Frag
I had a good laugh this morning. Browsing thru my DCS aircraft, I noticed that I am having the Mosquito. Turns out that I was barely remembering buying it during a sale and NEVER EVEN LOADED IT from the mission editor. There are few aircrafts that I bought and that I actually never used. Barely loaded them in the mission editor for a quick look. I don't mind much since I like to encourage ED in such a niche market .... but wow this is money throw out! Some of the modules I bought and never (or mostly never) flew: - F18 - Mirage - Vigen - and Mosquito (Did not even remember I had it LOL) Edited December 5, 2022 by Frag
falcon_120
Yes.... XDI have from the top of my head:UH1,Mig19F1Mig15F86C101SpitfireFw109DIn all those I must have a combined 5/6 hours of flying at best, although to be fair the F86/mig 15 i dont fly because of ED, as no DC and no contemporary units make them stale, and WWII aircraft is kind of the same history.I can see myself flying the F86/Mig15 and WWII planes a lot if a proper DC or more content become real... or at least if I find more servers that I like with those planesEnviado desde mi ELE-L29 mediante Tapatalk

shagrat
Honestly, apart from the recent MB-339 I gave every aircraft at least a little spin and test run, after purchase. The MB-339 is still to be flown, but real life is currently eating most of my time, so it's not the aircraft. I liked the free mod of the MB-339, quite well. That said, there are only so many aircraft you can fly at a time and stay somewhat "current", anyway. For me it's also about support for the developers and the option pick up any module whenever I feel like it. 2 Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
Exorcet
I fly everything that I buy, but my seat time is not evenly divided. I don't mind having less used modules, but I won't buy something if I don't intend to use it at all. I prefer fixed wing, but DCS's helicopter flight models are so good that I bought the Ka-50, UH-1, and Mi-8. It's great that DCS has such a large library but the downside is that it's becoming harder to make use of everything. I'd like to get the Apache and Hind for example, I have some fond memories of flying them in a few PS1 games, but I barely have the time to make missions for the Ka-50. Hiob
Well, I never bought a module without the intend to fly it. Sometimes it doesn't click though and due to the vast amount of alternatives I don't go back to some modules. This and the limited amount of time of course (and the limited amount of brain capacity) makes me fly, perhaps, 8-10 modules somewhat regulary (from ~25 total). sthompson
I own almost everything. Let's see if I can remember the ones I haven't flown: The Mig-19, the Mig-21, the F-16, the Mi-8, the KA-50, the Gazelle, the Huey, the Hawk, the C-101, the Yak-52, Combined Arms, the Viggen, the NS430 Navigation system in all its variants, the various German warbirds, not to mention quite a few DLC campaigns. Quite a few others where I just have a few hours, including the L-39, Harrier, Christen Eagle, the Spitfire, the P-47. I don't regret any of those purchases, but it sure would be nice if ED rewarded loyalty somehow when new modules are released. I no longer purchase everything as soon as it comes out given the backlog I mentioned above, but I might if there were a loyalty discount. How about it @BIGNEWY? I'm sure I will get to everything once I retire LOL. I'm Softball on Multiplayer. How about it Hi first of all thank you for your purchases, we appreciate the support it keeps us going. Regarding loyalty discount. We already give discount on pre-order and early access, and we have EDmiles for purchases bought on our Eshop ( Steam is less flexible here ) which can be used against future purchases. regarding the main topic, yes I have a library full of aircraft I dont fly as much as I used to, I tend to have my favourites which I use more often, some of my favourites I have been flying for over 10 years, DCS has kept me entertained for many years, and hopefully more to come. I do revisit other modules when they mood takes me, my Yak-52 is my go to relax module 2 Forum rules - DCS Crashing? WinterH
At some point, it is inevitable. We now have a lot of modules, and even a few free mods are approaching/almost are at module level. Each of them being a commitment to get decent in. But I have no problem with that, because I am interested in aircraft, and I don't mind that some of my purchases ended up being more money than I got hours out of. Because I like having the option/ability to just load them up and dabble with them a bit whenever I want. Personally, it tends to be more modern aircraft that end up gathering layers of dust the most for me, as well as the MiG-19. 1 Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V DCS-Dismounts Script
Mr_sukebe
I try to maintain at least the ability to cold start, take off, navigate and land with all the aircraft that I have, and then fly whichever takes my fancy. Raisuli
I have all the modules and most of the campaigns, and would have to look at the list to tell you which ones have never been used, or only used for seconds. Mostly because I can't remember what all of them are. It's less about 'gosh I want to fly that' and more about 'gosh I want to keep the DCS economy healthy'. My play time is limited, so I can take off and land most aircraft and totally suck in them, or I can pick one (generally the F/A-18, which is what got me into DCS when you could buy, but not fly it) and know what most the buttons do even if I still suck at it. At least I can bounce on a carrier, which is a lot of fun even if the LSOs hate me. Besides, it takes about an hour to map all the controls for each aircraft. It would be so nice if DCS had a better way to code that in a text file; I know all the controller and button IDs My simpit cost more than all the modules combined, so I can't complain about cost. I wanted one of those since I spent my time flying the arcade-like WWII sims in the 90s, and probably have more hours doing design and build work than flight time, for that matter.

I map the axis‘, the secondary flight controls (flaps, airbrakes), and the usual hotas stuff. Usually takes less than 5 minutes. From there I use the clickable cockpit, which is a) more immersive for me and b) helps me to memorize the cockpit and procedures like cold start. Occasionally I will bind some things on the fly when I feel I need them. Some Aircraft are of course more „challenging“ in that regard. Baldrick33
DCS is an enigma. I am drawn by the air combat, other more famous non combat sims leave me cold, yet I spend most my time flitting between many aircraft doing cold starts , take offs and landings. To the extent I own all the aircraft and terrains but master none. That said I have destroyed an awful lot of relatively soft targets! I am happy to support the developers although that isn’t my primary motive, I have just found a natural partner that fits my hobby desires. Coming from a corporate IT world where “tin” (hardware) is relatively cheap compared with applications DCS seems quite good value compared with the costs of some decent flight sim gear, so I don’t fret about the modules that get used the least. I use JoyPro to manage the controls for a wide range of aircraft. It is invaluable IMHO. 2 AMD 5800X3D · MSI 4080 · Asus ROG Strix B550 Gaming · HP Reverb Pro · 1Tb M.2 NVMe, 32Gb Corsair Vengence 3600MHz DDR4 · Windows 11 · Thrustmaster TPR Pedals · VIRPIL T-50CM3 Base, Alpha Prime R. Waffle 1-1
The FC3 pack. I bought it with the 50% discount for the first purchase together with the F/A-18, F-16 and F-14. I much prefer the clickable cockpits and have really only tried to fly the F-15 and A-10, the combined time of which would be less than 1 hour. Of the three, the F-16 has seen most use. Recently I'm all in on Mirage, so the F1 and 2000C get most of my airtime.

Dragon1-1
I'd say I flown all of them, but I'm SP only, so it depends on campaigns available. The Harrier, I only flew a little, though I recently bought a campaign, so it's waiting for its turn (I'm kind of waiting for RAZBAM to finish it at last). Apache and Hind are both short on SP content, besides training. I tend to focus on one aircraft, get good at it, fly the campaigns and move to the next. That way, I don't have to maintain currency in multiple different airframes at the same time. I even flew some modules I don't actually have, thanks to a free trial on Steam. I think the only ones I didn't are Mirage F1, Mosquito and the I-16. I don't care enough for the Mirage, the I-16 would need a lot of assets to work with (flew it in the other WWII sim, though) and I eventually plan to get the Mossie when content is made for it.
