  1. Thank you, I put a lot of time into going through the error log and making sure there aren't any latent errors lurking in the reeds. I also define almost all of my weapons and ammunition myself, to minimize the risk of external dependencies.

  4. If you don't like it then don't put the mouse button over the save track button, name it, save it, then navigate to the replay button, click that, open the file, and load the track. It's literally easier to not use it than it is to complain about it on a forum.

  5. The AI's ability to snipe the player out of the sky, AIMBot-style, with incredible accuracy is part of the problem. Even with manuel aimed weapons, it behaves as if it were radar assisted. Even with AKs... That's a big part of the problem. i.e The AI is superhumanly precise, even at the lowest skill level. If she fires at you, the projectile's trajectory is perfect. Only when you fly a curve or actively try to dodge, the shot misses. I had anti-aircraft shooting in my army training. Aim with Manuel, without technical support. From experience I say that even if the target flows straight, most shots miss. In a 0 stress situation without adrenaline and fear.

  7. Highly. I don't have any sophisticated metric for this (altitude gained in a spiral, or speed gained/lost in a loop), because those require a full lift/drag/thrust model to calculate. However I do have some official numbers for raw subsonic 1G climb potential. From the 1958 F104C Standard Aircraft Characteristics (declassified). At 1000m=3821 ft we get 47100ft/min = 240m/s at 19201lb which is almost full internal fuel. Now to compare some other aircraft: F-4E (with slats) from FTC-TR-72-35 -> 39112ft/s at 41185lb (57%) fuel Mig-23ML (45 or 72 wing sweep) from "Practical Aerodynamics of Mig-23ML" ->215m/s = 42300ft/s at 12100kg (28% fuel) And for even more laughs: F-14A from its 1977 Standard Aircraft Characteristics -> 42368ft/s at 53166lb (60% fuel) This gives an idea, but the fuel states used by 50s US, 70s US, and USSR are very different. To guesstimate a more fair comparison, I'll use the fact that Climb Potential = Specific Excess Power, so we can multiply by the reference weight and divide by a slightly different weight to estimate climb potential at a different fuel state. This assumes no change in excess power due to induced drag, but the actual change is very small in high speed level flight (few percent) so it is a reasonable simplification (slightly conservative for scaling down the weight of the US fighters, and slightly optimistic for scaling up the weight of Soviet fighters). After some unit conversion, here are the results for 1000m, 50% useable fuel: F104C: 265m/s F-14A: 220m/s Mig-23ML: 200m/s F-4E: 200m/s These are the highest performing tactical fighters of the mid-70s, and they are all annihilated by a ridiculous lawn dart from 1958. Adding 1000lb for an F104G doesn't change much. It's hilarious really, which is a theme for the F104 and the reason I am so excited for it.

  9. Some sort of spray-effect from tyres and the engine during take-offs and landings on runways with standing water would really push up the atmosphere and immersion: Tyre spray on a Dash 8: Water spray on an A319 - mostly due to the exhaust jet - during take-off: On a borader scale, some more humidity-related effects would be cool, like spray during reverse thrust. Note the condensation over the wings due to the high relative humidity level and the vortex created on the cowl-strakes ofthe engines: Also note the vortex at the wingtips and flap-tips - this is fairly common and would create additional immersion: Not sure if the latter effect now does consider relative humidity and vortex core pressure, or whether it's just a static effect related to some sort of aircraft-parameter (like AoA).

  10. Asset pack should come free with any ww2 modual(so plane or map) I agree, I'll buy the Corsair to support Mag3s work(even if i hound them for their lack of info) but i won't buy the F6F unless ED has done some serious PTO work. (Ship Assets, US marines, and at least news about a bigger PTO map, like Solomons or Philippines) Don't need 2 PTO planes to fly over the Marinas map.

  11. Here's my personal opinion, not ED's: if DCS tracks were useless, this sim would be dead by now. We -testers-, ED devs, and third party devs use DCS tracks on a daily basis. As an example, today I used tracks to report issues, and I used tracks to verify upcoming fixes. Tracks, tracks, tracks. To sum it up: Tracks do work, especially when it comes to reproduce an issue happening in a short time window. That's what DCS tracks were made for initially. Tracks are NOT as reliable as a video maker would want them to be. That is a problem for video makers, yet ED said many times that it was not a high priority issue from their point of view. The shorter the track, the more reliable it is.

  15. Middle East Assets Within there are most of the assets I have created for this map/area. Made over a long period of time. Some may not work because of Patches. Most should. Including, Middle East Historic Sites, Some of which have3 been added in the new map In sim, Arabic buildings, A Middle East Arabic City, Old Style; Assorted antiquities, The DCS Egyptian Mummy add on, And The DCS Middle East Characters Add on. Some of these characters may be animated. Most all are static. The Camels are, well, Camels doing camel things! There may be a new camel inside..... Also, a Easter Egg for you to discover! I do not think any collisions have been made yet. I do plan on adding them to all the buildings, (Which I plan on arming with snipers!) And the city, also will be armed with a collision. Screens ASAP. There will be more character, animated to a small degree for realism, Added when ready. A single download, OvGME ready. Although you can go to the root of the mod and select each Folder/Add-On In turn to drop into the saved games tech folder. More to come! https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/w011wqofpbmkcnq1f97yb/Middle-East-Assets-V-1.0.zip?rlkey=f4ti4zdbmod38zobvgnnhvje2&dl=0 Screens Welcome, as well as comments and suggestions. 16. I absolutely love this thread. I'm kicking around and working on the throttle quadrant and plan to make it available for everyone. I haven't quite figured out how to make the emergency wing sweep work correctly, but that's for another time. There are some things I like, some things I love, somethings I hate... but I'm open to any constructive criticism. I plan on tackling the base of the quadrant next. As an aside, I'm incredibly slow with Fusion360, so this is going to go slowly, but I want it to work right and print nicely. Honestly, this is mostly a labor of fun/love. I grew up watching the F14 being tested at the Calverton facility. Along with the e2 hawkeye, and the a6 intruder/prowler, the F14 would fly over the house I grew up in daily.. cars would line up on rte 25 along the back gate and almost everyday was an airshow... until they closed the facility in the early 90’s. Much love to the community that keeps the the memory of the Tomcat alive. Again, I love this thread and I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!

  17. COMPETITION ENTRY https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3332778/ So I lied. This is my second entry for the Competition! 42-31636 “Out House Mouse”, 323BS/91BG [OR-N] Bassingbourn, Cambridgshire, UK, 1944. Delivered on 30/11/43 she was transferred to 323BS/91BG on 12/3/44. One of the famous high scorers of the 91st with 139 mission, Out House Mouse returned to the US on 26/5/45 and sold for scrap on 30/11/45 though this didn’t happen for nearly 20 more years. She has the distinction of being the first heavy bomber attacked by an Me163. As Depicted Lets be honest here. For such a famous aircraft there is precious little to go on in the interweb and I didn’t have time to go lookin elsewhere. In the end I took a single high quality image taken after her 44th mission and based the rest on a Monogram 1/48 reissue. Wear and Tear Wear is light. At this point the aircraft is less than 3 months in service. Still she carries battles scars in the form of an overpainted and patched perforated skin which I tried to match as accuratly as possible and give life to with an amended Normal Map. The skin uses several wear layers the I created for “Swamp Fire” and a few that I’ve created just for it including: Service wear on the wings and over the saddle of the plane. Chips and scratches. Quite subtle. I have attempted to match these to photos of the real thing, especially around No2 engine and the port side nose and port horizontal stabiliser. Patches. As above, Ive tried to match the patches seen on the real thing to the skin. Patches are also given some depth through their inclusion in the custom Normal DDS. These also some Duct Tape in there too as it appears to have been used on the most obvious patch on the nose. Mud and grime around the undercarriage and wheels. Template alterations and corrections Not a full list but this includes: Editing the bright highlights intended for bare metal finishes present on the engine cowls, cheek turrets and saddle joints. Editing the baked part layers to suit the painted scheme and correcting rogue shading (on the starboard lower aileron for instance) Editing many of the general and weathering texture layers to reduce rogue elements near skin joints. Correcting the Seam layer on the wings that is combined with a general texture treatment in the stock template. This eliminates the effect that makes the starboard wing look darker in game. Created the missing identification lights under the fuselage using edited lighting elements from the template. Editing some of the pant layers (clack mainly) into components to better control representation. WARLORD64’s JSON mod. The skin is a compromise between what is standard and this mod. Spec maps are adjusted to tame the effect of the mod if used but not so much the aircraft appears completely flat in the standard game. Much of the chipping has been given a matte treatment in the Spec as I don’t like the in-game darkening effect in certain lights and am not convinced those areas would be so reflective in any case. So it really only affects larger, factory present, bare metal areas. I do recommend the mod however as it does more than just make metal. Matt tyres anyone? THANKS To everyone for the help and advice. Special thanks to Helles Belle for sharing his Hex code for the Olive Drab and to Warlord64 (Keefy) for years of supporting us skinners!

  18. How does force correlating work in this case? It works great on the A-10 2. I've played with it on the 16 but never really got it down. I just don't want to spend my time on a module that's constantly being messed with and broken in new ways. That said, the 64 and 15E are the ones I've wanted the whole time, and they're really in the same boat but I hope to a lesser degree. They are still pretty early but missing a boatload of stuff. The 16 is inexcusable. I would fly the 16 over almost every other module if it were somewhat not bugged and incomplete as it is. It's a mess and it's been almost four years since I bought it. What am I getting for my money? Something that is just broken and never fixed after four years. It's really bad but it's the truth.

  20. I'll keep an open mind. But if the supporting units are sparse and only promises that "someday" you will get a lot more, then I'll wait a year or two and get the Corsair F6F on summer sale. Since ETO is much further along, I still think it would have been better to flesh that out more and fold the WW2 Asset Pack into the purchase of WWII maps.

  22. You have 100k to throw at it? Good for you. You are correct, this is a SIM and it should be fun. But that does not mean you can just jump in and be an expert. That's what makes it a SIM. To get to the fun level, you have to put in some work. You said it yourself, it's frustrating. It is frustrating for you because you have no idea why it is doing whatever it is doing. If you don't want to put work in, it's fine, but then you can expect to get a snarky response from time to time. Believe it or not, you are not the first person that asks this exact kind of questions.

  23. Fair enough. My apologies, you are exactly right, I let my emotions regarding some non DCS <profanity> taint my response to you. I'm sorry for that. There aren't a lot of shortcuts and you seemed to be wanting one, but I get your point. Glad UncleStains suggestions and to a lesser extent mine helped. My perception was you seemed to be asking for a magic solution to a complex task that people spend years mastering. But that's no excuse either so again, sorry for the tone of my other reply.

  24. Pilots didn't get to pick and choose what they wanted to do on the deck. The deck officer decided how things were run. If you have evidence of A-4's being pulled around the deck by tractors, from parking to cat, and from landing zone to parking, I'm sure we'd all love to see it. Never too old to learn something new.

  26. I recall learning this and thinking it was impossible and I had made a huge mistake getting involved in cartoon helicopters. Here's what I did....think about it as a series of steps. As you practice the steps get smaller and it becomes a smooth curve. Practice with cruise symbology up so it's easier to reference pitch angle. I'd also recommend taking no weapons and full fuel. That's enough weight to steady twitchy movements without getting close to your out of ground effect hover limits. To slow down, first pitch back to about +5 degrees. This makes your nose go up and you start gaining altitude. Counter that by lowering the collective. Hold that +5 degree attitude with the cyclic and use the collective to get your vertical speed back to zero. Once you're stable there, pitch back a little more to +7.5 degrees. Counter your now-increasing altitude with another reduction in collective. Now it gets tricky. As your airspeed approaches the translational lift limit your vertical speed will start going negative. Now start pulling the collective back up to counter this sinking. Keep managing vertical speed with the collective while you use the cyclic to nose down back to +5 degrees. This +5 degrees is the Apache's hover attitude (it happens to be exactly the same as the Apache's attitude when sitting on the ground). Eventually you'll be sitting at zero airspeed and zero vertical speed. Now while all of this is happening, you need to balance your collective movements with pedal movements. Pull the collective, left pedal....lower the collective...right pedal. Eventually it becomes automatic and you'll find yourself moving your feet in anticipation of those collective movements. It's not easy, but with practice it's definitely possible. As virtual pilots, we don't get the feedback of feeling the horizontal and vertical acceleration. This means you really have to stay ahead and anticipate what each control movement is going to do to your attitude/altitude/heading/speed and make the necessary adjustments to the other controls to compensate.

I'd love to cover a bit of Air-to-Ground, but the capabilities vary a lot depending on the model of the Phantom in use, and the Tomcat cannot effectively reproduce the most interesting modes. I will cover this and other topics later when the DCS F-4E enters EA. I hope you have enjoyed these videos and found them useful!

  31. Human lifetime isn't infinite,(games life time even less so) the problem is exactly the time, a product should be completed within reasonable time, not always pushed back and never prioritised. Which is what is happening in DCS ww2, neither Korea og vietnam are actual projects of ED/DCS and not comparable.

  37. We really need two versions of the F-111. F-111A for the future vietnam map, and the F-111F for the gulf war style missions. That would give you the realism of matching a specific model with a period in time depending on the map, and PGM usage in the form of LGBs with the F.

  44. That's what I thought too. A few hours earlier I was on a multiplayer server, so I had logged in with a working internet connection earlier today. Then, a bit later, I was in the Mission Editor, placing a flight of P51s, and suddenly .... Desktop. It looked like it had crashed, but the popup said "Session Expired", and subsequent attempts to log in were futile. Then, a couple minutes later, I tried again, and I got the following popup (attached below). Yikes, as I bought most of those. I've had almost no trouble over the years, and it's lulled me into a false sense of security about the stuff I "buy". I like DCS a lot, and it's a primary hobby at this point. I have put a lot of time and money into it, well over a G by this point ... and it's money I consider well-spent. I'm not rich, and I avail myself of sales from time-to-time, but not once have I quibbled over the price of anything or regretted spending it. In my view they've earned every penny of it by what they've put together. What I forget, however, is how quickly it could all go away, leaving me with nothing but my cat as an audience as I wave my fist and scream "but I bought it!" Nobody is going to care. It's a historically weird time to be a consumer. Be it from Amazon, or Apple, or whomever, we buy stuff that the seller can take back from us at any time, leaving us without our money and our purchase. I mean, when you really think about it, it's not a matter of "if" it's going to happen, it's a matter of "when" it's going to happen. The guy who sold you your sofa won't take it back. Ditto for your microwave. But anything digital will, at some point, cease to exist. Chances are, when it does happen, it's going to take a whole lot of us by complete surprise. Being forced to think about it, like I was today, is a real bummer.
