Please note that the DCS Autumn Sale 2025 ends on Monday the 13th of October at 15:00 GMT. Kola Development Progress The next update for DCS: Kola Map brings a range of refinements across the northern Scandinavian region. Three new locations have been introduced: Hemavan Airport, Arvidsjaur Airport, and Boden Heliport. These new airfields expand operational opportunities across Sweden and Norway. The surrounding areas of Hemavan and Arvidsjaur have been newly populated, adding life and visual depth to these northern settlements. Orbx has also implemented updates to airfield ground textures and introduced improved summer textures throughout the mountain regions. This has resulted in more natural and visually consistent terrain transitions. Several fixes were made to address community-reported issues such as updated runway markings at Poduzhemye, Kalevala, and Koshka Yavr, along with multiple vegetation and taxiway corrections. Trees obstructing taxi routes and runway approaches have been cleared, parking slot dimensions at Monchegorsk have been optimized and texture issues such as missing bridge materials have been resolved. Vector data across the eastern Russian side of the map has also been refined to improve geographical accuracy. These changes mark another step toward refining the authenticity, functionality, and visual fidelity of the Kola experience. Please note that DCS: Kola by Orbx is currently on sale with a 30% discount. Russia has started a full blown war against Finland, Norway and Sweden. You are a part of a coalition force called Polar Shield, consisting of these countries. As a Viper pilot, you have been sent to Evenes Air Base to be a part of the RNoAF 334 squadron. Defend Northern Europe against Russian aggression. Get to flight line and see what missions we have for you today. Polar Shield is a 24 mission campaign spanned over a year (march 2016 - feb 2017) in a fictional war between Russia and Northern Europe. This campaign consist of 7 main types of mission (CAP, CAS, Missile Defence, Pinpoint Strike, Canyon Run, Urgent Delivery and Sea Patrol). When you start a mission, you will get the option to pick from 4 different mission types, where CAP is always one of them, and the last three is a random mix of the last six mission types. Each mission type consists of a variety of different sub missions (which will be generated randomly), so you will never get the same mission, since enemy and allied spawns are random. Overview: Each time you start a mission there will be randomly spawn X number of Bogey Groups coming from north west all down to south east of the map with X number of planes in each group (random of 2-4). Their spawning time is also a random time between mission start and 1 hour out. Expect Su-27/33, MiG-29, MiG-31 and occasionally Su-23 and Su-34. If you pick a mission type which is NOT CAP, both the north and east CAP will be taken care of by AI, also random what planes, but it's a mix of Finish F/A-18, Norwegian F-16 and Swedish JF-17 (sorry, the only stock DCS Swedish jet is Viggen, and it will be a little too old for the rest of the field. JF-17 is somewhat the closest I could find in DCS which can resemble the JAS 39 Gripen). Anyhow, if you're doing, for instance a CAS mission, and either the AI south or north CAP goes down, you will be asked to abort your current mission and be reassigned to do CAP. AWACS Overlord will tell you on UHF CH2 if that happens. (In testing I feel this scenario can happen 1/10 of the times). If you're doing a missile defence mission, and the above scenario occurs, you will not be reassigned to CAP unless you and your wingman has taken down all incoming cruise missiles. When you pick a mission, you will get a briefing text with everything you need to know. You can view this briefing from the F10 menu anytime. Note : you can safely compress time whenever you want. Whenever something important comes up, the mission itself sets time compression back to normal. Note 2 : any mission will fail regardless of what you have achieved if the AWACS goes south Note 3 : steerpoint 1 will always be bullseye and steerpoint 2 will always be homeplate (Evenes) The 7 mission types 1. Combat Air Patrol This is your go-to A2A mission. You will be randomly sent to either EAST or NORTH. You will always fly as wingman #3. You must take your own decisions, you will not get any direct orders from wing lead. It's DCS AI, so don't expect them to be super smart. The bandit spawn odds will be multiplied by 1.8 if you pick the CAP mission, just to stir things up a bit. There will also be in total 7 friendly planes (including yourself) doing CAP, rather than the normal 4 (2 planes on each front). There's a magnitude of randomness that can happen here, so stay sharp. Apart from Urgent Delivery, CAP is also the only mission type you really need to use the tanker. The other mission types will normally not require air-air refueling as long as you fly economically The CAP mission will always be available to choose, so A2A-only pilots at least has one A2A mission to pick. 2. Close Air Support There are 12 different locations on the map where you can be sent, as well as what kind of enemy units that can spawn is also random. There can be AAA and SAMs amongst those units. The JTAC/AFAC will prioritise those, if any. Hopefully Use the in game JTAC-feature to get MGRS unit coordinates and such. The JTAC will always be on VHF CH3 3. Pinpoint Strike 25 different buildings you can be tasked to destroy. All are within Russia border, and all are most likely guarded by SA-10/S-300 (which also spawns at random places every time). Due to a bug in the Kola map at the moment, it's not possible to detect whether a building on the map is destroyed or not, so I've putted a COW on the roof of the building you're expected to destroy. You will be escorted by 4 F-16s with Harms and AMRAMS, which will try to act as more attractive targets than yourself when you fence in. AWACS can ask you to go for another more important building mid flight, so you need to pay attention to UHF CH2. 4. Sea Patrol Either you will be tasked to check out suspicious Russian wessels near one of the oil rigs/gas fields of Norway, or you will be tasked to take out a Corvette (which will fire at you if you come close enough). You will, regardless of which sub mission, be given a picture of the ship type you're about to destroy. There can be a lot of civilian wessels (random spawns) out there, and shooting at one of them will automatically fail the mission. 5. Missile Defence 5 random different cities on the west coast of Norway can be attacked. You will fly lead with one wingman. You can change the ROE of your wingman with F10 menu, but it will not act as a "real" DCS wingman. Anyway, you need to take out in total of 6 cruise missiles (Kh-65) before they hit land. They fly kinda slow (around 4-500 knots?), but extremely low. You will get the radial to intercept the missiles in the mission briefing. Don't panic/rush, you have plenty of time to take them out. 6. Canyon Run - Destruction of Enemy Air Defense One of seven different military bases has been attacked by Russian forces. You will fly as wingman with Springfield 1. Follow Springfield 1 in close formation through low level flying across fjords and mountains. Your job is to clean up the site after Springfield 1 has provided SEAD cover. 7. Urgent Delivery (non-combat unless CAP scramble) You will be tasked to pick up an important item from airport A and deliver it to airport B. Make sure you've mounted a travel pod. Fly as fast as you can and make sure to refuel/rearm fuel bags when you pick up the item. You need to deliver the goods within a time frame set to match the distance you need to travel. You need to use the blower. A lot. General tips Unless you're flying CAP or Urgent Delivery, there's absolutely no need to use the burner at all. Kola is a big map, and there are some pretty far stretches you need to fly. Use time compression and autopilot rather than the blower. Just my 2 cents. CRUS page is your friend! One last thing, just in case it isn't obvious, don't forget to put some weapons on your plane with the Rearming/refueling screen before you take off Download: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3347247/ A big thank you to @Don Rudi. I really appreciate your valuable insights during beta testing.

Hi all. Here you have an update on our projects. Work continues on all aspects: we keep advancing on coding for both the F1M, the F-104 and the radar upgrade, improving art, which includes pilot models, and progressing as well on several other improvements and features. In any case, it should be mentioned that some of these items are long term projects, not something imminent.3 points

I remember many players struggled with the Tomcat when it came out, becUse they got used to fbw jets. But once you master the F-4, and then move on to the F-14, it’s really eye opening to notice how superior the Tomcat was, and what a leap in technology it represented.2 points

It is because Viper has two radios, and you need to use one set on the same frequency as your wingman. Because, fore example, if you have a friend using walkie talkie on frequency lets say 37.000 and he wants to give you some info, but you are on 27.000 you won't be able to hear him. From your track I see you don't know how to use those radios, you are trying to press COM1 and COM1 buttons to speak on the radio as I get it? You need to use the correct keybind for the specific radio. For COM1 that's Transmit Switch - UHF(call radio menu) For COM2 that's Transmit Switch - VHF(call radio menu) So there is no need to press COM1 or 2 on the ICP, find those in the keybinds. In your specific case, Press COM2 and set that frequency to 127.00 and then call COM2 radio menu and your wingman, if he has its COM2 radio set to 127.00, will be able to hear you. Also there are lots of videos on youtube about F-16 and there is this dreaded but useful F-16C manual in the game files.2 points

I wanted to show the cause-and-effect relationships of the SPO shutdown. They are not the same as described by ED. The reason for the shutdown may not be the HPRF signal itself, but the poor synchronization with the radar. With a well-synchronized radar and SPO-15, everything should work.2 points

Great job! I would love to have someone from ED look at this post! Very convincing!!!!!2 points

Here is my thoughts about kassette 51 and shutdowning SPO . It is wrote in russian from russian thread. The textbook on SPO-15 and technical characteristics of RLPK-29 are used as a basis. The point of that post is that cassette 51 should recognizes HPRF pulses in normal mode. Here is raw translating: I decided to write my thoughts about cassette 51 and disabling the system from HPRF pulses. I'm not an expert, so please don't kick me) 1. Cassette 51, among other things, is responsible for selecting the received pulses by DURATION (not by frequency) 2. The system classifies pulses into 4 types (strobe) based on their duration 3. The MiG-29 radar has a pulse duration of 1.25-1.5 microseconds at HPRF. 4. The system must recognize and classify the HPRF pulse as a t3. Or t2 strobe. Attention, question. Why should cassette 51 disconnect the system from the effects of HPRF pulses if it recognizes HPRF normally?2 points

May I suggest the humble GTR-18 Smokey SAM, a training device simulating the visuals of a SAM launch. I would also love to see a configurable MUTES of some sort. And I would also love to see the C-160 Transall. All of these fit many of the possible scenarios in DCS. The Smokey SAM and MUTES would massively increase the immersion and realism of training against SAM systems.2 points

You make sure all the Sky Sabre units are in the same group, then set the group to alert mode red. The Sky Sabre doesn't have player controlled launch at the moment, primarily due to limitations with DCS Combined Arms. Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm currently working on updates and additions to the Chinese asset pack. No sure about a release date yet, unfortunately. Thanks! Thanks for the suggestions! Much obliged! Thanks! Thank you for the kind words! My process is described in my FAQ: https://www.currenthill.com/faq Great suggestions, thanks!2 points

this looks very cool. Quick question though: are these ruined objects Dynamic in nature, i.e. they appear after a bomb explosion? Or they are static 'theme' that'll always just be there? Or are they based on the mission editor trigger (there's some triggers for damaged scenery something)?2 points

I found myself hit by a missile in a sortie, and lost my right engine, all hydraulics power as well as control over my right wing pylons (nice to see the damage model is still a WIP, but has cool functionalities on the way!). I managed to limp home but found out when approaching the airfield that the emergency landing gear deployment handle, located under the left side of the main panel, was neither clickable or bindable. When can we hope to see it modelled? Thank you for your time1 point

The discussion about the increased emergency power is old. It started soon after the module was introduced. People have always complained about the performance of the Fw 190A and the fact that this module is being intentionally left underpowered in DCS. Thanks to the effort and hard work invested by many historically knowledgeable and respected forum members to gather the necessary evidence for the existence and use of emergency power in the Fw 190A8, ED decided in early March 2023 to revise this module accordingly. Unfortunately, nothing has happened to date, absolutely nothing. Several threads that repeatedly bring up this topic have been closed by ED. This dubious behavior leaves many WWII enthusiasts incomprehensible and very disappointed. At least, that's how it is for me.1 point

Hello hello. Major updates here. First, a van passenger seat has been installed. Junkyard, 25 bucks. Super adjustable. Will be replaced eventually with a moving seat for motion. Second, pedals installed. Using winwing with a FFB kit. They are magnet mount so repairs can be done easily. Might hard bolt it down, not sure yet. I did finally get the vprhino installed as well. 50 amp power supply is located in the foot area of the sim. Third, panels. I will have it cut out of wood by this Sunday and begun the final install of everything. Will be soft mounting the screen for the displays as the final version will be magnetic mount as well. This is due to a pair of stiffening bars behind the front panel. Can't install the screens in their housings because of those bars. Fourth, I should have all the cockpit panels done by Sunday as well. I was going to use tek, but my dad talked me into learning it and building my own. Using the dcs bios kit master-slave system instead. Anyone interested in the tek left side panel, fire panel, armement panel, happy to sell it all. Fifth, the computer rack is done and I'm currently downloading dcs onto it. Literally an army surplus server rack hard case with a 4u rig plus a server rack screen keyboard combo. It's Belgian keyboard so that's neat. Sixth and finally, I've included a shot of the paint cans I used. Highly recommend them for accurate military paint. They do have gallon and quart sizes but rattle cans are great too. Until next time.1 point

Please enlarge german autobahn in size, to be better recognised for visual navigation. Little research results: Pre 1990 german motorways usual dimensions were between 3,5m-3,75m per lane plus aditional 0,5 meters either side next to it. The Space in between opposing direction lanes was three to four meters in width. Motorways pre 1990 usually had an extra stop lane for broken down vehicles which added another 2meters minimum each side in width.1 point

Glad to hear it works. If there is an "Oxygen" message lingering on screen for 1000 seconds, it should raise suspicion that smth needs to be done there There are 3 switches: normal - normal - on. You need to check all 3. It's written down in your kneeboard cards too, all checklists are there, as well as in pdf format in the doc folder, why did I work so much on these if nobody is looking at them?1 point
