Yes, the model is based on the WWII version. I removed a lot of the smaller AA guns and we're currently adding a tripod mast. Changing the bridge windows should come next. Check https://github.com/tspindler-cms/tetet-vwv for the references to the models used in the mod. Contemplating currently how to proceed with CVA-31 Bon Homme Richard. The model is still in development and has not been rigged properly for DCS, but as a teaser a first screenshot. You can follow the development along at https://github.com/tspindler-cms/DCS-Essex - once it's in a more complete state I'll add it to Vietnam War Vessels. Cheers, TeTeT null6 points

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, Our Autumn Sale is still ongoing and now also on Steam. Don’t miss this opportunity to take advantage of up to 50% discount on our most important modules. We continue to work on Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) texturing of the ships and ground forces in DCS. We are also working on more realistic thermal signatures for the deck crew on board DCS: Supercarrier. Please read the details below. The Tempest multiplayer server is running their Blue Flash V3 campaign, and we encourage you to go and check them out. They offer both fixed and rotary-wing action on a variety of missions that involve team coordination to attack and defend front lines, strategic locations, and high-value assets. The Q&A will be coming soon. The sheer volume of data and information has made this task more challenging than expected but the feedback has been wonderful. Many thanks for all your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/newsletters/0c5457dd41f3b328cc19a7ca41e72467/5 points

This was found and fixed internally a few weeks back. I'll let it slip that I've also re-wrote ext apps launch function, to allow user to change the order the apps launch, before or after the sim, and the delay time in ms between app launches, etc. A lot of cleaning up and stuff needs to be done before the next pub release, with me working 80+ hr work weeks, I haven't had time to productively code anything.3 points

Here's a very quick test version with updated Moose. I haven't tested it more than confirmed that the score starts tracking and I don't get any weird warnings in the log. Please test it if you have the time, and let me know if anything seems off. @zildac @captain_dalan @japagi @speed-of-heat @Richard Lim @Cobalt135 @Mad_Taz @Iriya @Cepheus76 @marcoy Thanks a lot for the reports. "is the Viggen navigation system inertial or not" - the greatest debate in the history of forums, locked by a moderator after 12,239 pages of heated debate, dril references aside, this question has come up a couple of times before, and earlier today @Rudel_chw asked this in a direct message. This post is mostly a reaction to that. My answer to the question is "not really", or "not primarily". It does use dead reckoning just like an inertial navigation system (INS) does, and it does use accelerometers and attitude gyros just like an INS does, but it does not primarily rely on them, so it's not really inertial. Pseudo-inertial? Partially-inertial? Whatever you might call it. An INS by the usual definition of the term only (or at least primarily) relies on accelerometers and attitude gyroscopes to calculate how it's being moved. The accelerometers measure the acceleration of whatever they're mounted to, and the attitude gyros measure the attitude relative to the earth, and if you combine the two you can figure out how the entire system is moving relative to the Earth. That means an INS is by definition ground-referenced (or rather referenced to Earth's field of gravity, I guess). The Viggen system on the other hand is primarily atmosphere-referenced. I've translated a block diagram from the SFI: As you can see, it starts not from inertial measurements but rather from air data measurements. First it uses temperature and air data to calculate the true airspeed. Then the angle of attack is used to calculate an estimate of the vertical and longitudinal speed separately (transverse speed is assumed to be negligible here). This is then combined with attitude information from the FLI-37 ADI and the autopilot's moment gyros to calculate the aircraft's true velocity vector relative to the air. To get the movement relative to the ground (which is what we actually want), the nav program then compensates for wind speed, which is either measured using a doppler radar (ground speed measurement), or forecast wind as programmed into the computer (input with VIND/RUTA/MÅL). The ground-referenced velocity vector is then calculated and integrated every 103 milliseconds to continually keep the aircraft's position updated. This isn't quite good enough though. There are two problems: first, transverse speed (side to side) can't be calculated from air data, and second, the air data system reacts too slowly to really make this precise enough. To mitigate these problems, there's an accelerometer unit that measures acceleration in the longitudinal and vertical axes; acceleration in the transverse axis is taken from the transverse accelerometer that's used for the autopilot's sideslip correction system (y'know that RENFLYGN knob nobody ever touches). These accelerometers react much faster than the air data system, and so they're used to correct the velocity vector calculated from air data. This taken as a whole is good enough. So, in the transverse axis the system actually is a "real" inertial navigation system - it relies purely on attitude gyros and accelerometers to determine movement in that axis. This, the SFI says, is acceptable because the velocity in the transverse axis is usually more or less net zero (the aircraft doesn't typically fly sideways, after all), with only small variations back and forth, so relying purely on acceleration gives sufficient precision. You might ask though, if the aircraft has attitude gyros and accelerometers anyway, why not just go purely inertial? The main answer is that to do that you'd need much more expensive equipment. You need more precision than the Viggen's gyros and accelerometers actually have to make it work well, and probably you'd need a dedicated computer for it too. INS systems were absolute state of the art in the early 1960's when the Viggen was designed, with the Minuteman and Apollo guidance systems being some of the first really practical examples. You couldn't just buy an INS off-the-shelf in the 60's; Saab would've had to design one in-house. INS became a lot cheaper and more reliable in the 80's with better computers and the commercialization of the ring laser gyro. The Viggen system isn't as accurate as a real INS, but at the time it had a significant cost advantage. It's noteworthy that almost the entire system is just a software program that runs in the CK 37. The only hardware it uses that the aircraft wouldn't otherwise have are the two accelerometers for the longitudinal and vertical axes. It also has the side benefit that it's capable of cold starting in two minutes flat because the gyros just aren't that sensitive. True INS systems of the era could take tens of minutes to align from a cold start. It was an engineering compromise: good enough to fulfill the requirements the air force had, but not more complex and expensive than it had to be.2 points

This occurs due to “Mach Lever Shift” of the Mach Lever System. Mach lever shift increases engine idle speed in the subsonic and high AOA regime to provide increased stall margins. Below 0.9 IMN, if AOA is increased to 18 units or more, the CADC input to the Mach lever trim system is replaced by a fixed value equivalent to 1.3 IMN, which spools up the engine automatically, regardless of throttle lever position. It’s modeled correctly.2 points

All fair points @rkk01, and agreed re North and South bounds. I think all Easting - at least as far as Szczecin-Berlin-Dresden - would add to gameplay for a high fidelity Lancaster module. The sense of relief at being briefed for a short run to Bremen for example...! @Reflected, the legend, is all over it: Save game option would still be great, but long range no longer holds things back like it used to.2 points

Tempest’s Blue Flash Многопользовательский сервер The Tempest’s Blue Flash – это ближайший родственник известного Enigma's Cold War, но, теперь работающий на движке 3 версии! Blue Flash V3. Ok you guys might be disrespecting the F-15E a little too much on the STRIKE EAGLE'S forum!!!! It can't pull it's nose up quite so fast but the engines will still push through any beep-beep, beep-beep like it's nothing:2 points

What? It's the perfect variant for Cold War scenarios, just not early or mid. It's perfect for late Cold War scenarios (and the late Cold War is the one we have the most assets for) and was introduced in time for when the late Cold War came the closest to actually going hot. The 9-12 MiG-29 is still in service with an operator currently at war. If we ever got an F-16A Block 10/15 (arguably the most prolific NATO fighter of the late Cold War and one for which we'll have a relevant map for), the 9-12 MiG-29 is the closest peer contemporary. On the contrary, what maps, current or in development that are appropriate for the MiG-29K? What conflicts has it been involved in? The 9-12 not only fits the Cold War, but the Gulf War and Bosnia (albeit without the maps in DCS). We already have a map featuring 9-12 (albeit 9-12B) MiG-29 operators (Iran on the PG map, Iraq on Syria). I'm not opposed to a MiG-29K (though a Kr would probably be more appropriate, at least we already have the carrier and some escorts for it, unlike the K for which we have 0 Indian ships), but saying it fits better than a 9-12 because of maps, conflicts and eras is just unsubstantiated.2 points

You could realistically crop anything south of Cologne or east and north of Hamburg. Still a huge map, and would certainly trigger the age old discussions around a game save or time acceleration I think the flight time / distance element is another reason to look at the raids on Caen and the Pas de Calais2 points

Thanks for the suggestion, draconus. I took a look at the log file and searched for anything relating to the F-15 and found an error line referencing the F-15E-CPT.dll file being blocked by bitlocker encryption. The drive that DCS is installed on is not encrypted, but another division on the same NVME was (nothing DCS related in there). I disabled the encryption of that other drive, and then booted the game and was able to load in fine - so it appears that it's fixed. TLDR solution: Having bitlocker encryption enabled on the same physical drive as your DCS install will block loading of the required .dll file. Appreciate your help!2 points

Just a thought, but if Don touched/helped you in some way you can leave a message here for his family. They should know he had MANY friends out in the world.. https://www.echovita.com/us/obituaries/fl/apopka/donald-burnette-172039922 points

Again as @Slick Twitchy said THANK YOU.. early in October Don was asking about Aero headset recommendations complaining only of his “ear wax” build up and what would be a good upgrade when he went got his ear cleaned. The brief suggestions and interactions with Don on this subject not only proved he was a scholar but also a gentlemen.. everything we could all strive to be. I would be letting Don down if I didn’t share his and mine comfort in knowing our Lord Jesus’s promises in eternal life. If you followed Don thread in “Chit-Chat” of “My Current Situation” please do. Very powerful in his amazing peace about his situation and eternal position flying formation in God’s Air Force. RIP @dburne ;I know I will see you in a better place Brother2 points

Good Afternoon everyone. Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it. I would like to thank you all for your support and kind words. It means a lot. It shows you are human. We all go through something that slows us down in life but it's up to all of us to push through it and keep moving. I am recovering slowly. It has really been a long year and it's not over yet. I am feeling much better but I'm still bothered by pain here in there. Hopefully, in a few weeks, I will be back up and running at full steam again. To keep my mind occupied I worked on the HMS Richmond. I think she is 99% finished. Thanks to CH, Eddie, Toan, and Marroux for the testing and giving me advice. Teamwork makes the dream work. This model was actually made for printing I think but I made it work. It does what it should in DCS. I have created three Liveries for the UK and Chile. Stay Tuned!2 points

In NAV mode, you can select any FCR mode (CRM, ACM, GMT, GM, SEA) and CRM submodes (RWS, TWS, VSR) and if you leave NAV and go back, it keeps the same mode and submode you had selected. In AA or MSL Override modes, the same happens for both the FCR mode (you can select only CRM or ACM) and submodes - if you leave and go back to AA or MSL Override, it retains the mode you had selected. The same does not happen in AG mode - it always reset back to GM, even though you had GMT or SEA selected. This doesn't make sense from the overall ergonomics of the jet. Note that it always resets to AGR (air-ground ranging) when a visual submode of munitions is selected, and this is correct. However if a pre-planned submode of munitions is selected, it should retain whatever ground mapping mode it had before (either GM, GMT or SEA). Track attached. F16 does not persist AG radar mode.trk2 points

Yeah, I can see how separating them between unguided and guided bombs would be useful. Perhaps it would also make sense to have decoys as its own category, separated from AG missiles (which should probably be named AS missiles (for air-to-surface) seeing as that category includes missiles that aren't capable of ground-attack).2 points

You should go look up the principles behind TDOA, TDOA is Time difference of Arrival, not angular measurements. Each station is receiving and synchronizing the time of arrival of a particular signal and using that time sync to generate a location. With 1 station all you get is a range, thus a circle around your aircraft. 2 stations would give you a pair of potential locations, and 3 stations gives you a very accurate location. This does not work the same way as angle based triangulation systems. Each intersection of a circle is the potential location of the target, only where all three intersect is the true location.2 points

The hand controller swap functions are sweet, but in the heat of the action you sometimes forget which side you are currently controlling. Would it be possible to create a special option to display an advisory text onscreen (e.g. Top Left of the screen) or some kind of overlay letting you know at all times? Thanks for reading my ramblings...1 point

F-5E even if entered service in the 70's, is still operated to this day by many countries, issue with F-5E loadout is rather DCS systemic than module related, thare are plenty of weapons after 1970 that were added without ingerention into or with little ingeretion into avionics. System with no timeline based loadouts limit content per module, you are more or less forced into playing very narrow window of time, and again some weapons are just missing, even for 70's time, maybe we get Shrikes for F-5E after Phantom realese somehow, free A-4 mod have Shrikes, very far from being game changer gameplay wise, with like maybe 20% accuracy at best, but at least give option that was historically availble and reflect historical effectivnes of the weapon, or lack of it Again, nobody is asking for Amraams, Maverics and other stuff that require new FCS, HUD and MFD's to work, just really basic weapons, like ungaided munitions and slighty more modern Sidewinders, even Aim 9L would be an upgrade.1 point

We're talking about reality here, not our game. But yeah, F-16A defenitely had better radar, amraams, link 16, jhmcs and 9x in 1980s1 point
