I understand your point Tavarish, I don't doubt it either. What I mean is that it's very difficult for the missile to reach that in normal combat conditions, an F-14B loaded in the DCS with 4 AIM-54 on average can accelerate to 1.4/1.6 mach with a lot of effort using a very smooth climb profile to 40k. Maybe you don't know I'll give you a summary of what happened to the Phoenix in this game (And why i'm still here): First the missile arrived with CFD data that generated a white paper that was made available, but due to flaws in the game engine the missile had a kind of “ convulsion ” when it activated its radar and drained almost all of its energy. What did the developer do with the missile? add a lot of thrust to compensate for this, where the missile became in game terms “overpowered” and above all made the missile very unrealistic with a no escape zone in the deck of almost 10nm, quickly the Phoenix and the F-14 became a nightmare in “multiplayer online matches” as it clearly had a “wonder-weapon” all this generated animosity against the AIM-54. After some time and many complaints, corrections were made returning the missile to the state of the initial CFD studies (these studies were later deleted by the developer) then new corrections were made according to the NASA simulations we saw earlier in this thread, making the missile perhaps more realistic. However, after the adjustments that brought the missile closer to the NASA documents, more and more adjustments were made, reducing the missile's thrust to the point where NASA's own study was no longer valid. These later adjustments were made on a “trust me, bro” basis, with no public data available for validation. I don't want to use the “I work with this” card because I don't exactly work in the aerospace industry, but in my work we also use precision data, and when the information varies a lot and we don't have a reliable source (which seems to be happening with the AIM-54) the only thing that can save us are studies and mathematics That's where you come into the discussion, because so far you're the only one who has brought data, formulas and something that can be validated here. That's when I decided to continue “fighting” for the truth so that the missile is as close to the real thing as possible. But from the amount of attacks and argumentative fights I suffer here, it seems that this is more of a developer's fan club then an actual discussion topic about a Improvements & Overhaul. (at least here it's more civilized than discord where I was almost lynched)I don't remember the exact term, but your whole study there was called something like “Russian reverse engineering delusion” I don't care about the arguments, I just want the science behind it, If the missile is proven to be right the way it is, that's fine with me, As an enthusiast I'm here looking for the best experience I can get and to know where it came from. Again thanks for you, for your effort here. And as long as I'm allowed to, or when the data is released so that the current performance can be validated, I'll say that the game's current missile is a “guesswork-based delusion” I even apologize for this, but after so many attacks for simply questioning something I can't just stay on the defensive.9 points

It's an Expansion Mod I am working on, originally the Wing Tanks Mod, has been expanded to Wintip tanks, Drop tanks, ILS/VOR, VHF, ADF Antennas and Export, Skoshi AAR Probes. But it was back burnered by some other priority projects in progress, w/ F-5E 2024 being public, I will likely hold the mod until after the remaster is released, and modify the Expansion mod to use either Legacy or Remastered files. I've already started working on re-building weapons table, and giving AI Export versions AGMs etc etc. And like I've been doing for other projects I'm working on/partnering with, This mod will install 100% in the SG folder and not have to be merged, managed, removed, re-installed after a DCS Update or break IC. Discussion / Updates on that mod were posted here: As for the ADF Antenna on the Stab / Spine? Brazil has those.6 points

I will buy it even if zero new features. All the old modules need some upgrade, and people can't work for free. Better a huey 2 or a f-86 2 for 10 bucks, even without new systems, than a brand new mig-29 while you let the older modules rot in decay. I will buy f-5 2 and every other pay upgrade of older modules, provided that it's not just a new shiny look: the bugs must be carefully watched and corrected, both for the upgrade buyers and for people who will not upgrade.6 points

SharpeXB, Yes I run DCS in VR, a Pimax headset. Understood about other games, however: 1. The game in question has been "off the market" for 20 years. Shockingly, their solution to the problem of seeing other units was/is better than anything DCS has offered. Regarding the "exceedingly awkward" comment, did you ever see the solution applied by the other sim-which-shall-not-be-named? It worked great. 2. If DCS is not going to utilize corporate "best practices" no wonder they have issues that do not get resolved. 3. Zoom view in VR is idiotic and a bandaide solution for a sucking chest wound. I flew actual combat missions with a set of USSR binoculars back in the 90s. The experience was so funny my squadron made jokes about it. Totally useless. 4. That ED does not want to use "smart scaling" is acknowledgement they have a problem and they are not going to fix it. This validates my suggestion that the programmers really need to fly in actual aircraft and get some real world experience. My observation of DCS is they are more about the shiny new toy (new airframes/terrains) than fixing things in the background of existing products that make for a great experience. Eventually this method of operation collapses under its own weight as the underlying support structure is weak. This is akin to building a skyscraper with no foundation. DCS is a good product. Good is bad in the world of combat, however. Every flight I took in uniform had a debrief afterward where we broke things down into two categories, good and bad. Bads were things that needed attention and improvement. Without that critical review of every mission we would have ended up like every other banana republic's military, flashy but a joke. DCS needs to become more introspective of their products and how to improve them instead of trying to roll out more and more new items. Taking good ideas from others and using them is far more cost effective and logical than trying to create the wheel from scratch every time one needs to transport something. Eventually, someone in the market who is willing to do think outside the box will overtake DCS and it will end up in the dustbin. ShareXP, Respectfully, I did forget another point. A spotting dot does not give one the aspect and attitude of other aircraft. Without that information no tactically sound decision can be made on how to respond to a threat or even if it is a threat as one does not know if it is hot, cold, maneuvering, etc. Richrach4 points

06.04.1999 - Mig-29 combat flight - Boro Zoraja Pilot: Major Boro Zoraja Airplane type: L-18 (MIG-29 9.12b) Airplane ID: 18101 Time: April 6th 1999, 23:00 Take off: Airbase Ponikve Landing: Airbase Lađevci Flight length: 40 minutes Interview with Major Boro Zoraja, pilot of MiG-29 1st video segment at 09:41 09:46 Narrator: While Major Milenković was waiting for a U2 mission, new orders were received at Ponikve airport. 09:55 Boro Zoraja: Exactly at the point when we went off duty and undressed for rest, around 23:00 the "Buzzer" (alert phone line) rang. 10:09 Boro Zoraja: I responded to the call. They gave us signal 1-into-number-1; take off, 6000 m, zone of expectation Kruševac, landing at airport Niš. 10:19 Major Milenković: "I will go to the car." 10:22 Major Milenković (loudly): "Number 1, lets go!" 10:24 Boro Zoraja: Once I sounded the alert, I started to dress. 10:31 Boro Zoraja: I took my uniform on, and hooked the upper part of the Anti-G suit, took Helmet into hand, and went to the vehicle together with Major Milenković. 10:42 Boro Zoraja: I continued dressing in the vehicle. 10:45 Boro Zoraja: The only thing I was thinking about was not to miss any of the details of the aircraft inspection and aircraft startup procedure. 10:51 Boro Zoraja: I did not rush when I was set into the aircraft, in order not to make a mistake. 11:01 Boro Zoraja: About other things I did not think about at all. You know, you think only about the assignment and that is your priority. 11:07 Boro Zoraja: You simply can not think about the family, friends or anybody else. 11:10 Boro Zoraja: You think only about the things you need to do at that moment. 11:15 ATC(radio): "Orao 356, full startup, as soon as possible to the runway!" 11:19 ATC(radio): "356th QFE 9-6-6, expectation zone Kruševac, 6000 m, report at traverse Užička Požega." 11:27 Boro Zoraja: I have confirmed, arrived in the zone Kruševac, reported arrival and they told me to take one of corso, left or right and await further instructions. 11:41 Boro Zoraja: I have made several 8s in the zone Kruševac, and at one moment, my SPO device for radiation signalling went wild. 11:53 Boro Zoraja: I heard the sound in headphones and SPO was fully lit and blinking. 11:57 Boro Zoraja: This means that I am locked by the enemy, who has already launched the missile(s) and that I have very little time to avoid the missiles. 12:06 Remark: story is interrupted and the narrator continues the story of Major Nebojša Nikolić. I will skip these parts and continue with the testimony of Boro Zoraja. 2nd video segment at 19:22 19:23 Narrator: Pilot Boro Zoraja is locked by enemy planes, missiles were launched at him and he had just a few seconds to attempt the escape manoeuvre. 19:36 Boro Zoraja: I pulled the stick onto one side, I do not remember which now, left or right and pulled up. 19:43 Boro Zoraja: I have pulled left and right, changed the turn, while climbing all the time, arriving at 8000 m, when I managed to drop their lock. 19:53 Boro Zoraja: The SPO device stopped showing a threat and there was no more sound in headphones 19:57 Boro Zoraja (radio to GCI officer): "Orao 356, I dropped outside of the lock, report the information on the enemy!" 20:03 Boro Zoraja (radio to GCI officer): "Olymp, Orao 356, do we hear each other. Please, Olymp 356, confirm if you hear me!" 20:11 Boro Zoraja: I repeated these messages several times, and while doing so, I started a free hunt, to scan and seek for the enemy 20:19 Boro Zoraja: I came to 6000 m and was on course between 130 and 140, and I detected 3 targets. 20:25 Boro Zoraja: I selected the nearest target and established the lock, the radar switched from scanning into targeting mode. 20:34 Boro Zoraja: That mode allows me to see the range of the targets. 20:38 Boro Zoraja: The target was at a distance of about 35 km, and was moving toward me. 20:43 Boro Zoraja: My next action was to flip the cover for missile launch trigger up, since we had a very high closure rate. 20:51 Boro Zoraja: It was just a few seconds and in the meantime he was already at a distance of 30 km, and at that moment I got spiked by them again, and SPO started to indicate I have been locked, while radar dropped the lock. 21:06 Boro Zoraja: My next reaction was simply to escape the missile launched at me. 21:12 Boro Zoraja: Again, 2000 m lower at ~4000 m, I managed to drop the lock, and started turning to search for them. 21:20 Boro Zoraja: I switched the radar into DOGON mode (pursuit mode) and started to chase after them. 21:20 Remark: While he speaks, the HUD is displayed showing active Radar and occasional targets. Note: this might not be original recording. 21:27 Boro Zoraja: At this point they were at the distance of 45 to 47 km, I locked the gas and chased them at the speed of 1000 km/h. 21:35 Boro Zoraja: What next! The only thing that worried me was that my missiles will not go off the rails, since I did not have the signal showing that the missiles are still mounted. 21:43 Boro Zoraja: I chased them for about 3 minutes, perhaps a bit more at that speed, while they moved toward south, toward heading 190. 21:55 Boro Zoraja: At that point I have been reaching the borders of (Northern) Macedonia and Bulgaria, when at some point I decided to abort. 22:04 Boro Zoraja: So what happened? The 3 targets split: 2 of them went to the left and right, while the 3rd continued straight. 22:15 Boro Zoraja: At that point I decided to interrupt the pursuit, turned the jet towards North and continued toward Niš. 22:15 Remark: According to later interview of Dragan Milenković, Boro Zoraja has landed at Lađevci airport, since at Niš airport there was no response over the radio. 22:20 Boro Zoraja: My flight was 40 minutes long, and this was the longest flight during the aggression. 22:25 Remark: story is interrupted again and the narrator continues the story of Major Nebojša Nikolić. I will skip these parts and continue with the testimony of Boro Zoraja. 3rd video segment at 50:40 50:40 Boro Zoraja: We were truly inferior, primarily due to having missiles of shorter range, and they could launch their missiles from distances of over 60 km at us. 50:53 Boro Zoraja: Accordingly, I had to get very close in order to achieve the conditions for the launch of missiles. 51:00 Boro Zoraja: This has to be under 30 km, in order for missiles to leave the rail, while they could do the same thing at distance of 60 km. 53:39 Boro Zoraja: Our radio connection with Operation Center and VOJIN systems, which are used for guidance, did not work, and essentially we had to rely on ourselves and onboard electronics. 53:39 Remark: VOJIN is acronym "vazduhoplovno osmatranje, javljanje i navođenje" - aerial surveillance, reporting and guidance. 53:53 Boro Zoraja: I got those enemy targets in free hunting (search mode). 54:01 Boro Zoraja: The only other thing I could do, was to accelerate toward them and hit them directly with my own jet, but doing this under night conditions is practically impossible. Interview with Major Dragan Milenković, talks about the events after Boro Zoraja proceeded to land at Niš airport. 4th video segment at 46:29 46:29 Remark: This is only part of a much longer interview with Dragan Milenković. The part I have transcribed is the one where he talks what happened after Boro Zoraja proceeded to land at Niš airport. 46:29 Dragan Milenković: According to the fuel level, he got the command for landing. 46:37 Dragan Milenković: He could not land at Niš airbase. Since nobody responded over the radio at Niš, he landed at airbase Lađevci, near Kraljevo. 46:47 Dragan Milenković: Since the complete pilot and maintenance crews, and aircraft support vehicles have remained at Ponikve, we have relocated the crews and equipment to Lađevci. 47:06 Dragan Milenković: We have continued our duty within RV and PVO at airport Lađevci. 47:11 Host: Since the plan of U-2 spy airplane intercept mission attempt was cancelled, you have received the new mission orders, and if I am correct it was on April 8th? 47:28 Dragan Milenković: That is correct. After the landing in late ours on April 6th (to April 7th), we have relocated and arrived at airbase Lađevci during the night... 47:43 Dragan Milenković: After familiarization with the situation, upon inspection of the airplane, maintenance crew have established that one of the course verticals is not working. 47:43 Remark: During the original documentary the date of flight is incorrectly stated as April 7th. This was likely due to the fact that the original report could be written only after the night relocation. Reconstructed flight The provided map is rough reconstruction based on interview and publicly known information. Sources 1. I have been sorely disappointed with the Phantom F-4E module because I cannot see threat aircraft. When I cannot even tell the orientation of another aircraft at one mile there is a serious disconnect between reality and the DCS model. Trying to fix this with a "spotting bug" or dot is silly. Falcon 3.0 and Falcon 4.0 solved this problem by allowing the user to adjust the size of other units (aircraft and ground units) to user preference. I found setting the size to x2 on my screens gave nearly the exact same visual presentation as I saw in actual ACM. Since another sim has solved this problem, what is the reason DCS cannot adapt the same solution? Is this a pride thing? Is it a legal issue? Falcon 4.0 has been gone for decades now. The issue manifests itself when trying to see vehicles on the ground as well, but it is nowhere near as bad. My eyes are average, my vision neither excellent nor poor. When I flew at NSAWC on staff I could see the direction, aspect, and maneuvering of an F-16, F-18, or F-14 at three to four miles routinely, five miles on a bright day. I will not buy any more modules that focus on air to air until this is fixed because it is so frustrating. ***It is my strongest suggestion all the DCS programmers actually go flying and see what the real world looks like, then make the game match what they saw.*** This does not have to be in fast movers. One can get the same impressions flying light civil aircraft. Again, from personal experience, I can see more details of a Cessna or Piper at two miles in real life than I can see a transport/tanker sized aircraft in DCS at one mile. Richrach3 points

They simply changed the names of the texture sheets called by the model from "low_S3B_" to "low_KS-3A_" as pointed out by Stackup. Simply changing those in the description.lua makes the skins usable again. I've attached an example description.lua3 points

The overhaul of the F-5 is great news. 10 bucks is a fair price - don't understand why quite some people complain about this. It's two cups of coffee for a nice update to a great module. Aim-9 Limas would be appreciated, of course, as well as a refueling probe and maybe some weapons used on export variants of the F-5.3 points

Version 2.0.0 -- 20241127 - "Convoy Hunters" FEATURE UPDATE Download (please click here) Winter has come to Caucasus; unease lingers in the air. At Beslan, the cold warriors of the West have assembled, while Mineralnye Vody now hosts Eastern’s winged fury. On this January morning, frost mingles with snow from the ground as Wind Walkers, heads filled with fire, don wings of iron and rise to meet their challenge between the clouds. Are you ready to rise with them? Are you ready to fly? * "The Snows of Sorrow" is a cold war era sandbox, designed to help you and your friends get comfortable with the great machines of that time: this mission is cold war planes only, armed to their teeth, relying on your sheer skills to drive them. Things to do: Fixed wings: Air to Ground There is an enemy forward base to attack (see your map). The base will defend itself. And then there's "Convoy Alley": lots of trucks that re-supply the enemy forward base. Hunt along the alley and look for prey on the ground, and the occasional rotorwing escort. Both may be armed... Air-to-Air There is a 'CAP' area marked out for your faction. Inside this area, pilots can choose to call up and engage enemy fighters and heavies. Unlike enemy fighters. the heavies are undefended. Formation and Intercept/escort Note that these flights are entirely non-confrontational exercises. Call up a similar (i.e. same type as yours) or dissimilar plane to join their wing and fly in formation. Or call up a heavy to intercept and escort (but do not attack!). Helicopters Troop Insertion Load up your troops. There's a building (marked on the map) where you are tasked to deliver them to the roof. For the Huey, it's not that difficult, the RED version requires you to land on a high rise, requiring substantially more skill Air to Ground Just like fixed wings, you can harass the enemy forward base (marked "FWD" on your map), or hunt convoys that resupply the base. Be advised that convoys may be defended by helicopters. Sling Load Sling loads are ready for helicopters to pick up at the green smoke. You are tasked to transport these loads to the area marked "SLING" and also marked with green smoke Formation and Intercept/escort Call up a similar or dissimilar helicopter and join their wing to fly in formation. Or call up a heavy friendly helicopter to intercept and escort. PVP When you fly your plane outside your faction's zone, players from the other faction may (are allowed to) attack you. Of course, the rules of engagement may vary between servers, and requires that players are around. Outside the CAP lanes, no AI pilot will attack a player NEVER, EVER try to engage the other faction's airfield. That's the way to a quick, dusty death. Note to server owners: "Snows" uses stopGap for much better scenery. When run in multiplayer, you should install the tiny "stopGap GUI" script on your server for better protection against some nasty DCS synchronization bugs (player planes or helicopters 'fall to the ground' on slotting in) Note: "Snows" is my first attempt at cold war scenarios. I welcome all feedback - and hope to have that help me craft some more action-oriented cold war missions in the vein of "Expansion".2 points

@Katsu Russian reverse engineering delusion they said Where it was, why you didn’t call me to participate in that nice conversation Internet is such a great thing, so many valuable things you can find and learn on it (in my time I had to go in library and wait my time to get a books when return from others), but like in wrongly “used” democracy where everyone has rights to “open mouth” , also so many rubbish, unfortunately rubbish long time ago overtook it. I like your point, the one when having no solid answers in written form, to find it using same principles used by developers of that thing of interest, in this case rocket motor. Although rocket motors are not simple to understand, still everything inside of it are just simple physical processes…fun fact…those are same on east and on west Indeed I use some formulas described by one Russian scientist long time ago, before these guys called that as delusion, most probably haven’t been born. I was reading recently Warthunder forum, mostly same discussion about Phoenix and motor particularly because motors are of highest interest of mine. There were some good things to read there…unfortunately I was not able to write there because that forum is just for those playing that game …but also so many…hmmm…how to say and to be polite. Few weeks it’s silence there, and they have been so close to figure it out. Of course, over there is like you described, discussion between developers “fan club” and those who questioning One guy was so close, it was topic for who knows how many times started and never ended, specific impulse of motor…and on literally next page from literature he shared everything is crystal clear, how specific impulse is changing with altitude, pressures and nozzle expansion ratio…but fan club concluded…it is same old motor like early Mk36 of Sidewinder and old motors are…just old and having low specific impulse of something about 230s or 240s…OMG Fun fact again…even propellant in historically old HVAR rocket had 235s impulse, but propellant useless for wide temperature range. What I want to say…actually I will not…it can’t be said shortly and there are so many variables. Phoenix…why it’s vanished…because war theater (threat) is changed. One of primary tasks of Phoenix was fighting fast flying high altitude targets no other missile can reach (Phoenix was designed that way to have such possibilities…nozzle expansion ratio etc etc) but low flying cruise missiles also appeared, local conflicts with targets of different kinds…Phoenix became unnecessary assets…of course traditional American sense of business made its job as well So, no matter of anything, Phoenix deserves truth. This motor although I’m not huge fan of American principles of building rocket motors is actually really nice piece of work2 points

I do, but I admit that my attention at that point is on whatever aircraft I'm flying, not the L-39 in particular. Never said that it was listed as such, my words where: "When I purchase a dcs module, I buy it "as is" .. at the moment I meant that on the DCS market I purchase Modules for what they are at the moment, not hoping for any future improvements. That way, whatever improvement may come along is like "a bonus" "gas light and troll?" .. those people need to look into a mirror. So, I'm an "attacker" ... yeah, right ... well for sure I will strive to get out of your way from now on, as debating with you isnt healthy. There is nothing more I can say about this, bye.2 points

The question is don't you read the patch notes? Since the beginning of 2021 (DCS 2.5.6) the L-39 has received one (1) module level bug fix on 22-2-24 Fixed FKP circle is oval. The L-39 has received 3 mission repairs, UPDATES or additions, 10-4-24 Instant action missions added Marianas, 30-12-21 Fixed training missions wrong take off direction, 11-6-21 UPDATED cloud settings in IA missions. ED is selling the L-39 in their store at up to full price. It is not listed as "AS IS" or EOL. You better believe the customer has a reasonable expectation for timely bug fixes and as they state, in their own words, in the patch notes UPDATES. Four in four years isn't a good track record. I am happy to pay for modernized graphical improvements based on new technology and enhanced capabilities not sold during EA but not functionality for features sold at launch. You personally are spoken about at great length on several non ED controlled groups. Questions have long existed about how you and several others are allowed to gas light and troll without challenge from the moderators. Your comments above chiding a user for not buying on sale and how you should only expect what is present and not what has been promised. How exactly does that hold water with EA being the standard for releases or modules being released from EA without all features present? These comments are unnecessary ad hominem attacks designed to stifle bug reporting and suppress reasonable complaints over a lack of attention to reported bugs that exist in purchases customers have made. Noticed you ducked the questions on your module in development.2 points

The following map is very rough reconstruction of the flight based on the interview, based on what was known to me so far. It is provided to get you better idea about flight, with possible engagement assumptions. I welcome any additional information you may be able to provide, including possible alternative flight paths. Map should not be cited as reference of absolute truth, since a number of assumptions were made while I tried to fit them together with all known facts: - direction and distance after first launch, - direction and distance after second launch, - precise location point where Boro turned north. Note: course 190 was take into account as well as location of Airbase Petrovac as possible direction for blue. - landing direction was assumed to be from Ribar approach. We do not know if he took instead landing over the city of Niš.2 points

The metal motor guard is an optional extra on the 2 and 3-DOF models. Seats, I think most seats will require some level of DIY to get them to fit. Flight, Racing, Heli and Universal are priced differently because of the different motors and gearboxes. Flight and Heli have the smoother (and more expensive) ones. The P models, ditto except the motors are also more powerful (for sustained commercial use, like in a gaming arcade. They can also handle more weight). For 2 and 3-DOF, the Witmotion seems popular. You need the gizmo and the cable for it. Yeah, the feature list is suspiciously light on details, would be nice to know what is improved/added besides better graphics.2 points

I got Avast, no exclusion seems available for defender. However I put an exclusion for Avast and I'll try. It is a bit strange to me because it happens just in at ground or near at it, but I'll try your suggestion, thanks!1 point

Getting the AI to not see through the airframe and terrain was a major milestone. Fog and cloud is… aspirational, let's call it.1 point

Good news! I liked this idea so much, I made one! I have a lot of stone type building edms sitting idle This idea gives them new life! I am posting this here, to stay OT, But will create a dedicated thread if I expand upon this idea. Your vote counts! To that end, I present, The Armed Egypt Structure With a Sniper on the roof! I have made no collision yet If you all like it, and it works as advertised, I most certainly will! It works best using line of site I have not tested how far his range is I do see him do kills, one shot! Credits are needed To The Admiral, whose code I used for this version. Thank you my friend! I trust you are on the mend It would be wise to place this link in the first post so all can find it without searching Threads can get busy! The OP needs to do this And speaking of, @fargo007 What you have gone and done? My thanks to you as well! Hi Stratos! Good luck, and good shooting! https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/g0bzro3ayxlp751c29zy1/Middle-Eastern-Armed-Structure-V1.0.0.zip?rlkey=q2sxtuhdeuy8lv3uyqumtfzih&st=nr7ql4r9&dl=0 If you like what you see, Please consider making a donation to the Admirals coffers Find this Donation link in his thread Thanks!1 point

I have two external monitors that act as sim box MFD's. They work perfectly except that if I push the HUD button, nothing shows up on the MFD's. The HUD is shown on the MFD on the main display screen, but nothing is echoed to the external MFD. Is it just me, or has anyone seen this before? thanks. ps. If anyone wants info on my mostly 3D-printed Harrier sim box, I might could provide. Its a work in progress of course.1 point
