  1. As we get closer for 4.5 release. Here is a quick preview of the Weapon system and how they control the bay doors animation upon firing and also the new K-77PD missile that is meant for the SU-57 with folding extenders and are the Ramjet variants of the R-77 family.

  3. Its the lovely irony of PvP environments... People don't wan't to fly F-14 on modern because the 54 is just outclassed by the 120 and to an extent the 77. Simultaneously nobody is allowed to fly it with Phoenixes on the weird community canon of what cold war is, because the jet and weapons outclass almost everything flying there. (All of which occupied the same timeframe as our F-14A) Might be the problem is not with the plane or its missiles... On topic of the missile. The AIM-54A seems to have really cool motor ignition audio right now, I couldnt hear it on the AIM-54C. Is this intended or bug/WIP?

  4. IMPORTANT First off thank you #BIGNEWY and everyone who has responded. I made some progress and I wanted to share it with the forum. I think the problem caused by the stuttering is multiple issues, I'm only going to focus on two. Forgive me in advance for typing too much, but their is a lot to share. When the DCS 2.9 patch was released I just assumed that the stuttering introduced was caused by the patch, but I may have been wrong. I think the 2.9 patch only brought to the forefront what had been lying below the surface all the time. First-off let me just say that I am not a programmer and these are just my observations. I am now currently running DCS 2.9 with all my settings turned back on and enjoying the sim again maybe even better than 2.8. Their are still some issues, but for me they are minor and I feel the fluidity of motion in the simulator that I have always loved about DCS. There were two stuttering issues that I was dealing with: the first was micro stuttering that I was seeing every second and this was driving me nuts. This is now gone. I was able to remove this by installing a piece of software called Lasso, which optimises your CPU for gaming. Just installing this software and making one setting change allowed DCS to run much smoother. I will let others smarter than me comment on what this software is doing. My understanding is that this helps prioritize threads sent to the CPU and increases the effienciency of hyperthreading going on in the CPU. Obviously, this is a very complex issue and we can't expect ED developers to understand what is going on inside everyones PC. But I would like to remind others that just because you are not having this issue does not mean it does not exist and should moderate your comments in the furture. I would also like to recommend that ED look into what the program Lasso is doing to optimise CPU usage and see if this would help with furture development. The second stuttering issues seems be caused by what I think are texture files being moved in and out of memory. I think this problem has always existed, but 2.9 being more efficient with Multi-Treading (MT) just brough it more to the surface. I think faster PCs with faster speed M.2 drives and ram can reduce this problem even more, but it would be nice if the developers in the future might be able to find a way to improve the efficency of loading and unloading texture files. You can see this stuttering when you flying low over the terrian at 1000 ft and pass over a bunch of F-16Cs or AH-64Ds taxing on the ground. Their is an Instant Action mission for the F-15E using the Syria map called Free Flight. Once the practice mission starts turn right to a heading 050 and descend down through the clouds to 3000 ft MSL. In about 20 NM you will see Tel Nof airfield with a bunch of aircraft taxing on the ground. Head for the aircraft on the taxiway and pass over them at 500 ft. and watch the FPS graph (CTRL Pause). As you pass over them look at the graph, if you see a bunch of green spikes and stuttering then you are seeing the issue I am talking about. I realize that many of you are not seeing this problem, but I would like to know if others are having the issue in hope that we might get this resolved in the future. I do believe that Lasso has reduced the severity of the stuttering a little and I would like to know if others are having any sucess in reducing it even further using diffrent settings either in DCS or Lasso itself. Like many of you, I have been pulling what little hair I have left to fix this problem. Yes, I am referring only to my hair and no one elses. I deleted DCS from my hardrive. Installed two new M.2 drives and reinstalled DCS on one and installed Windows 11 on the other hoping to improve my situation. Anyone looking to install Windows 11 over Windows 10 in hope of improving things should know that this is not what I initially found. Not sure why, but initally running Windows 11 with DCS 2.9 made all the stuttering much worse. I came across another thread on the forum regarding Lasso and as a desperate act I decided to install it. I am not recommeding a Thirdy Party solution here, but I did not know what else to try. But to my suprised it dramatically improved my stuttering. My hope is that others will comment here and help us to understand why it worked and to let ED know, so that they might be able to use this feedback in furture development. Again to summurize if your running a CPU with a high core count like a 12th, 13th and 14th Gen Intel Processor or AMD Threadripper and you are experiencing micro stuttering that nothing else seems to fix then this might help. If it does not work you can just uninstall the software. As for the stuttering caused by texture files being loaded in or out of memory, I am hoping that over time this will get better. For now I am able to fly again so thank you all for your help. Checkmate Ryzen AMP Threadripper 3970x RTX 2080 ti 128gb DDR4 Windows 11

  5. Nick Grey VIAF interview Q&A: Nick Grey use DCS for Free Fly and Acrobatics Nick has fly real WW2 Fighters as Bearcat, Sea Fury and Gladiator near 40 years, and Cold War and moder fighters as Hunter, Mig-29, Su-27 and others. DCS started on 1991, by 3 ex-enginers with a flat green land, blue sky and a very primitive Sukoi aircraft 3D model. The phisics, inertia and trayectories was real. The develop was founded and move from 91 to 95. DCS future targets has build more ambitious, inmersive world with better visuals. Make aviation a level of perfection and detail dificult to compete. Moving to make more realistic and precision as Strategy vs only pictures. ED team has a team of 190 members. Fly combat market has smal but on growind. That has complicate system to modeling as F/A-18C and no target to any gamer. DCS has grows slowly, but grows (20 to 25 years old) with continue back to the product. Nick favorite plane on DCS has Spitfire Mk.IX (very close to reality), the Mustang, Mosquito, F/A-18C and F-16C. World Map Spherical Earth started develop 3 years ago with a smal R&D team, lead by George programmer, based on south caucasus, and actualy has a 4 man team working on that technology. That technology make many thinks changes as the balistic. The bigger issue has make some inexpensive to build something realistic and looking good with too manua work. The actual maps with the Terrain Develop Kit (TDK) has many manual, with a lot of hand work, ED team expected develop a tool with make many automation, slightly diferent to MSFS (the planes dont fly)... without put millions of dolars on technology develop. The SE espected see soon on some years on the future, to the entretainment and profesional market, The next ED / DCS products on working will reveal on 2024 and beyond video. Confirm the code show on 2023 and beyond video was Afganistan map. Other map will coming on the early 2024, "reveal on two parts". Has dificult qualified personal to ED, as personal on aerodinamic. Develop a aircraf phisics has special complex as a Flight Model, and required FM engineers. Actualy has six and required more. Nick has very exited by the F-4 module by a iconic jet, by the Hellcat, he love that airplane, by the CH-47 Chinnok, realy cool and fanky. Has more and more people participating on complex missions on DCS, adding pieces of missions with dont exits before as Logistics, Supply and Special Ops on the future, and he expected see a good air show on the Chinnok. Multithread deploy to the servers, is planned, and Vulkan will be deploy next year, but not expected incredible benefits, but any little steep count. Thypoon module, has been slow down by a number of reasons, and actualy has been a develop time more longed. ED has none plans to put subscription model on DCS, that has not a Content based bussines, but ED has a tech company, no a entretainment company. ED expected improved the miles reward system. Dynamic campaign has on the ED mind from a very long time, but they never wanted to do was a BMS equivalent. The problems faced was technicaly very large, first conected to machine learning, ang being able to use AI, and on the last year or two has accelearte a bit. They have four peoples working on them, not many, but very good quality and serious people, they has very big ambitions technically for the dynamic campaign, maybe too high, and dont like make them more simple or fast, that has a mistake. Today the fun of DCS is essencialy getting good at doing something but that is not been fed entretainment you really go and make it yourself as air to air / air to ground combat, learning procedures, on a dynamic campaign, you can part of the story, of something with evolving, no only today with I fly, maybe on two days when I come back, and being able to offer is a important step of us and we are not to walk away from. Its just more complex that we thought it would be. Nick like see a better throttle and stick quality and make better formation work. Nick has very demanding on thing with has very important as the feeling of fly as CEO.

  6. Here are a few screens of build 4.5 and its improvements . Updated the Single piece MFD to simulate anti-glare!. Added Animations to the K-77PD Ramjet variant of the R77 family, the extender now folds upon being inside the bays and open once fire. Slowly adding more modeling parts to the cockpit including rear section, reference real pictures. We also now have our own Canopy Ejection animation and shape of that of a SU-57 Canopy and not DCS provided. Next will be the pilot and Seat. And little thing i added to the external pilot and more to come.

  7. Oyé The new Open Mod Manager is finaly here (Please not this is pre-release because so many things changed that it may remain some unspotted small bugs). Please Read First ! This new version introduce substantial changes in various aspect both at system wide and application level, please considere the following elements : 2. Application migration This new version use new configuration structures and will automatically migrate any opened Modding Hub to the new structure. For this reason, any Mod Hub migrated to the new structure will become incompatible with previous versions. The migration process is robust but since nothing is infailible it is redommanded to uninstall all currently installed mod and making a backup of your Modding Hubs "home" directories before installing this new version. 1. System integration Some resources are removed while other are added and default files associations changed. to prevent inconsistant files associations, orphan registry keys and residual non-uninstallable files, take care to uninstall the previous version before installing this one. Release Notes This new version have some visible changes, but before all have huges changes under the hood. Vast portions of code are completely rewritten in the objective to make it more robust and optimize maintainability. Many small bug disapeared, but there are potentially some new ones. Changes log (summarized): Fixed bug with files size not properly computed. Fixed bug with files size not properly displayed in List Views. Mod-Channels are now visible and selectable in a List View instead of a Combo Box. New menu bar, with new organization. Contextual menu for all main window List View. New prettry icons everywhere to see life in color. New "Add to Library" feature accessible via button or menu to browse and select Mods to copy to the current Channel library. New "Import to Library" feature accessible via button or menu to browse and select Mod-Directories to be built as Mod-Packages directly to the current Channel library. Totally rewritten Mod-Package editor with new interface, a menu and toolbar, and now looks and act like an "Editor". Totally rewritten Repository editor with new interface, a menu and toolbar, and now looks and act like an "Editor". New "zip" archive library allowing multiple compression algorithm, including Deflate (usual Zip algorithm), LZMA, LZMA2 and Zstandard. Mods installation, restoration and download now implemented as queued operations. New per-Mod visual install and download progression in List View with changes in abort logic. Network Repositories can now support two address/coordinate system and allow to setup custom raw URL. "Installation Batches" become "Presets" (still roughly the same under the hood). Presets (formerly "Batches") files are now located in a ".Presets" subfolder within Hub "home" directory. New Wizard dialogs to create Hub, Channel and Repository with better helping texts. It is now possible to double-click on Hub, Channel, Repository and Mod-Package files to opens it in application. You can now support me by donate via PayPal (link in About window) A word about compression methods (algorithms) This new version use the zlib-ng library and allow to create Mod-Package and saving Backup data as Zip archives (with or without the .zip extension) but with unusual compression algorithms. Zip files with unusual compression methods are usually well supported by advanced archive readers (WinRar, 7-Zip, etc) but NOT by Windows File Explorer for example. So if you want to create really widely standard Mod-Package Zip file, prefer using "Deflate" compression method. The "Zstandard" compression method (which is not the standard Zip file method as its name let think) is the prefered and default one, it perform better than "Deflate" and provides good balance between speed and compression ratio. If you want the best compression ratio use LZMA or LZMA2 but be aware that these methods are way slower that others, both for compression and decompression. 8. In that case, you're gonna like Afghanistan. It's a whole lot of mountains, somewhat arid, but far from another sandbox. You'll get a lot of rocks, some green and some beige, as well. Hot and high conditions will make it a challenge for helos, and there's plenty of difficult terrain to zip through in fixed wing aircraft. It'll be quite unique, I think.

  9. Currently facing two distinct problems that needs to be addressed: The hit/bda between plane and carrier happens upon landing and launch of player controlled aircraft Not all planes can hook-up to the cat when starting from ramp/parking hot. Notably the A-4 and F/A-18 seem to work, but neither F-4 nor F-14 work Not sure when and if those problems can be overcome, stay tuned. Cheers, TeTeT

  12. The S-60 57mm gun and the KS-19 100mm gun still lack their crew after being in the sim for many years now. It looks really stupid seeing these guns traverse and fire without crew and it also makes it difficult to judge if a gun is disabled or not. Both the guns are vital assets for many missions and the missing crew is a very obvious shortcoming of the current implementation.

  19. Calculated loft cues are not in beta yet. Everything that folks are doing to loft is just a crude method of using a climbing angle and the traditional release cue. The ESL will give you a loaded pull cue and will be more 'proper' for lofting.

  28. Look guys, DCS optimization is really not in the mission maker’s hands. A heavier mission like campaigns will never run as good as a quick mission over a nearly empty map. But Zone 5 is not heavy at all. Also, when you get back to Nellis you also get close to a heavily populated Vegas. again, check oit my optimization video and if it doesn’t help, better knock on ED’s door. I also often have stutters when the game tries to load new textures and I’m not alone (see Jabbers’ video about it) it’s a multithread thing. ED definitely needs to fine tune their code.

  29. I solved it anyway, I flew over the field and dropped some flavorful food, you know ... pizza, lasagna, burritos, etc ... and the limeys went running in every conceivable direction screaming "omg, we have some kind of sensors in our mouths! I had no idea! But I don't understand ... what IS this sensation my mouth sensors are picking up?!". The place has been a ghost town ever sense. Since they found out about this "taste" sense, they've been eating their way across the continent, trying to make up for lost time. So, you know, all's well that ends well

  35. No problem, glad if it helps. If you want something between the 32'' and 42'' size, well, then you might be in luck! ASUS recently revelead the world's first 38'' 4K high-refresh gaming monitor, the ASUS ROG Swift PG38UQ. And it's available (at 1000$). It's a 38'' size, 16/9 format, 3840x2160 144Hz VRR display gaming monitor, with IPS panel. It seems to be also RGB sub-pixel layout (so, perfect text clarity). A bit expensive, but looks like it checks all the right boxes. Newegg: https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16824281268 Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Swift-Gaming-Monitor-PG38UQ/dp/B0BZR81SQG/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=PG38UQ&qid=1702762828&sr=8-3 I didn't even knew about this one. Heck, this might become now one of the most recommended monitors for DCS folks.

  36. Forgive me but I am really not understanding the need for this border line hostility. Perhaps you failed to read the title which had a question mark in it. My goal here was to get feedback from the community, not to outright claim something. Granted perhaps my choice of words in some areas revealed my bias towards thinking the current in game AMRAAMs are too easy to notch. Supporting this line of thinking, I have routinely observed defenders successfully “notch” several inbound AMRAAMs all coming in from different aspects. The next time I see and capture this behavior, I will be sure to post it. Though perhaps the solution here is to move this post to another section since I am not officially claiming something is broken at this time. I suppose that is for the moderators to decide.

  37. The majority of Afghanistan is not remotely(!) a Desert. Eastern provinces are lush mountain valleys with timber industry as a major income, northern areas are a mix of mountains, hill and uzbekian steppe. The only desert is the Dasht'e Margo South of Kandahar and the region west of the Helmand valley. I personally am mostly interested in real life locations with well documented conflicts, which both Afghanistan and Iraq maps would provide. The decision to create a map in the Persian Gulf and deliberately omit Kuwait, Iraq, Iran's western border to Iraq was "interesting". I think I have a pretty good idea about the reasons, but as DCS maps can't really be used to plan a specific target run, I would have preferred the whole Persian Gulf Map moved some 500km to the west. My guess for the "other map" is strongly in the Pakistan/India Border region, though, as it would make a lot of sense.

  38. I wouldnt expect much better PK to be honest, as missile performance wouldn't drastically change. Remember that AIM54/AWG9 weapons system was designed in 1960s and put operationally in 1970s, so yeah no wonder that missile from 2000 - AIM120C-5 is better. However for nearly 20 years of F14 until 1991 (when first 120As appeared), Tomcat was only fighter with true FOX3 capability. And F-14B we got is essentially from 1987, so in typical "modern" setting pvp fighting against F-18s/F-16s from 2005 with JHMCS/AIM-9X/LINK16 its no surprise that tomcat is "out teched". But if you had historical 1989-1990 settings with same F14 we got, with all its weaponry (minus BOL chaff expanders) fighting vs AIM-7 only F-15s/F-18s or AIM-9Ms only F-16s or R-27Rs 27s/29s, then everybody would fly F-14, isnt it?

  39. While older planes certainly need a bit more skill, learning and patience to operate, they can have a great advantage in this regard: Usually here one switch does one thing, and even if there seems to be more stuff on the surface, there is less complexity altogether. I have too many modules, and I often realize, after not flying a 4th gen for some time, that I can't remember the DMS left short + TMS down long + China hat forward + boat switch aft + blink twice + clap 3 times HOTAS command I would need for the mission... maybe it's just me. I never forget, how to operate the MiG-21 or the F-1, all I need is usually 5 mins of aerobatics, to build back muscle memory. That's much more fun for me compared to relearning the HOTAS. So, learning curve is steeper but useful knowledge is less perishable I think.

  42. When a mission has no clouds or preset selected, there are high altitude clouds showing on and off. Whenever I switch from external to cockpit view, the high altitude clouds paterns change and sometimes they go away leaving a perfectly clear sky. Is there a way to stop this random ''high clouds on/off'' behaviour? Is it possible to have a clear sky throughout the mission?

  46. Hi All! Quick question/thought. Are there any skinners up to the task of making more Christmas skins for the tomcat? There is a VF-103 Pack with a Santa bones skin and there was a limited release VF-31 Santa-cat skin. I saw a VF-211 Christmas themed bird the other day and was wondering if anyone would be up to the task of making it? I know this is certainly a lot to ask but I am not a skinner myself so I rely on others to make awesome Tomcat skins. Thanks!
