is unbearable. No such effect in AA off.

  16. people having stutters in multithreading Try disabling Windows core parking ( if active), seems this is helping people, some have their cores parked and it seems windows does not react quick enough to unpark the cores when needed.

  17. Yeah it's reported now, no Nvidia card is safe sadly, hoping for this one to make the first patch or HitFix. Thanks all.

  18. Yeah it's taking some time that's for sure. About 2/3rds of the way through Snowfox as it stands, whilst simultaneously working on Normandy for what will replace my old Operation Jupiter stuff. So after a long hiatus, there are some things being moulded into shape on the forge.

  19. I am slowly adding units and creating a single player mission based around an F-15e strike on a nuclear reactor. Be forewarned I am washed up meathead and an amateur at youtube. Oibafx I give credit to you and provide a link here. As I finalize some additional units (SHORAD, AAA) I can provide the mission file. If people want just the SA2/SA3/Hawk placements for Egypt I can throw it up now.

  20. Well I think this conversation has about run it's course. If not maybe a new thread needs to be started since this one was supposed to be about whether the F-4E can perform AAR not how hard it is irl vs on a screen in a completely different jet. Since it obviously can and the OP already has an answer I think it's about time this argument ended given nobody appears to be changing their minds and become less likely to do so the more this drags on. In other actual F-4E refueling news, Cobra said on the Discord a while back that we will also be getting an optional refueling probe to simulate Israeli F-4's as well as other customization features to make the -E appear more like the foreign operator versions.

  21. Thanks, Jojothebox, Foudre is on my repair list. Some have reported FPS issues. Below is a running list of ships that need to be repaired and or updated but not in that order. As you all can see I have quite a bit of work to do in the Shipyard but it's what I love doing. They all will be completed in time. One model at a time. If I missed one let me know. Thanks. With each ED update come AI Ship model issues but all we can do is repair them and keep it moving. 23. It's all of the models in the new format, under CoreMods\HeavyMetalCore and those models alone. B-1B, B-52H, LPWS, S-3B and all the new S-300PS models - they all look as though they're LOD1 models (i.e the next step down from full-quality) as opposed to LOD0. I mean, the B-1B lancer appears in full-quality (as does LPWS, the S-3B and the new Big Bird radar) in the recently released short cinematic: You can also see higher-quality elements on LPWS (higher-poly EOSS and rungs present) and on the Big Bird radar (antenna elements present in 3D as opposed to just a texture). My guess is that it's probably just a bug with the new format, though said new format makes me a bit worried because they seem to be containers (possibly encrypted) and cannot be read in the modelviewer. There are some files that cannot be accessed which are necessary for modders looking to make liveries (as right now, there's only one for each, even though the same short showed a camouflage livery for LPWS and we've seen a 69th Bomb Squadron for the B-52H in a screenshot in a newsletter).

  24. I really do not understand what happened and I wish we were given a straightforward answer. If it is a bug, just say that it is just a bug. If the models were downgraded, to improve performance, just say it. Even if the models showcased in promo videos, were accidentally deleted and there were no backups, so these were quickly cooked up instead, just admit it. I wish ED would stop being vague when it comes to stuff like this.

  25. I HIGHLY recommend anyone on a Quest/Pico headset revisit VD now if they have tried it previously and not stuck with it. The performance implications are fairly significant. No link overhead. Other than reprojection, VD is now superior to link in just about every aspect, imo.

  27. not what im seeing in the viper: in this track here i drop 2 CBU105 and afterwards another 2 CBU97 on target, not a single tank is dead CBU-97_damage_2.trk in this one, i redid the cbu 97 drop, lowered the burst altitude to 1000ft so less spread, still no kill at all: CBU-97_damage_3.trk 1x blu 108 does 11% damage. of course if you are lucky and 10 go for the same tank then it dies, but that is very very very rarely the case regarding the "fuzing option": the only changeable thing is AD and burst altitude. yes with lower BA you get more bomblets in a smaller area, yet are still at the mercy of how they disperse themselves (skeets flying everywhere with sensor fuze). still with that many tanks in the area and so many bombs dropped there, getting no kill at all is not an acceptable result. hell, most of them are still operational, only 2 have been slightly smoking now even if the bomb is modelled correctly, the ground units lacking any sort of damage model that would allow the bomb to perform adequately doesnt make this easier. so as of now the bomb feels like it underperforms, might also just be that the ground units arent in a stage where the bomb would do adequate damage. whichever is the case, currently this bomb doesnt do much against MBTs, even against T55.

  30. Don't think Virtual Desktop publicly supports OpenXR yet. The dev who was working on it pulled it from his git repo and made it private for closed beta testing. Unless you have an executable you can share Edit: Seems like he made it public again. Awesome.

  31. The new radar is more correct, given the additional parameters. The previous radar calculations had hard-set limits, and there was no degradation of Pd with range and no additional factors were taken into account; contacts were either detected or not, 0% or 100%.

  33. What it looks like to me is that for whatever reason the aircraft models are getting culled too closely to the camera. When in 2D I haven't seen this issue of the aircraft disappearing when I zoom out, but something about VR is causing the distance at which planes are drawn to be much shorter than they would be in 2D.

  40. Yeah, that gives me hope, that this is just a bug and the internal build does have the showcased models. Strangely, if you check the 2.9 Launch trailer, it is using the downgraded model, which is currently available in the game. The loss of files was just a hypothetical scenario I made up. What I'm trying to get at, is ED should be more transparent, even if the explanation is something embarrassing. Giving us the silent treatment, or being vague just sparks suspicion, speculation and mistrust.

  41. As a very enthusiastic adopter of the dot fix mod when it passed IC, I've got to say this is a large step in the right direction. 3440x1440, I am able to visually pick up a Fencer at just under 20nm if I know where to look. This is probably a bit too far away to be seen, IMO and I don't think the original dot mod would have rendered an aircraft at that distance. At ranges under 8nm, the scaling seems pretty reasonable. I still have a hard time spotting aircraft, but when I'm able to visually track one, I feel like I haven't had any of those moments where a LOD change renders them invisible. I also have a G2 but I haven't yet tested that properly. I'll report back when I get a chance to do so. Good job so far, ED. Options.lua

  43. Can you please post the mod as-is? If you don't have the time/interest in finishing it, other people can for you.. or, at least let all of us enjoy it while you make your finishing touches and work on subsequent updates. Could you please share it publicly, or please send me a copy via DM at least? Thank you!! If someone has the beta (or whatever the most recent version was) of this Ford, can you please send it or post the link on here? It seems the project might have been abandoned by its original creator and I fear we won't ever get it released at this rate. I am willing to learn lua scripting and whatever else it takes to finish the project. Thanks. Cheers!
