USCav Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I'm curious whether or not Ft. Irwin will be in the map because if you center the 360x360km area on Las Vegas or Creech AFB, Ft. Irwin sits comfortably inside. It doesn't have an impressive airfield, its a dirt strip just shy of 2 miles long, but it would be a nice addition for rotor craft. If done right, it could even have Twentynine Palms too. But only just due to it being ~350km south/southwest of Area 51. The airfield at Twentynine Palms isn't too shabby either. If this means I getting finally be the guy doing loops above hpNTC popping flares and jerking off in front of the grunts then I'll be a happy man. But seriously, **** Ft. Irwin.

No. So instead of developing a full 6DOF pitted craft for us to enjoy in Georgia which saw conflict (albeit 3 or 4 days), you go ahead and create Nevada. Since you're Arab, I don't think you can expect [place name of an arabic country here] Mig-21s invading the U.S. and engaging retired F-4s over Nevada, not in the foreseable future at least. Although if you were American or European, you could expect a number of active airframes (A-10, F-16 etc.) taking part in a multinational war exercise called Red Flag. Cowboy10uk Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Wow just stunning, Nevada is really coming along well, although starting to wonder if my PC will be able to run that much detail. On another question, I was wondering if A10 beta members will still get this map for free as part of the original package? I only ask as it's taken a lot longer and you guys have put so so much more effort and time into the map than originally planned I would understand if the original release plans have changed. Abburo Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Nevada is the biggest step forward just because it will introduce a new graphic engine. Should we rant this so much asking for historical/real events, or other non related 6DOF, flight models and so on? Let's see how will looks and works this new engine on our PCs and only then we will be able to send a feedback. I do trust that ED have some skilled people there which know what they are doing. Cibit Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I honestly think going off the size of the first Nevada that it will be big enough to portray desert ops without too much imagination. Also once EDGE is finally integrated with DCSW the technology and tools should exist to enable more maps to be produced by both ED and 3rd parties at a faster rate than is current. DD_Fenrir Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 (edited) *sigh* instead of wasting time designing the casinos at las vegas...I would've preferred they devote their time to making a map of afghanistan or something. Maybe it might have something to do with having a map that's useful beyond DCS platform, considering that DCS: A-10C was a commercial off-shoot of a military grade sim.... It seems quite apparent - to me at least - that the original pre-EDGE Nevada Beta map that was around was being built not for DCS world but primarily for the military sim and to be used in the training of A-10C pilots in an environment that they'll be familiar with; we DCS fellows were simply going to be beneficiaries of that. Now given that originally beta buyer-ins of DCS: A-10C - that includes me btw - were told that Nevada would be part of final release, we paid on that knowledge, AFAIAA ED are therefore legally obligated to provide this map to us pre-release buyers. So long standing legal obligation + military customer = Nevada. Don't like it? Don't bloomin by it. Simple. Want another map? Wait. Simple. And WildBill, the team developing maps is a different entity from that making aircraft modules, so the two are pretty exclusive, integration aside. And if you want new maps in the future some learning has to be done in integrating EDGE maps to DCS. So look upon Nevada as the first proving exercise in a process that will eventually bring us WW2 theatre and more - if the idea of any ED employee working on something so horribly irrelevant still causes you such ire. Of course we could just tell them to throw away 4 years work and start over. I'm sure that would be very constructive. Edited January 12, 2014 by DD_Fenrir

Let´s just hope the ED devs won´t ever get locked up for their work on the maps like it happened in the case of BI ^^ Tha might slow down their progress. There is something in several screenshots that looks a little like Ambient Occlusion (unless it´s been baked into the textures). WildBillKelsoe Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 And WildBill, the team developing maps is a different entity from that making aircraft modules, so the two are pretty exclusive, integration aside. Of course we could just tell them to throw away 4 years work and start over. I'm sure that would be very constructive. I did not complain that Nevada is reaching a final. My beef is that I've been waiting 3 years now (2011) since A-10C release for a new modern aircraft. And it just pisses me off that instead of finishing older products (A-10C for instance, today I booted 1.1.1.1 and 1.2.7 and the CBU-87's still *cuk up my FPS once popped.) Another thing: P-51D, bought and tested a year and half ago, still can't engage in multiplayer or singleplayer dogfights without FPS drop by cannon fire. A third thing: UH-1H released without the 2 crown jewels: multiplayer gunner positions and sling loading (albeit one can pretend sling loading works by PeterP's fixes and workarounds, but they should be there alright). My one and only consolation is Beczl's Mig-21 Bis which is coming soon after almost 2 years of wait and he did a wise job of postponing release till he made sure that even a 4 year old child on his Dad's lap would mumble something as simple as "Dad, I want this", just by revising his product. That doesn't mean it will be perfect (or would it) upon release, it means the product is 99% complete and we help him squash the 1% bugs. Add to that talkers hooking along like the F-35 and Iris and you can tell that ED is trying to distract us while they finish their agenda. I don't like to be fooled. I am straight and I expect the person reading this to be straight as I am. Besides, I am already getting bored of FSX and now considering X-plane 10 for a change while ED starts going back to the good old times of releasing D C S HiFi modules. I hope. And I do not care about Nevada or those who anticipate their beta returns. I just want a new aircraft with 95% systems like the A-10C so I can feel the whiff of DCS again. It's a study sim afterall. /Signing off WBK AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. But I have not really active either so... This may be a bit outdated but.... http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1660812&postcount=1430 A few items to reiterate: 1- Much of the Nevada map is done, but aspects of it could certainly change between now and release. 2- The original effort was done by a third party, but for various reasons, that effort did not work out and the Eagle team basically had to re-start it from scratch. 3- Due to the massive number of ground objects, elevation mesh detail, and texture sizes, a new image generator (IG) had to to be created in order to run it at more than single digit frame rates. Creating a new IG is a huge undertaking and it takes a lot of time. More so than anything else, this has been the reason behind the delay. 4- There has been no change in our plan to make this map available for free to those that purchased the A-10C beta. 5- Given the nature of the map, I would imagine that most missions will revolve around training, but certainly large Red Flag type campaigns are also possible. 6- We have no ETA at this time. When there is a change to any of the above, there will be official news of it. 1 Intel i5-9600K @ 3.7GHz; Gigabyte Z370XP SLI Mobo; G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 64GB (4 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4080 16GB 256-Bit GDDR6; Thermaltake Water 3.0 Certified Liquid Cooling System Windows 11 Professional HP Reverb G2 /TrackIR 5 in case VR dies; Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog w/ Thrustmaster T-Flight Rudder Pedals
