  2. Thanks for the kind words everyone, I've decided to proceed with the release of the Seaking since it's in an usable state already. It's neither as polished nor as complete as I orginally intended but it works. I'm doing a "low profile" release so I can focus on the ship pack and I'll revisit the Seaking later. Seaking Pack v0.5 There are 3 variants (Sikorksy SH-3A & SH-3H and Westland Mk48) as well as 2 static ones with folded rotor and tail to place on a carrier deck (SH-3H and Mk48) For some reason I couldn't get the liveries to work with the AI SH-3A or the static Westland variant. No idea why, I'll investigate later but if anyone has a clue, please let me know. EDIT: Eddie came up with a quick fix for this issue, it will be integrated into the pack but in the meantime have a look here In the mission editor, the AI Seaking can be found under the helicopter tab (it should appear at the very bottom of the list) The static object variant can be found under Static Object -> Structures -> "Static - Seaking" Credits : Original 3D model and UK livery by Julialt (CGTrader) US Pilot 3D model by CombatSystem3D (CGTrader) US Navy Liveries by Gunslinger22 German Navy livery by Neo47 Belgian Coast Guard livery by Eightball Special thanks to Admiral189 and CrazyEddie for allowing me to use their AW-101 as a template, to Backy51 for helping me with the lua as well as Tobi for the Blender exporter.

  4. Things need to be done in steps to get to fully dynamic weather, getting them to look right, getting to look right while moving, etc etc. I know its not as fast as we all want, but we are trying to release them looking and feeling the best they can as we go along.

  11. First, I'm not crying, you're crying! Second, do I have to pinch myself to realize this isn't a dream. I'm so happy for you good folks at OctopusG for doing this. I love the La-5FN and the La-7, so this just made one of my biggest wishes for DCS World come true. I'll buy it day one! Thank you. Love and Respect from Canada! Oh BTW not a big issue but can we get wind effects for sticking our heads outside the I-16 cockpit please. Cheers.

  12. It might be a good idea for ED to mandate the use of the advanced damage model to maintain consistency across the platform.

  13. Hi falconzx, In a 2007 US F-16C BLK 50, there should be no L16 HMCS and AIFF integration. That came in later OFPs. It was removed as it was a mistake to be on the original list. The next big L16 tasks are assignment of AA targets and setting up Flight, Team, and Donor participants.

  16. Is torture, in this case, a legimit method to get the so disired informations? It litally starts to hurt, waiting for the F4 and yes, I'm in an age group where you start to count your expected "rest life" in ever smaller increments. Being on constant high alert for every bit of infomation doesn't help the cause

  17. Here are my thrown-together before (3090FE) and after (4090) FPSVR readouts from loading Instant Action > F16 > Syria > Cold and Dark (this is a pretty CPU bound space). Run on a 5950x with a Pimax 8KX set to 72hz with VRPerfKit and the VR preset. This scene being CPU bound means no improvement in overall framerate, but the extra headroom meant I was able to bump to 150%SS with high detail settings and hit the same frame times. null

  18. So your take is you shouldn't be excited for the Typhoon because modern DCS has inaccuracies and it will never be fully accurate. Sorry to burst your bubble, but there are plenty of people out there who like modern DCS regardless. Not everyone wants to fly grandpa's jet fighter because at least all the rivets are in the right spot. If you want to rain on the Typhoon parade, at least wait until the module releases so your feedback can be constructive. Until then, as you said, there are other modules to discuss inaccuracies about.

  19. That's my job. For the rest of your post, you are reading a lot into what I said. I suggest you re-read it. I never said the did a much lower level than they should have, Normandy was one of the first 3rd Party maps made when map tech was much less matured than it is now. This is nothing unusual. For example if the Caucasus was to be updated it would have to be done from scratch and be totally new. It is using hybrid tech and not upgradeable at all. Again, you have a choice, you can choose not to get the updated version, I am sure some servers will keep their servers running the old map. Campaigns will still support the old map, all the current missions are still there. Nothing will change for you if you want to stay with 1.0. Please do not make more drama where there is none. Sadly sometimes to move things forward hard choices need to be made.

  20. From my understanding of how the TH-CSF 196 sight should operate, the target reticle that appears when radar lock is achieved should always be visible on the sight glass. Even when the locked target is outside of it, the reticle should move towards the target to show the relative direction but then stop within the limits of travel. My source for this is a manual for the Libyan Mirage F1ED which uses the same sight as our F1CE. The manual is not classified or restricted, so I will post a couple of screenshots that I think indicate this behavior.

  21. Dear pilots! We are happy to announce the DCS: La-7 project! The Lavochkin La-7 is the legendary fighter of the end of the Second World War, the crown of creation of Soviet aircraft designers, a multiple winner in many air duels, the workhorse of the most famous ace of the Red Army Air Force, Ivan Nikitovich Kozhedub. The La-7 aircraft is equipped with a powerful ASh-82FN piston engine - the pinnacle of air-cooled engines, and armed with formidable 20-mm ShVAK cannons. High performance allows this fighter to confidently compete with the best Germany and Western combat fighters. During developing this module, our team naturally relies on the experience of developing the DCS: I-16. La-7’s Flight Model is a further development of the highly acclaimed I-16’s Flight Model and is being created using the same technologies. The module is at high degree of readiness, and the planned date for entering Early Access is early 2023.

  25. Main question I have is - will it be possible to have different weather conditions in different parts of the map, or is it just the general theme that will change slightly depending on the wind etc over the entirety of the map? What we really need is the ability to have totally different weather conditions in different parts of the map, and have them change. And most importantly (which is driving lots of us insane I'm sure) to have different winds in different parts of the map. I should not be punished for having 30kts of wind i nthe middle of the desert just because I want to have 30kts in the middle of the sea for my carrier...

  27. Dear @draconus, @v81, @nthere, I'm new in DCS forums so I do not know how things run here but I have seen ED shutting down topics because of such discussions. I beg you, please do not to bring this topic to that point that it gets locked. Let's stay on the topic. We know DCS needs lots of improvement in many aspects but main point of my post is to give huge improvement for least amount of work. This topic is not the place to discuss it. I don't wish this to get lost. I hope you understand. Kindest regards,

  28. When I found Mediascrpt two years ago i was amazed with the quality of their publications. Wish polish books about aviation units were even remotely close to that. I don't speak German really well, but in the era of smartphones and dynamic translators, one can make do. Can't wait for their books about JG-3 and JG-8. Some day, sometime, who knows. Though I favor PF over PFM because of the canopy.

  29. For me it's not just about the framerate even though improvements would be nice, but it's also about the image quality obtainable within that CPU-bound framerate - being able to go from 100%SS/VR/0MSAA to 150%SS/High Quality Textures/4xMSAA at the same framerate makes it feel like a whole new game

  30. I'm disappointed that the main reviewers don't use any VR titles in their benchmarks. VR is the only gaming use case I can see that pushes these super-high end cards. Also, I think VR has suffered from the state of the GPU market. The barrier to VR is high when it comes with requirements for a modern card, and those cards are being scalped, used for mining and are generaly super-expensive. The MSRP of the 40 series is not helping to solve this issue, although I am hopeful for price reductions once the 30 series stock has cleared - especially for the 4080 and 4070 which are ridiculous at the moment. Finally, I'm hoping that the 7900XT is a rasterisation beast. RT, DLSS etc are of absolutely no use to DCS players so a high rasterisation score is all I'm looking for.

  33. A lot of these inaccuracies exist throughout all eras of DCS not just with the modern day environment. For example SIGINT and other parts of EW even in the late 60's and 70 played a huge role in air warfare, with the difference asside from performance and capability being that the required technologies were not integrated into every aircraft and vehicle you could find. Yet the environment pilots had to operate in often posed simmilar challanges as todays battlefields. The fact is that DCS when it comes to the simulation of most sensors is rather superficial. Even something as well documented and studied as radar in DCS barely goes beyond what is needed to give the player a believable interaction with his aircraft and its surroundings. (In 2022 DCS is still using non-directional RCS estimates) Even the so beloved 80's cold war era can hardly be represented by DCS in a fashion that would truely do justice to the expectations of a realistic warfare simulation. The only reason why we suddenly see a handfull of people complaining about it being pointless to try and simulate modern day aicraft in DCS, is the realisation that an aspect that was already missing throughout DCS is suddenly turning into a specific part of an airframe you can point at.

  35. There actually is, its called fuel quantity indicator. If you are in full burner you can see fuel quantity dropping by hundred pounds every couple of seconds, so no need for a/b ff indicator note: Ive actually looked up SFC at max thrust of both TF-30 and F110 and they both use about 16 lbs/s per engine. So you are about 100lbs of fuel lighter every 3s on full burner.

  39. I don't see a uplift in FPS in that guys findings, exept for high SS settings. I am not on the hunt for more FPS, but basically want it smnooth during the whole spectrum of gameplay. My setting (3080TI and 5900x) starts to suck in MP and a busy boat for example. In SP I guess I could benifit from smaler farmetimes while FPS is no issue. There is no way arounde a optimization of the DCS core if you ask me

  41. My 2 cents; 1. Farnborough and Heathrow are irrelevant airfield choices; there are far better choices better relevant to the aircraft available in DCS. For example there are a slew of Advanced Landing Grounds based in the New Forest area west of the Solent that would be eminently suitable for the P-47; additionally RAF Thorney Island would make a prototypical home for fighter bomber Mosquitoes on the Normandy map. I have already provided information pertaining to these in these forums. 2. The lack of airfields that otherwise appear on the Channel map is disappointing; if ED are willing to share their development data for these airfields (Biggin, Detling, Manston etc) it opens up far more flexibility for mission makers who wish to make historically authentic missions to utilise both maps as appropriate to the mission target whilst keeping the player’s home base accurate - for example I might want to use 132 sqn based at Detling but attack a target that appears only on the Normandy. Previously I would have either had to use the channel map to have the correct home base but make the target in an inaccurate location or alternatively, use the Normandy map but use the wrong airfield to base the player at and have the target in it’s prototypical location. I was hoping this quandary would have been a thing if the past. 3. Since day 1 of Normandy 1 being announced many of us have been asking for the ability to remove/redact or otherwise have a version without the French allied ALGs; this would allow for the map to be prototypical for a far wider period than having them baked in. Is there any way that the locations could be left as grass field locations and for mission makers to load in templates to show the ALGs as required by mission date? 4. If any detail is required on any airfield layout I am happy to assist, free of charge, and provide relevant documentation, maps etc to ED or Urga. Please PM me. 5. There are a few of the large Luftwaffe airfields in France that are often referenced in allied combat reports (Poix, Montdidier) that aren’t included but the tiny (and operationally almost irrelevant) Fecamp field is; what is the justification for this choice?
