  1. COMING SOON In this DCS: AH-64D video, we’ll discuss how to datalink with other AH-64Ds in a mission. This is done over the AH-64D radios and will allow you to send TSD points, tactical reports, or text messages. This is a very powerful tool to coordinate actions. Let’s first start in the Mission Editor where we can pre-configure our datalink networks. From the Helicopter Group window, the top portion remains unchanged. The bottom portion has new information from the Additional Aircraft Properties and Datalinks tabs. Along the bottom portion of the Aircraft Additional Properties tab are two new entries for DATALINK. The first is the Datalink Originator ID that distinguishes data sent between networked members. Each AH-64D in mission should have a unique Originator ID. Below that is the Ownship Callsign, and like the Originator ID, this should be unique. We’ll see these later when setting up the network. Before we discuss the Datalink tab, let’s first look at the Radio Settings tab. This lists each radio in the AH-64D and the preset channel assignments for each. As you can see, each radio can have up to 10 presets. On the Datalinks tab we have two sub-tabs: Settings and Network. On the Settings sub-tab, we have 10 Presets, and each can have a unique Unit ID and Callsign. We’ll see these later in the cockpit. The primary frequency assigned to each Preset is defined in the drop down for each. Along the right side are check boxes to determine if the Preset takes part in the datalink network. The Network sub-tab allows us to view, add, or remove AH-64Ds that will participate in a Preset’s datalink network. As you can see, I currently only have myself, Chaos 11, and my wingman, Chaos 12 assigned to Preset 1, which is for “Gunslinger” battalion. I can assign Presets 1 to 10 from the top row. If I wish to add other AH-64Ds to Preset 1, I can select Preset 1 and add them as a Group or as individual Units. Note that this datalink is different from the ones used in aircraft like the F-16 and F/A-18, and they cannot exchange data. We’ll first discuss setting up and editing the datalink through the COM page. From the left MPD, I’ll select COM and we can see the Presets 1 to 10 listed along the right and left sides of the page with our ownship information in the center that includes the callsign CS11, for Chaos 11 and the datalink originator ID of 1 as we created in the Mission Editor. If I select ORIG ID, you can see that it displays the same information at the top left and top right. If wanted to edit this, I could select either one of these options and enter new designations for my own aircraft with the keyboard unit. Back on the main COM page, if I select the first Preset, it then displays additional information regarding the Preset in the center, in this case the radio frequencies used by “Gunslinger” battalion. If wanted to edit this though, I could select PRESET EDIT and select UNIT ID and CALLSIGN and enter new designations with the keyboard unit. I could also select V/UHF, FM, or HF along the top row to edit the frequency data that the Preset will use when tuned to the corresponding radios. Selecting NET from the bottom row, I can display the aircraft assigned to this Preset’s datalink network. As you can see, this matches what we set up in the Mission Editor, Chaos, and Bootleg flights. To add Saber flight, I simply select Member Directory, and select SR11 and press ADD and the same with SR12. We can now see that all six aircraft are assigned to Preset 1, Gunslinger’s datalink network. At the top you’ll notice other options. If you select a network member and select Delete, it will remove that aircraft from the selected Preset. Selecting a network member and setting them as a Team member will allow you to send messages from that member through the COM page. If you set them as a Primary member, or PRI, you can send reports over the TSD and FCR page. Note that they are not mutually exclusive. As mentioned, the Originator ID must be unique for each AH-64D. If you need to, you can edit you own by selecting Originator ID from the bottom of the main COM page as already demonstrated, or by selecting C/S, Callsign, or SUB at the top of the NET and entering a new designation for the network member that you have boxed in the network list. NOTE 1. Due to complications stemming from our other businesses, we had to adjust datalink terms. In this case, Secure Modem Datalink (SMDL). This is all I will say on the matter. NOTE 2. As always, these videos provide a preview of an upcoming feature to assist you in understanding a new feature. Later, it is quite possible that the feature will change, and the feature functionality has changed. As much as I’d like to, I lack the time re-record these videos. NOTE 3. The next AH-64D datalink video will instruct how to transmit and receive datalink text messages, tactical reports, and points.

  4. I'd pay for another package with EQ5 or 6, as well as one of A types.

  5. F1AZ and/or EQ-5/6 would be great for DCS, hopefully aerges can continue making F1 variants and packs after our main package is done so we can get closer to the full F1 experience

  8. Also as a minor side note, I assume that real Tomcat drivers didn't rely on labels but rather knew the position and function of any switch by heart. More importantly I want to emphasize the use of zoom. On a 4K panel (I assume you use high texture settings with 4K) the labels should be ok to read (at least they are for me), but considering the triple digit FOVs that are often used by many players, it is no wonder that it can be hard to read sometimes. Just make yourself aware that a FOV between 60-80 is much more realistic and suddenly the instruments become much more readable.

  9. Hi guys, So RWR will be worked on after release of the BE and before the M. There's a texture overhaul to be released in the update after the BE. Cheers

  10. Well, not for Red Flag honestly because Sweden has participated in that exercise. I think he chose that narrative because it was familiar to him - many of the anecdotes are about being a Warthhog Driver rather than a Viggen one. That said, I am fairly certain that we will not be lacking for Viggen content when the Kola Map hits. I do not wish to make any promises since I seem to be in a slump where I can't make anything I would like but the Swedish Air Force is my home turf.

  11. You are welcome to use and modify my assets for personal use, but I don't want parts publicly distributed in other mods.

  12. Well, in general I focus on making armed assets. I have several trucks among my assets, but they are part of a weapon system. I might consider making pure trucks down the line, but it isn't a priority. Maybe, it's very much dependent on finding suitable 3d models. Yep, as above. If I find suitable 3d models, making different versions of it is pretty easy.

  13. Wow. Of course the fact that someone would take personal offense from a scripted fictional computer character isn't the actual problem here... no....

  14. Are you misunderstanding him on purpose? Because i completely get what he is saying and thats not it. While the current cockpit might be realistic when playing with high resolution etc there are many occasions where that is not the case and the end result is not that great because stuff in the cockpit is a bit challenging to read even with large screens @4k and max settings. If the player is not very familiar with the cockpit and labels and hes trying to read the labels looking for some buttons as a new pilot with avarage hardware and settings or a vr headset with avarage resolution the experience might not be that great if you have to spend too much time trying to figure out whats written on some label. And maybe some people just like to look at new fresh looking cockpits, now they can. Thats why we have options to turn on and off things we like or don't like - it's not a type rated sim, you can do whatever you enjoy doing with it and it's nobodys business if someone thinks its "correct" or not. No matter how difficult or unpleasant it is we are all still just sitting in front of a computer playing a game and enjoying our time, forcing someone to look at something they don't enjoy seems pointless. Luckily we have this mod and everyone can be happy - those who like it can use it and those who dont like it don't have to use it.

  16. One interesting, subtle feature of the AZ and CZ is the bi-conical air-intake cone, which is unique to the SAAF variants. It resulted in a better pressure-recovery at high Mach and hence better performance. F1CR with the standard inlet cone.

  26. I use the Unit List and sort it by Module to quickly find those units: but I agree that a naming convention would be nice to have, say a "WWII" prefix would be enough.

  30. Yep, my understanding of DLAA is that: - it does NOT perform any type of upscaling, so there’s no performance benefits from that side - it can be used instead of MSAA, which is how I use it in that civ sim. I’ve no idea if it eats less or more performance that MSAA, but “maybe”. For myself, I much prefer the visual result of using DLAA

  31. A potential fix has been submitted -- nobody on our team has been able to reproduce this error, but we spotted a way in which it might be able to happen. Note that it could take up to 4-6 weeks for this to become available in openbeta, keep an eye on the DCS F-14 release notes for this issue.

  32. It's more of a disclaimer, not neccessarily related to this video. For instance, he did F-16 video a while a go, things got changed in the meantime but there wasn't updated video. I'm 99% sure this is the reason for this note. You can see it in recent Viper and Hornet videos too

  34. When the F1 came out, i felt that the external model and textures weren't as good as other recently released DCS modules (i admit, that this is a high bar to clear). Since i haven't yet bought the module, this was mainly based on screenshots/youtube-videos and some users in the forums voicing similar concerns. Has there been additional art-passes in the meantime? Are there any planned for the future? When looking at screenshots now, i still feel the textures aren't perfect. They look a bit plasticky soemtimes and maybe a little bit too clean. Is it just me, or do you feel the same? Could the shaders need some tuning? Is the external art deemed to be complete at this point? Thanks!

  35. exaggerating a bit too much? ... I'm an honest user and I don't feel affected by this in the least, as I never use both DCS instances at the same time.

  36. This work is not mine, I copy paste what the dude (Maya on discord) wrote on the discord bug channel so his work attracts attention from ED. "Hi, has anyone thought that the sunrises & sunsets in DCS are a bit too purple? I'm a graphics programmer who's familiar with Eric Bruneton's (which is used in DCS) and Sebastien Hillaire's atmosphere models and I found a "bug" in their implementation which causes the sky to be too purple and developed a tool called ARPC which allows accurately calculating the atmosphere parameters. Basically both Bruneton's and Hillaire's models pick 3 primary wavelengths for red, green and blue to determine Rayleigh scattering and Ozone absorption coefficients, but this method simply doesn't have enough precision to take especially the Ozone absorption spectrum into account. ARPC on the other hand uses CIE 1931 XYZ color matching functions to take a weighted average of the coefficients for all wavelengths when calculating the coefficients for red, green and blue. This approach gets much closer the spectrally rendered path-traced reference, which has more blue-tinted sunrises / sunsets. It also calculates a few other parameters such as the scale height and ozone distribution more accurately, by using ISA instead of the constant temperature atmosphere used in Bruneton's and Hillaire's models. If anyone's from ED is interested, I can provide more technical details regarding how ARPC works. It's already open source (MIT licensed, so can be integrated to any commercial project without any royalties) and available on GitHub: https://github.com/FarukEroglu2048/ARPC Here's a quick comparison with the ARPC coefficients, I changed the coefficients in the shader code for it: Default Coefficients: ARPC Coefficients: Here's another comparison using a ShaderToy implementation of Hillaire's atmosphere model: Hillaire's Original Coefficients: ARPC Coefficients: To validate my approach with ARPC, I used a root finding algorithm which tried to find the scattering and absorption coefficients which minimized the error between the spectrally rendered reference and also converted a reference spectral light source and the transmitted light spectrum after it passes through the atmosphere into sRGB to solve for the coefficients. In both cases, the expected coefficients almost perfectly matched the coefficients calculated by my approach: Under the spectrum calculations section, the first line is Rayleigh scattering coefficients and the next line is Ozone absorption coefficients for red, green and blue, calculated using ARPC. And below them, the array shown by “x” contains the Rayleigh scattering and Ozone absorption coefficients that match the spectrally rendered reference the best, found by the root finding algorithm. You can see that they are in great agreement with the ARPC coefficients. Even without more rigorous tests like that, the results with the ARPC coefficients are visually very close to the spectrally rendered path-traced reference."

  37. Good afternoon CH! I love your work, and thoroughly enjoy watching the videos you do with the GR guys. With the Persian Gulf Map being very Iran/UAE focused, have you considered working on some of the newer Iranian indigenous systems like the 3rd Khordad? Reportedly it is the system that shot down the RQ4 a few years ago and I wanted to run a sim where a counter strike actually took place. Again, Outstanding work Toast

  38. One of the main advantages SRS still has is, that if somebody is on his laptop using lotatc, he can command the others without having dcs running on the system, that is the most vital part lacking in the builtin voip in my opinion.

  40. This idea doesn’t make sense as there is already a free trial available. The point of which is to encourage the player to buy the module, not just get an eternal free game. You’re missing the whole way in which ED stays in business, by selling content.

  43. Can someone enlighten me here please?! I was always wondering what that SRS is and why do people use it, when DCS has ingame VOIP. I tried the ingame option and it worked. I try to keep additional programs at a minimum if possible, simply because I find it annoying to take care of all of them.

  44. You are not getting the point of the previous poster. In RL there is a BVR time-line you strictly follows based on the mission. The range is not about knowing where bandits will be, but about knowing at which range you commit or abort, if you commit you probably either go to TWS or even STT for greater accuracy, but you'll have a sorted target asigned and you are just not changing scan/azimuth settings at that time, that would happen before to know how many groups or bandits you are engaging. 45. If you just need to locate the player's location I believe you just need to find the GROUP object with GROUP:FindByName() for example and then you have a GetCoordinate method. https://flightcontrol-master.github.io/MOOSE_DOCS/Documentation/Wrapper.Group.html##(GROUP).GetCoordinate I have done that to create a markers indicating the last known location of downed pilots, for CSAR missions. If you have problems, I can search the script I used. Nevertheless, I assume you have multiple clients and your problem resides in identifying what GROUP is the one you want, doesn't it?
